I had a Pontiac Dustbuster with the Buick 3800 in it. That thing would start up nearly instantly no matter what. It was -38 here (anchorage) and I figured there was no way in hell it was gonna fire after sitting outside overnight with no block heater or anything. Sure enough when I dug it out, jumped in and to my surprise it fired off right away and was idling at 1100 to warm up in no time. Ended up bringing a park avenue ultra with that magnificent supercharged v6 up from the states when the van rotted out.

Why do people immediately turn on the heat/defrost after starting the vehicle in extreme cold? Where do they think heat comes from? The engine has to be warm to provide heat to the interior of the vehicle and by running the heater and defroster with an ice-cold engine it's going to take significantly longer for the vehicle to warm up and provide heat for the interior of the vehicle!

If you turn heat air flow to the cold glass it could crack

Because quite a few cars have electric heating for the start. BMW for example have that since 10 years now

​@asdfka1 glass in vehicle windshields is tempered. If what you are saying is true then vehicle that had been sitting in the Sun for a while the windshield would crack if was hit by raindrops or water from a sprinkler

Unfortunately the video author put it already. I dislike music on such videos too, I see no point putting it on. But it was the coldest honest 3.8 V6 startup video I ever found so I used it anyway.
