Totally agree PTN is no 1 and like yourself its my go to fly on the point and a snipe and purple or partridge and orange on a dropper, deadly combination on free stone dales rivers. The PTN was first fly taught to tie and been tying them for over 50 years

Hi George, sorry to hear that you've had to suspend operations, I was really enjoying the interview sessions. Hopefully, it won't be too long before they return. This video on nymph patterns says it all really.........the simplest are more than often the best. Thank you

Have to agree George... The pheasant tail nymph and dry flies are brilliant flies, along with the caddis 👍.. BTW, you tied me a red and yellw twin wire nymph that got me a lot of trout..

A great set of nymphs there George, very similar to my own traditional take on flies. I've tied up a few of yours, but sadly - thanks to covid - i haven't tried them yet. Let's hope next year is very different ... Take care - Shaun

Great selection for your top five George. I'm surprised that there wasn't a shrimp pattern among it. Maybe they're more biased towards Grayling who absolutely love them. A mate of mine and l took over 100 Grayling with Ben Bangams Disco Shrimp pattern a couple of years back casting into the "beast from the east" on the Test with the snow blowing parallel to the water into our faces. I know we could have taken more but eventually the cold got to us! Are there any Grayling in your neck of the woods? Cheers!
@springerspanielful2 жыл бұрын
No Andy,there are no grayling in Ireland,and ye're brave lads to stay fishing in that sort of weather,bbbrrrrrr..
@andysfishingandflytyingcha23102 жыл бұрын
That was a very special "red letter day". The action was so good that l didn't feel the cold until the late afternoon then it got really cold really quickly. 'Cos we were wading in a chalk stream the water wasn't temp wasn't that bad. Just the tips of the fingers though 🌬❄🌨 It's so unusual for two guys to find two shoals so close together as we did that day. The cold weather of the preceding days had caused the Grayling to shoal so it did us a favour.

Pheasant is good and I've been nymphing for years but I came up during that time 4 nymphs that out work almost all flies and 2 that would put the pheasant to shame
@josephronan50493 жыл бұрын
What nymps would you use in march start of the season
@springerspanielful3 жыл бұрын
Pheasant tail is always a winner early season,make them heavy to go deep.

Everyone seems to have different materials in the same nymph pattern I'm new to tying nymphs suppose it's all down to its profile and movement in the water,

No/5 how difficult is it to cast?
@springerspanielful3 жыл бұрын
It's more of a lob technique than a cast,too heavy for conventional casting but it pays to learn the lob.
@josephronan50493 жыл бұрын
Good man George PTN give any nymph or fly a run as best ever older type still works fine👌
