John I love that mill and to watch an old log turn into a beautiful mantle is just fun to watch. Love the way you collect the sawdust! As subscribers we need to tell a friend about this channel, all of John’s videos are first class. ♥️👍👍👍

Evening John and Beth. There was a treasure inside that old log. It will make a beautiful mantle for your heritage home. Beth has a good eye for the grain.

Thanks so much!!! I continue to be fascinated by the beauty inside these ugly old logs. Stay tuned for a video of the finished product!

Great very much enjoyed watching. Wish I had some oak to cut, just non where I live. Have the same mill you have or at least close. It's a Woodland mill.

Very nice. Ya, sorry I’m not brand loyal, so no favourites here, they all work, and they all break down. 🤭 That’s going to make a great mantel. Can’t wait to see the fireplace. Always loved old open fireplaces. Could you continue with the mantel piece, cut off what you need and maybe sell the other one. ? Just a thought. Have a great weekend team. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋

Noel! You know me all too well! Trust me, I've already got plans to salvage some good lumber out of the other half of that beam!

Looks great, can't wait to see the finished project. Sometimes the toughest client, is yourself!, at least for me. Id consider making some 2x boards for any outdoor projects, even if they aren’t very long, it sure is nice to avoid the expense of treated lumber for a small project. Be blessed.

Thank you so much, Brett!! I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. You are spot on regarding the price of lumber. I know I'm a frugal Yankee, and I'm grateful for it!!!

Good evening John, this was a great video. I really enjoyed watching you turn the log into a beautiful piece of lumber. It is going to be a gorgeous mantelpiece. And it is always great to have a satisfied, happy customer. Husqvarna vs Sthil that's a tough one. We have a lot of Sthil products and we love them, but we have had the Husqvarna Rancher chainsaw for many years. I am tough on it. It even went for a swim in the brook, but still runs like new. So I am thinking my hearts with Husqvarna. Have a great weekend, Ben 👋😎👍🍻

That's funny. My BIL has an ms291 that's taken a few trips to the bottom of the creek that flows thru his place, still running, after a bit of work though. I prefer the huskys for handling, but run the smaller stihls a lot. I have quite a few of both, I really like saws, both have their gems, and junk.

@brettblack7049 Our Sthil stuff is battery operated garden tools. My experience with various chainsaws is limited. I started out with a Jonsered chainsaw but I couldn't get parts for it so I bought the Husqvarna 455 Rancher and it has been our chainsaw for many years. Have a great weekend, Ben

@@whenworkisplayprobably don't want to drop those in the water 😅. The ms290/291's and the 455 huskys have cut so much firewood its not funny. Hand me a saw with good anti-vibe, side tensioner, sharp chain, full tanks, and we'll get some wood cut. Have a great weekend too sir.

Ben!!! Thanks so much. I was only kidding about the brand loyalty, as I guess I am loyal to all of them😂😂😂. As I commented to another subscriber, I believe the key to success is the chain.

Beautiful work and the figure of the wood is spectacular Mr. John. As to the "heated brand loyal discussions", one of your character traits was to avoid such things in other places. I suppose you can do it at home, however...excellent job sir...

Brian! I know that you are of the same mindset as me... The chain is the key to success regardless of brand.

I agree to many people waste good wood for firewood instead of making something that will last a lifetime 🪵👍

@donnywalker4691 One of my original plans in obtaining the mill was to salvage these logs and sell them as usable lumber. I just have a hard time letting go of the pretty stuff inside!
