The VRS F/A-18E Super Hornet, or "Superbug", is the first true 3-axis fly-by-wire combat aircraft designed for Microsoft Flight Simulator. The flight model is not "fly-by-wire-like", it's a dynamic, fully control-law-dependent proportional control system driving a single (ordinance independent) neutrally-statically-stable base flight model. The FBW system extends to 100% custom autopilot functions.
Crafted by a small, dedicated team of developers who also happen to be engineers in real life, the VRS F/A-18E seeks to provide what we believe is by far the most comprehensive overall simulation of ANY combat aircraft ever created for the Flight Simulator franchise. VRS has created a truly remarkable and faithful reproduction of the U.S. Navy's newest strike fighter.
Systems ranging from tactical (functioning weapons and sensors) to dedicated, custom fuel, hydraulic and ECS simulation designed [strictly] based on the U.S. Navy's NATOPS flight manuals for this aircraft. Everything from the working and accurate radar, to the early warning and navigation systems are meticulously recreated in extreme detail and fidelity.
Extensively researched visuals include a fully functional (and we mean fully functional and flyable) Virtual Cockpit including 90% 3D switches, knobs, buttons, and even individual bolts. True HUD collimation provides accurate velocity vector/flight path and targeting indication under all flight conditions. Designed with TrackIR users in mind, you'll find no equal in terms of HUD performance and accuracy. An incredible set of high resolution 2D panels (not because you need them, but because we believe in going the extra mile), and a dozen sub-panels round out the "office" of the F/A-18E. Our "intelligent" highly optimized 3D external model responds to preferences, drawing only the weapons you select for load-out with the Aircraft Configuration Manager. Thousands of weapons combinations are possible, yet only one 3D model is required.
In addition, all weight, drag and asymmetry is accounted for no matter what you load on the aircraft. When a weapon is released, it is of course fully animated, but most importantly the weight, drag, and lateral moments are accounted for accurately. Drop or fire a weapon and watch the flight dynamics change. This is MUCH more than a pretty plane; the VRS F/A-18 is serious aircraft simulation in every respect.

Yeah, I can't wait for the FSX version. The Aerosoft F-16 however has it's place, and for me a special place in my heart. I worked on the SOBs. This plane however is IMO the PMDG of modern combat simulations for FS.

The carrier is actually Alpha Simulation's Enterprise (no need to thank us for the sales, Phil), however there are any number of GREAT freeware carriers, including one of our favorites the HMNZS Waikato available from Avsim's flile libraries. The VRS Superhornet has built-in catapult and trapping functions, so all you need is the carrier.

This addon allows you to tweak how air refueling is done. You can make it a wide path, or narrow it down directly in the cone itself.

It does not come with any missions, nor a carrier, but it does have the ability to drop bombs, fire missiles, etc... to a certain extent. I can personally say I am EXTREMELY happy with this package and it breaks a lot of barriers in the FS world.

You need to select A/A or A/G mode on the left of the front panel, arm it with the switch underneath and select the store on the left CDI. Make sure you cage it on the left CDI as well.

This is an amazing aircraft, as the video is realistic, I hate watching videos with no cinematic quality. But i would say ya nailed it on the head on that landing, perfect AoA! Im getting this on Monday, cant wait to throw that APU on, and then the fun begins!

This is FS9, and you can purchase it at most retailers still like Fred Meyer or Walmart, etc. This particular sim is an addon for FS9, or Flight Simulator 9, not to be confused with Flight Simulator X.

There's some ambiguity with regard to when the waterline symbol is actually displayed. In some texts it's "any time the gear are down", and in others it's "whenever AoA is HUD limited, invalid, or caged". Certainly when the HUD is caged, the pitch ladder is no longer referenced to the velocity vector, but the waterline. Therefore if the pitch ladder is referenced to the waterline, one must also assume that the waterline is present, thus azimuth and elevation must be caged to it as well. Conti...

Weston Hall Indeed. I made this video for the original FS9 product, way before the FSX version was available, and long before TacPack was mentioned. Either way, it suited the development at the time. It's an old video for sure, but at the time, nothing was out there like this, and Jon needed the word to get out. :)

The ILS needles are caged to the velocity vector ONLY when the HUD is uncaged, and the waterline when caged. The HUD symbology is off because the approach was off, not the HUD:)

Public relations. There are some VERY important key commands you need to learn in the manuals unfortunately. You can however program flares on the MFD on the ECM page. You can eject if the seat is armed and you pull the lever between your legs.

Also recent updates of the Mig are starting to close the capability gap on the avionics front. So the advantage of the Hornet on that is slowly melting away. Additionally the hornet looses a good deal of that roll rate at slow speed when the flaps are out. Though the F/A-18 still has one major advantage over the Mig, it's pilots are usually better trained and do not face as restrictive Rules of engagement as their russian-trained mig counterparts do.

I have no control over the A-6s and F-14s on the deck. That is beyond the scope of this product. What was used was the Alphasim Enterprise, probably the best carrier to date in FS9. As there is nothing necessarily newer or that looks as good, this was the only option. Lets just assume they are being "phased" in. If you notice however, the skin of the F/A-18 is indeed assigned to this ship. It is not necessarily completely unrealistic.

I was talking about actually well modeled aircraft with detailed cockpits and simulations. DCS has a good future ahead of itself, with many new aircraft to come. Yes, Falcon BMS is a beautiful sim, but DCS is currently ahead of BMS.

I'm not sure about the ACM. A question better left to the forum. It should be timed accurately however. It has to give the pilot enough time to prepare for the ejection, sitting correctly and placing his hands, etc.

I do agree, but its not out for FSX. I have it for FS9 and I love it. I think its worth all the money ($44.95) that I spent on it. This is a truly unique aircraft, and nothing else comes close.

What do you mean FSX Acceleration? This product will be made for FSX with the Acceleration addon package here soon, if that is what you mean. Simply put however, and from my personal point, there is simply no other advanced addon for FS that matches the sophistication of a modern military jet as this program has, INCLUDING the default FSX Accel Hornet. @ThaFunkster100 the F/A-18E has one of the higher angle of attack capabilities. With that said, the Rhino was never made for knife fighting. It's best asset is it's BVR. Its radar can even determine the type of plane it is encountering simply by the blades on the engines. If an F/A-18E finds itself in a knife fight, it can hold it's own, but generally speaking something went horribly wrong. Also remember, this is a promotional video FOR the F/A-18 Superbug, what do you expect?

Yeah F14 was a wicked plane, super costly to maintain though...still a shame they retired it. I just finished reading up on how an F18G (growler) shot down an F-22 in a mock dog fight which is actually pretty damn impressive. Thoughts on the F35? I know it's pretty limited to this point as it what it's capable of, but curious to know how you feel about it.

@Joe2481000 The F35 and F22 are multi-role fighters, designed for stealth, ground attack, and dogfighting as well. What do you think the thrust vectoring on the F22 is for?? Hell, anything with thrust vectoring is a thousand times more maneuverable than anything without. And besides, both planes are made to engage targets before theyre picked up, thus eliminating the need for a dogfight.
