Railroad Crossing during Nighttime Snowfall

Shot during a heavy snowfall in Mishawaka, Indiana. Signal equipment includes Safetran 8" lights and GRS gate motor (WCH gate motor on other side of the tracks). Norfolk Southern freight trains on the old New York Central 20th Century Limited tracks (Dearborn Dist).

That was nice, especially how the lights reflect off the low clouds creating a very bright scene at night. Plus good train scenes, always like trains in the snow.

Just a heads up. That crossing is Russell Street in Mishawaka, not South Bend. Unfortunately they replaced both signals with new Safetran gates and lights about a month ago. I only live a mile from it but is still my favorite crossing.

Fixed. This was one of mine as well. I'll still occasionally swing by Vernon St. in South Bend and Spring St. in Mishawka to catch a train passby before those signals are replaced, which could be any day.

+freebrickproductions I'm not sure. The Chicago District is listed as Chicago to Ft. Wayne. This goes straight east to Elkhart. This crossing is Russell St. in South Bend, where I shot a video later last year as the sun was setting. As you've noticed, it's a quiet zone -- no crossing bells and no horns.

There is both the Chicago District and the Chicago Line, and this is the latter.

Quiet zones can still have bells. The horn is the only thing restricted in a quiet zone.

I've seen mechanical bells function pretty good at sub zero temperatures,another reason to dislike e bells.
