BBT609 the last teardrop bell we had around here was oiled by a signal maintainer and it was pretty loud after that!!

Great find and catch! Love those classics, especially the Teardrop! It appears one of the signals has Safetran 12x24 inch lights, while the 8 inch lights on the other are cast-iron WRRS 8 inch lights, a normal WRRS 8 inch light, and what appears to be a Federal Signal 8 inch light.
@tmbooks8 жыл бұрын
I don't know if you're on Facebook but I've posted a more detailed description of everything going on at this crossing in the group "Railroad Signals." A few years ago the other signal also had a 3564 mech and 8" lights. So those are fairly recent changes. The 8" lights on the "main" signal are two WRRS 950s, one aluminum WRRS 970, and an aluminum Western-Cullen model. Also, there's a shot in the video showing the crossbuck is mounted to a single bracket which was originally designed to hold a single two-sided crossbuck. An identical bracket would be bolted to the other side for the other sign.

Wow, I have never seen something in that configuration before! The last interesting old signal I saw was one that had a cantilever mounted to a utility pole with the cross buck and lower lights mounted to the pole the same as the traditional cantilever signal. The bell (also a teardrop) was above the lights on the cantilever. The gate was on a separate post about 3’ high. It’s probably gone by now because I know the section of railroad, the former NY Central which was part of Penn Central then Conrail was removed long ago. The signals remained for a few years after the track was gone, but I can no longer find them. The utility pole probably was replaced at some point. I have some pictures of it somewhere.

When I was a kid, the crossing gates used to be painted black & white (instead of red & white). I think they changed sometime during the 1980s.

There was some transitional time between railroads and locations. Wooden "a-frame" gates were black and white and then red and white. If you remember black & white striped gates, you probably also remember black crossbucks with white lettering. Maybe black & yellow striped gates.

That's really beautiful. Great video.
@molossis10 ай бұрын
I think this design was so wishbone gates could be added. if you see older crossings from like the 70s, you can see they have arms moving the lights away from the mast so there can be a wishbone gate installed.
@MrBnsftrain7 жыл бұрын
Nice find! I've never seen a uS&S teardrop bell used with gates before! And it's even used on a line that's still used for freight! This crossing equipment should go to a museum, or at least be restored, and used in its current spot!
All they need to roll through there now is a nice GP30 or GP9!
