Yes and no. It can be considered aeroponics because the roots are not submerged in water.
@DaveSmith-cp5kj Жыл бұрын
@@LivingTowers This is called a drip hydroponic system, it is not aeroponics. Actual aeroponics uses an aerosol with the entire concept being that the fine particles absorb nearly instantly in the roots to allow for minimal standing water to resist algae formation and root rot, but maximum oxygen exposure to encourage root development over green growth. I don't remember the exact particle size but aeroponics is easily recognizable as it forms a cloud rather than a typical irrigation spray.

@@katherineprevost2283 Great question! You will have two tanks. One with nutrient mix A and the other with B. These are connected to a dosertron which doses the minerals with water and fills the gravity tank. The gravity tank is a large barrel that contains your mixed nutrients and is a little higher than your Tower Garden reservoirs. Each tower has a float and when the float goes down the solution from the gravity tank fills the reservoir. 🙂

The microorganism that added into soil is preferly to increase the fertility of the soil, especially for fixing many nutrients and to fix the structure of the soil. But when u use aeroponic it's not mecessary to put these microorganisms, because the nutrient will fully provided by the fertilizer.

@LivingTowers Жыл бұрын
The crops need UV light, so the Tower needs to be in full sun or you will need to use grow lights. Bugs can and do happen inside. Unless the Tower is growing in a completely controlled environment, bugs are always a possibility. It's harder for natural predators to get inside so if you do end up with bugs inside it can often be tougher to deal with. My biggest tip, whether growing inside or outside, is to check your Tower daily. Just a quick, 15-second once-over. It's much easier to deal with bugs before they multiply.

@LivingTowers Жыл бұрын
The pumps on the residential Towers are pre set. This is a result of years of testing and seeing what works best in all environments. This is the same timing Tower Farms have been using all across the US for around 15 years. :-) Plants take up what they need. Watering more often doesn't make them grow any faster, just like adding more nutrients doesn't either. The Tower is made from a USDA-approved, virgin ABS plastic that is opaque and double UV stabilized, protecting it from the damaging rays of the sun.

How long can the plants survive with a power failure? Have you considered a solar / battery option?
@LivingTowers Жыл бұрын
It's going to depend on the temperature, wind, size of the plant, and whether the tower is inside or outside. When we had a hurricane approaching a few years ago, I brought my Tower inside and didn't even plug it in. I took it back outside the next day, plugged it in and everything was fine. Plants will start to wilt after around 30 minutes or so (depending on temperature, wind, size etc), but bounce back as long as not too much time has passed. This is around 6 hours, but again it depends on the factors I've already mentioned. You can absolutely use solar. We've looked into it but a solar system that powers just the Tower would cost around the same price as the Tower itself, so many don't bother with that. WE often go to shows and fairs and use a deep-cycle marine battery with an invertor to power the Towers for the weekend.

I went back to using soil after spending hundreds of dollars and countless hours. Main disadvantage with hydroponics or aeroponics is labor intensive and loss of nutrients from drips. With water any loss is neglible, but when drips contains precious and expensive chemicals, it becomes a concern. You need to constantly test and mix chemicals. It works for full time production, but as a homeowner, soil and water is less demanding.
