Good morning John. It's nice to keep busy. There's always a bunch of things that need to be done before the things we like to do. You accomplished a good days work in the heat. Pretty cool looking catbird. Nasty sting you got there. Lots of antihistamines to get the swelling down. I am always worried about getting stung. I have a couple epipens since I am extremely allergic to wasps, hornets and bees. Take care!

Endless work, thats funny. When the storm hit us it knocked down a larger black locust(also about 75' tall), it smashed our chicken run, which was quite overbuilt and will be quite a bit of work to fix. A buddy stopped by and helped get the top off it, he asked me if I was now gonna move into the city 😂, he was totally joking. Swung by a neighbors and diced up a mulberry out of their driveway, then on the way back to the house removed an elm off another neighbors woodshed. Yep, Endless work. Be blessed.

Good evening John. That was a great idea to do an experiment of curiosity. There is always so much to learn by trying things and seeing the results firsthand. Excellent point regarding the throttle speed and using a tachometer to check and or set it. I use a tachometer similar to the one you have to tune my chainsaws and other small engines. Having an engine set to the correct idling and max throttle speeds is definitely going to give the best performance. In addition, it protects the engine from damage. Thanks for sharing and hopefully some cooler weather will come.

Great Video John. I sure like saw milling videos. Is your washer fluid hitting the blade, or is it not suppose to ? Have a great day.
@thebradleysoncatbirdhill6849Ай бұрын
Hey Noel!!!! The outlet for the fluid does deliver the liquid more to the rear of the blade. When the blade enters the log, it seems to puddle on the middle, but one of the design shortcomings of the mill is a lack of adjustability of that nozzle. My plan is to cut a short piece of tubing to put on the nozzle and direct to the center more consistently. You do have an eye for detail!!!

And running close second . . . nothing like the satisfaction of a square cant. Nicely done!

Thank, Howard! Those red cedar logs have been down for 3 years (lying on skids). That is a testament to the longevity of that species. I feel like Elmer Fudd regarding those squirrels!
@JelenOutDoorsАй бұрын
Nice to see that you're back to milling John. That's unfortunate that the squirrels damaged the sawmill cover. The deer sure like Eastern White cedar so I was surprised when you said that they don't like the Western Red cedar. Mind you they do smell very different. Your mill stayed nice and level after the winter. That's the result of the effort that you put into the base that it sits on. You got some really nice boards along with the 6x6. Happy milling!

I have the same ZT 52 HD. About 80 hours and had to replace the deck belt (rear PTO/blade drive) because it rolled/burned and delaminated. ( I thought I caught a wire or something in the blades) Had vibration and a "slapping" noise and looked down and saw the belt was oscillating/flapping. Shut it down, lifted the plate over the deck and saw the belt was twisted, stretched (loose) and chunks were missing. I suspect I may have had some debris caught between pully and belt (I have some bamboo that I have tried to cut) or that I have engaged/disengaged the PTO at other than full speed without being aware of doing so. I am pretty certain it was my ignorance/negligence, and after replacing the belt, I will be making certain I am at full throttle when I engage/disengage, and I do not attempt to cut anything but grass. (the bamboo will meet the tip of my shovel...) $100 a pop, for a belt is more than I want to pay per 100 hours...
