By far the most consistent channel when it comes to real passion for this hobby. Not following the trends. Staying true to your deep values. I owned the 5396j with Breguet numerals. Sold it to upgrade for a 5070. I should have been more patient. The 5396 has left a big hole in my collection. Irreplaceable. Truly unique.

"DON'T DO IT". It's hard to come by and so different to the rest of your collection. In the future you'll be forever trying to find another. Look at your Rolex's and choose one of those instead, they're easier to replace in the future. Take care mark

Your PP is an amazing watch. Sector dials are cool. I wouldn't sell it if i were you. It is a pillar of your collection. Even the JLC sector dial is hovering around 7500-8000 EUR at the moment. Enjoying it doesn't mean you have to wear it! I would rather focus on consolidation instead. Perhaps sell the Cartier + Reverso?

This is the type a Patek for when you already own a Patek. It’s a next level up from a entry level Calatrava. Then again no Patek is “entry”, that’s a different ballgame. I love this reference even with a date complication. I don’t own a Patek yet. I’m 49, but starting to feel like I will earn it in a few short years. Earn it in a sense that I’ve paid my life dues. Family, career (still moving up) age and no more nonsense. This is a true mature gentleman's watch. I will be able to buy a Calatrava in a year or two for sure. However, this 5296 is something to save a little more for. I also love the 5396 annual calendar plain dial or a sector dial but those are $40k plus.

One of the best owner calatrava videos on YT. Good job giving ac3 credit. He is partially responsible for patek and rolex hype and his reach surpasses his subscriber numbers. I appreciated your discussion of not desiring other watches after this (is that still the case I wonder) and financial implications. Keep making videos showing these watches even if you stay with this same collection.

Everose Rolex to replace rose gold Patek? When I bought the 126711chnr I thought of it as a consolation prize from my AD because I couldn’t get the steel version. I never thought it would go up in value but I bought it anyways because it was less hyped and looked fantastic in person. Best regards 😎

In my humble opinion this is probably the best calatrva. But watch collecting is about the experience and letting something go makes way for something new. But this watch is pretty special though.

Beautiful & stunning condition! Your words ring true with me. I’ve been after a the white gold version & have seen the prices creeping up. I’ve viewed with box & papers but the condition was v disappointing (from the biggest uk 2nd hand dealer). I own just 2 watches, adding this would make it a collection & hopefully cure the “habit” for a while. Cheers 🥂

When you panned over your collection (well at least part of it, no beloved BB58 in sight) at 12:53 It hit me in an almost visceral way on how "common" most of the other pieces were in comparison and perhaps even in totality to that sector dial Patek. It is the Ur of your pieces. I could see you divest yourself of all those other what are admittedly highly desirable pieces and begin the journey again with the 5296R and 11 empty slots. Cheers.

I made a special separate box now with my four Tudors with one slot empty to welcome the next!

@@UptickWatchReviews Perhaps have the Patek join the Tudors, sell the rest, and then focus the mind zen like on a completely empty box until it tells you how it wants to be filled.

you touched on something that resonates probably with more people, and not just me, that you "weren't looking for it", and honestly this is how I approached watch buying pre-pandemic (now with demand/supply it's a different story), it's not wrong to have bucket list pieces, but given that brands launch new designs every couple of years, letting the watch come to you instead of pursuing it seems like a healthier "procurement process" instead of desperately chasing them while boosting the secondary market - let's be honest, where were all of these people a few years ago ? it's not like watches are a new invention 😂 I have a Calatrava on my list when I hit a certain birthday in a few years (checking off some Rollies until then), and who knows which iterations they will launch until then cheers, and who knows, maybe you'll keep it for a lot longer

This is by far my favorite Patek Calatrava. The watch oozes classiness, absolutely gorgeous and stunning piece. If I may give a friendly advise, I´d rather sell a few other watches from your collection and keep this one. How about selling the Calatrava Travel Timer and replace it later on with a Rolex GMT ? ;)
@Saints-Forever2 жыл бұрын
That Calatrava is a piece of gem albeit without box and paper. Like someone here suggested, Patek can provide archive paper so it will be the next best thing if it means that much to you. Even with a service paper from Patek would serve as an authentification dox. I personally would not sell this but the rest yes if you have to. Btw, keep the SD40 too.
@wristfulthinking2 жыл бұрын
This w/ the SD40 would be the perfect 2 piece combo meal deal.

Don’t sell this magnificent Patek. This piece is truly scarce and is a watch I’d love to add to my collection. If you must raise some cash then I think you should sell your mass produced steel Rolex watches first.
@frankv70682 жыл бұрын
Right about Patek wrong about Rolex, even it’s mass production still doesn’t keep up with consumer’s demand. Rolex value and quality is phenomenal, not at Pateks level but worth keeping. He should sell everything else if he needs the cash except Patek and Rolex.
@sn00ze882 жыл бұрын
I know it isn't the most "preferred" papers.... But what about paying for an archive paper? The Geneva seal on it means it's over 10 years old, and you could pay to get the archive... On the box, slightly harder but Carousell/eBay might be worth stalking...

Absolutely
@sn00ze882 жыл бұрын
@@UptickWatchReviews would probably be the best 500 CHF ever spent. I've seen watches sold with archive vs naked. The price difference made it worth the while... Although Patek could be pretty slow in producing these papers

I love the Bluesy. In fact I’m pretty sure I said in another video that if I had to start from zero I’d start with a bluesy which covers most bases for me. Here I just compare the image of Patek with that of Rolex.

Hi there mate. A Patek for a Rolex 😱 would be like swapping a Bentley for a Roller Skate!!!!!!. Btw I just saw your great expose on the real reason for the Rolex “shortage”. Can I ask if Rolex was made aware of it? I can’t believe it all the same like no one took notice of it.

Hello Uptick! Watching this video for a second time, just wanted to ask are there any risks with buying a naked watch, I passed on too many good opportunities of naked watches (£5500 elegante, £2500 Cartier basculante etc) and would like to know!
@UptickWatchReviews2 жыл бұрын
Hi Antonio. I guess I could make a video about my opinion on the subject. The older the watch is, the less papers matter. Most people didn’t care one bit about the extras when they bought their watches and I bet most non-watch people still don’t. The “buy the seller” rule applies for sure but can’t guarantee a watch isn’t stolen. Even papers can’t guarantee that actually. It’s on a case-by-case basis. If the watch is rare and special enough, if the deal is worth it, if the seller is legitimate, if you plan to keep the watch for a while or at least get a price that lowers losses risks if you resold, then go for it. Some of my best watches have come naked. Girls too but that’s a longer video.

to me, the 5296R is by far the best piece of your collection. a timeless design and an incredibly balanced gold aesthetic. I see no benefit in selling it, unless you are forced to. This investment will only improve over time... and if you use it, enjoy it. No need to sell it to get few thousand dollars. Ultimately it's your choice, but I really can't figure out why you would even consider selling it

I think it's unavoidable to bump into Rolex at some point of your collecting journey. Also to call out uptick for his zenith chrono sports is disingenuous...
