Well, well, well, don't mind them bashers sir, you showed them they were wrong with a big QSL. You see sir, I am just new on HF at the right time with the 10 meter band open and have been researching for different types of antenna I could build and you sure did made my day. I can't afford a real hf radio yet so for now I'm just using an HR2510 set only at 20 watts with an aluminum tube horizontal dipole antenna at 19 feet above ground but am sure proud to make contacts in Europe. My farthest was 10,735km to England from where I'm at here in the Philippines. Now I know why HAM is fun. Thank you for sharing your ideas sir. DW1-QEW saying 73s.....

What you're doing is the exact spirit of Ham... learn, dream, innovate, create! I'm excited to try and make this one. Being a another G90 guy, I found this one very inspirational. Nice going with this antenna, amazing DX. It was interesting to hear how strong you sounded in Colorado on that ham's live stream. I think maybe you could have an online Zoom discussion with Sir Callum about your results with this and see if he'd be interested in trying it himself. I would definitely forward him this video. Experimentation is the lifeblood of ham radio, QRZ and Facebook not so much.

Walt, thanks for posting and demonstrating your antenna. Seems to have fantastic performance! In the mid-70's just before I got my license, my friend who wrote articles about antennas wanted to try out the new HF xcvr my dad bought me (Hallicrafters SR-150). Not having an antenna put up yet, we found a huge balled up mess of 300 ohm TV twin lead that a local TV repair shop had thrown out, about 150' long. We strung it from the basement window thru tree branches and terminated it down in a swamp. We were in Minnesota, you know, land of 10,000 swamps ;-) anyway, we fired it up and he was able to contact europe, Ukraine, to be exact, running about 100 watts with this stupid, barely above ground twin lead that was our so-called antenna. I suppose stranger things have happened, just can't think of any. Still have the SR-150 and continues to work great. Kevin, AI4HZ

Thank you! I just reconfigured a 134' 80m inverted "L" efhw into a 40m/15/m vertical Delta Loop using the same method. It kicks some serious butt on 15 meter qrp. I didn't worry about equal dimensions. The vertical member goes up about 30 feet, starting 6' above ground , and the other two legs are app 52 feet long. Don't tell the nay sayers, but it worked ok on 30, 20, 17, and 10 too ;-)

Walt, you are definitely on to something. I had a 40m delta loop fed 1/4 wave from the apex, with the apex up. According to ON4UN's Low-Band DXing book this acts like two 1/4 wave verticals in phase with the horizontal portion acting as a radial for both. The feedpoint impedance should be around 100 Ohms, so a 2:1 balun or 1/4 wave length of 75 Ohm coax would convert it nicely to 50 Ohms. You would just need to make your vertical portion of the loop slope instead of running up along the support mast. The two lower corners of the delta could tie off to ground stakes or any available attachment point. The downside is that you need to move both lower lines to "rotate" the antenna. BTW, my delta loop worked fantastic.

It´s just 30 degrees away from a classic delta loop with its lower side parallel to earth and fed 1/4 wave from top corner for vertical polarization. This set-up provides the lowest take-off angle. That´s why your antenna is perfoming so well. And they are better RX antennas than verticals. By the way, that harbour seems to be a great location for DXing. 73 de LU3HIP.

Models are "somewhat accurate". LoL. You are so diplomatic. You are repeatedly demonstrating that following through on an idea is the definitive way to differentiate what is real from what is nonsense. Please factor gravitation pull on the wire to get rid of that sag... Maybe a taller secondary pole. But who knows, maybe that slight sag is part of the magic of your brilliant antenna idea. What a fun hobby this is!

Walt, Hello from South Korea! Please don't stop sharing your ideas with us just because of a few haters. Your design looks great! I just built a delta loop and it works well. I used a 4:1 balun connected to the lower right corner about a foot up. It works good, but has high SWR on some of the bands. I plan on putting in about 50 feet of 450 ohm ladder line to see if that will help. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING! PLEASE DON'T STOP! I hope to work you on the air someday! That's how you do it...nice work. Loops are awesome. Can't find more gain from a single piece of wire than by building a loop. One that I've gotten a lot of use from is a rectangular...2:1 proportion..with feedpoint in the middle of the base...works out just about perfect 50 ohms. I'm curious as to whether you're using insulated hookup wire or bare copper. Need a new antenna project and this looks like it could be the one to get me back on 10m from my apartment with antenna out on the fire escape. Already have fiberglass poles.

