Thank you for the test. My favourite was the battery/overheating test at 8:10. I tend to take loong clips with my Hero 7 Black, which overheats, too, but using an external battery and removing the internal one seems to help. I was wondering if the over-heating was resolved in later versions, but it looks it get even worse.

For the 8, 9, and 10, using them on a mount makes them overheat less than sitting them flat on a surface like in this video test. The 7, however, overheats more easily when in its mounting frame.

Thanks so much for doing this video!! Seeing them and hearing them all back to back or split screen is a game changer. So cool. Just adding my 2 cents as a long time gopro user and content creator most of my videos are 30+ with some lasting 1:30. So anyone who says the over heating and shutting off at 20mins is fine cause no one records that much is wrong. No camera should shut off due to heat or anything else till the space on the card is full or the battery is dead. With older gopro you could hook an external battery up and record for hours....now with the 9 and 10 it would matter if you could get a bigger battery because the camera is just going to over heat and shut off. Huge problem in my opinion and will prevent me from ever buying one with these issues.

Ya, that's a game changer for me. I do lot off motovlogging in hot conditions and I suspect that cameras which are overheating in ideal room temperature wouldn't cut it in hot road conditions. I had a hero 5 and it never failed on me.

I have the Hero 9 I use for motovlogging. 3 extra batteries and 2 128GB micro SD cards. Because the GoPro is mounted on the chin of my helmet it gets plenty of ventilation. I've recorded a little over an hour before swapping the battery. I record in 4K at 30fps. I'm super happy with my GoPro.

I ve has the gopro 7 white for the last four years And it's been through some tough conditions. Its been underwater,thrown around sand,survived numerous mud runs.eventhough it's the base model and it may be rugged to some but it does a fantastic job for what I do.

Thanks for the comparison. I bought the Hero9 today. It was a tough choice between the 9 and the 8 for me but I prefer the front facing screen so I went with the 9 since I plan to grab the light mod and possibly the media mod. This way, I don’t have to bother with purchasing the screen too as the whole reason for buying a GoPro was for portability. I have a canon M50 that meets the remainder of my needs. I got a hero 7 over a year ago and it was a chore to find before they stopped stocking it. For $230, it was prolly the best bang for the buck go pro. Also at the time the 7 made the most sense in pure use cases. For one, I didn’t want the 8 because it lacked a replacement lens. If I were to use it in strenuous situations, I’d be pretty upset if I cracked it and was shit outta luck. Then it was between the 9 and 7, and for half the price, I’d rather have the tried and true design over the innovative design that saw massive issues. And now it’s really tough to get a budget quality go pro, as I said, the 8 doesn’t have a removable lens…which I think is the biggest bust for an action camera.

its tough to judge by this video just because you can change more in the settings in the 10 then the older models. you can manipulate exposure and picture profile for lowlight which is very good on the 10 but i do agree with all the same settings it seems the 7/8 is better with stock settings.

Thanks for the video! I was checking this for the audio comparison, and I have to agree with you on the 10 being better than the 9 at filtering the audio, yet losing some of the low end of the voice, hence some clarity is lost and it sounds a bit crispier (tested with headphones). I'd love to see how they perform in a live setting such as a gig to see if it's worth upgrading from 7 to 10 (or maybe 9 as it might have a better quality overall!)

This was a great great review, short, and with very nice info. For the overheating, I have 3 hero 10 camera's and never had overheating, even in 4K, I tested it myself and recorded for 1 hour with no problem at all.

Thanks for this comparison. With launch of the 10, I sold my 7 to buy a 8. The big benefit for me, with the 8, the frame is no longer needed. I use the GoPro mostly on a Motorcycle and now it is so much easier to change the battery.

I use a gopro 7 on a tripod to record band shows. Each set is about an hour or so long so none of the newer gopro's are an option for me due to the overheating. The only other option would be to buy a usb powered clip on fan to blow onto the camera during the show but that's kinda lame to have to do something like that. The Insta360 one R 4K cam is a possible alternative as it doesn't really have overheating problems.

Hi, I've never owned or even used a Go Pro camera, but based on all the reviews I've seen, I'm inclined to agree with you. The GP7 colors look more natural, whereas the others appear contaminated with too much green and yellow. It's a white balance problem. If one were to purchase a used GP7, what are the risks? I know that digital camera shutter mechanisms and sensors have a shelf life, but you can replace those parts. Can the same be said of Go Pro cameras? Can you send a used camera back to the manufacturer for a rebuild? How long can you expect a GP7 to produce quality results? Thanks for any help you can provide. While the newer versions have their benefits, for the life of me, I don't see enough of a difference to justify an additional $300-350.

Great Video! Right now I have the Hero 7 I Like it, but... sometimes it freezes up? It does not turn on when I want it to, so I remove the battery. Other than that happening at the start of the Trail, which is A pain sometimes. I record in 2K at 60fps, in post Editing I turn it up to 4K. I do not use the camera's feature for slow motion, I do that as well in Post Editing. Stabilization, I'm Happy with the 7's Stabilization, as I do not have it turned on, the camera is mounted to the Helmet, and my head is the Stabilization. Horizon, I like the fact with the 7 that when we spillout, and flip over, that the image spins as well. Low light, I do not like, sometimes we ride at night, or early morning, and it does not do so well. Battery, I get a little over a hour of video making with a full battery, which is also the same for the scan disc card. I have never had them stop from over heating, that might be do to them being mounted on the helmet getting full air around them. I am looking to get some more gopros, and am looking at the gopro 11. I see that you made another video on the 11 thru 8, I will watch that next.

Unless GoPro significantly increase the sensor size, you won’t see a big difference from 7 even to 10. However, you need to pay extra attention on settings of different model. And choose the correct format when uploading, otherwise footage quality will drop a lot.

I have both the 8 & the 10. I end up using the 8 the most... just because. If I am going to be in the video, I use the 10 for the front screen which is a VERY nice improvement. But, 4k is 4k, ya know what I mean?

the hero 9 is my favorite gopro. the screen on the front is useful, the stabilization is amazing, i love the 5k footage and the colors look very saturated. the 10 is almost the same thing.

My hero 10 has horrible footage since I got it. Tried so many settings. Jittery. Looks like 640 x 480. Objects jump around, trees appear and disappear. Etc. Slightest shadow makes the footage dark. Hunts for propper lighting, etc. Do I need to return it?
