Honestly, the iron reapers and monastics are still kinda bad, and that's all because of their speed, modao doesn't have the same problem because they are a pike unit. I think iron reapers were op not because they were "good" but because the other units were not as good, in the "early" seasons they had good damage and good defense, so their awful speed wasn't a problem, now their damage is only "average" with many t4 being able to at least match if not surpass then, their defense is still good but feel like nothing due to how great the damage output of new and updated unit are, their slow speed makes them sitting ducks, being out maneuvered and kited, tiger step is good for the occasional cc recovery but otherwise still outclassed, 1 hero baits tiger step recovery and herds them, their unit wipes the reapers from behind, monastics are in a similar situation just worse as all they can do is charge, they can't even "simply" flank pikes as the majority if not all of them can turn around now, they don't have the "acceleration" to charge point blank, the speed to timely cover the distance before the pikes start to turn, the long lances to hit first, the alternative busted "cover commander" charge or a "kill button", if they were stopped before they could get out as not many units could kill hem easily, now as long as they are stopped, most units can kill them before they can start moving, unless you get their "special" doctrine that is, as t5 cav I think that situationally they are as good as the fire lancers or rattan rangers. With the current damage output, I think even a optimized short sword for defense with ironsides on can hardly withstand a full burst of damage from a t4 unit kill button, if they do survive they will be still in a bad situation

Yeah, they have to slow attacks and too low dmg in current meta. Also they no longer have cc immunity which made them actually strong

I know this is an old comment but I'd like to comment about the Monastics, before they got their "buff" and when that one type of unit where you can borrow them for a week (I forgot the name of it, haven't played the game in close to two season now) I used them one time in a siege and got a TON of kills due to the enemy team not paying attention as they were too busy trying to get the supply point near B (I can't remember the name of the map but it was A on the wall, B in between a bunch of buildings with the gate straight in front and two supply points on both sides where one was slightly close to the gate while other was a little behind B and much closer to it) and home behind B with the defender's respawn being behind home point. Wound up losing the Monastics in the end when the enemy team took notice of them but I ran away with that troll meme face and laughing my ass off the entire way.

Monastica have slow turning and the charge build up is very slow . The lack of versatility in changing attacks at end moment puts Monastics below Hussars .

And both are way below yyd. I feel like mona could be decent but things like yyd and dagger-axes are just so much easier to use