Don't let the criticism bother you, the average ham nowadays is not quite the expert they think they are. Remember they give you the answers to the amateur exams now. When I took my license we had no idea what the questions were going to be. There was plenty of math and no calculators. More important, we learn by experimenting which is kind of the idea behind Amateur Radio so keep the ideas coming.

@@COASTALWAVESWIRES Walt I had the chance to construct and test your rendition of a 10m Delta Loop oriented NE / SW. I first tried placing the LG 4:1 Unun 1/4 wave length down from the top of the pole. Then after some testing found the best performance of the Unun at the lower pole corner worked best. I am located just outside Rochester, NY. In my final testing late afternoon on FT8 saw many NV, NM and CO stations that I normally see only a few with my 10M Jpole up 45'. Then this morning did additional testing and with the NE orientation and on average I saw an increase in EU stations receiving me by +2-3db. Called FT8 CQ and had more consistent call backs than before on the JPole or even a EFHW (on first CQ had two Russian stations calling). I will do additional testing over next several days but am seeing a definite pickup of contacts with stronger signal reports both to and from. (Just plug in my call sign on PSK Reporter). This is not a scientific evaluation... will compare antennas with WSPR in the next several days. All for now Don - KW2AIR

Nice Walt delta loops work good and they don't have to be super high with two poles you can go from one to the other and feed the delta at the bottom upside down triangle and you can still rotate the antenna. Hmmmm they watch your videos in BRASIL 😆........73's

Sorry I missed you! Great results. I like that you can rotate it. I may have to build one to test or maybe use next year in the Ten meter contest. Would like to put my analyzer right at the antenna or on a 1/2 wave line to see what impedance you have. I sure expected you to need a 2:1 transformer. I would like to try it on some 10 meter beacons and rotate it around to plot the pattern. I think the skip was just too long for Florida and New England. I would expect if the band was open they would have just been weak off the side. Good job!

Thanks! I was limited in direction with where I was setup. I plan on putting this up on the beach where I can rotate it a complete 360 degrees and experiment so more. Great idea to try it on some beacons!

I love using the beacons! Think I posted some KZbin videos doing that with my dipoles. If conditions are stable it really shows off the patterns when I switch antennas.

Search for Cebik horizontal slot loop, very similar except it is rectangular but also fed from the side, which makes it vertically polarized. I think that is what is happening with yours as well. Also, being vertically polarized reduces distance to ground influence, unlike a horizontally polarized dipole for instance.

Well that worked rather well!! Curious as to the choice of a 4:1 UNUN in spite of it's good on-air performance. Have seen them with a 4:1 balun and more often a 2:1 matching section of 72 ohm coax as I did for a 6M delta loop. Fun to watch Walt - well done.

I have a Delta Loop still to try out, I think its 3.3m as a triangle with 3 sides, or 2.7m(ish) for 4 sides. I noticed your unun wasn't as 1 of the corner points, that's noted down. Still a little cold to be playing around with my antennas 🏧 but it is on the 'To Do' list. Great video again Walt, looking forward to the next. 73's

I also wonder if that could be fed with ladderline...balanced line...back to a 1:1 balun and into a tuner. Might be quieter. I have lots of issues with noise and used this approach to build a Slim Jim vertical for 10m a few years ago and it was noticeably quieter that other verticals. That's also one of the best verticals to build and use.

Nice one! When I saw your post on Facebook I checked if Celso was on the radio and asked him to look for you. Celso antennas are also home made and perform great , from verticals to cubical quads. The man builds them all. I also asked someone in Japan but it was too late there. What about a 10 meters moxon next? Ve3dal documented his build pretty well and on 10 meters it’s not too big of an antenna. 73

Listen to your heart. The point of being an amateur is experimentation. how the hell did we get the g5rv and the moxons. you should try a vertical moxon near water that would be great. by the way you only need to look at the commercially built Optibeam which was basically multi moxons in one antenna. Keep up the good work.

To be honest, I think you SHOULD discuss your plans online. I live in an apartment(back alley ground level). Can't be done, right? pft. tell that to my contact from Vancouver to Spain, or the dozens of contacts I've made on 20m on a folded long wire tossed in the trees. Playing around and experimenting IS the fun of it. I really like this antenna Idea. Now I'm thinking how I can build one off the balcony ;) De VE7PPM
