Just wanted to let people know that if you suffer from chronic vestibular migraine or are always “dizzy” along with other symptoms, these types of exercises can make things worse. Only use if you are episodic and need help with mobility. This was advice given to me by my neurologist who is one of the leading MD’s in the country for VM. Hope this helps and sorry I don’t mean to dissuade anyone from the exercises that might find them helpful if you are indeed episodic only every once in a while.

Monica, you're welcome and I'm glad you like the video! Start with one session a day and if that is tolerable, then add more, up to 3 sessions/day. You can also break it up and do a few exercises at a time to fit into your schedule if that works better for you. It can take 6-8 weeks of daily performance to start to see results. Many people require ongoing performance for months for successful recovery and then maintenance of 1-2x/week. Everyone is different though and you might see results sooner.

@@monicamerestela3399 So glad to hear you are feeling improvement! If you are new to yoga, I recommend a beginner Hatha flow style class. If you have some experience with yoga, then a VInyasa flow might be a great option. Whatever style you choose, start with a beginner, slow-paced class and build up gradually. A flow style class will be helpful for vestibular rehab because of the changes in head position as you move between poses. Be sure to start slow and use blocks or other props for balance as needed.

Since you get the spells when you travel, posture might be a big one... sitting posture while traveling and sleeping position in unfamiliar beds, etc., depending on the type of traveling you're doing. Hello Beth. I just found your channel. Thank you so much for trying your best to help us that are suffering. I have a question. I was recently diagnosed with Vestibular Migraines, they thought I had Meniere's disease, but hearing test, vemp, and Ecog test was normal. I have may years of chronic balance issues, like I am on a boat, rocking, swaying whirling, etc. I tried VRT in my early years but it seemed to make me worse. This illness has completely disabled me and left me homebound and alone. I recently saw a otologist, who diagnosed the Vestibular Migraine and said I need to stop fighting the Docs who want to put me on anti convulsant meds. I asked him if vestibular therapy would help Vestibular migraine and he told me no?? I am not so sure he is correct, he did not even examine me, just looked at the paper I typed up with the very extensive symptoms. The Med assistant keeps writing I have room spinning vertigo and I do not! My attacks are more like I am thrown to the ground and thrown around internally like a piñata:(( Just trying to walk anymore is a struggle, I whirl all over and constantly feel like I am in a state of having a vertigo attack with tons of pressure in my head and neck. I do not understand why no one will listen to me. Anyway, I am sorry this is so long. I know you can not give medical advise, but your opinion would be appreciated. If you want more information, I can provide you my email address. Thanks:) Karen
@MovementFunction

Karen, vestibular rehab is known to help decrease symptoms and improve function for people with vestibular migraine. The exercises stimulate the vestibular system and do cause a temporary increase in symptoms but the increase in symptoms should be mild and go away within 20 minutes of completing the session. If the increase is severe or lasts longer than 20 minutes, back off and do fewer reps, fewer exercises, move slower, etc., until you find an intensity level you can handle. So, I recommend starting the program slowly with just a few reps and build gradually based on how much you can tolerate. Your body will get used to the movements and you'll be able to do more if you build up slowly. Also, I recommend checking out the VeDA website (Vestibular Disorders Association) at www.vestibular.org. There is a wealth of information and resources on the site that could be very helpful for you. All the best!

Hello Beth 😀 After 2 months of VT with your help you offer us in your channel, I was free of symptoms! Some residual dizinness now and then. I had vestibular neuritis. But now, I have sinusitis and slight diziness came back, feeling lightheaded and dor the first time in my life certain smells trigger headache and diziness. I do not know if this is VM or sensitivity from VN. I had motion sickness as a kid. I still do some times. My MRI is clear. Hearing loss in one ear is steady. Can I do your VT exercises and also go walking despite the symptoms? Or I will make things worse? Thanks again for your great help 🙏
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction 2 жыл бұрын
SeaSun Su, I'm so glad the exercises helped you get rid of your symptoms from vestibular neuritis! With vestibular migraine, one of the diagnostic criteria is a history of migraine apart from the vestibular symptoms. Your new symptoms are more likely a combination of effects of the sinusitis and lingering sensitivity from VN, but I can't say for sure of course. To answer your question about the exercises, I think you can do the VT exercises and go for a walk. If you feel more dizzy, decrease the exercises and stick with the walk for a couple days, then try again. All the best!

I am a bit confused, should we do all the exercises or just do few of them to start, for example the ones with eyes open and seating, once you comfortable progress to the ones with eyes closed and standing and walking? Or should I do all of them in one or two sessions a day?
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction Жыл бұрын
Cristina, it depends on how well you tolerate the exercises. If you feel significant dizziness or fatigue after doing the ones sitting with eyes open, just stick with those for a few days until you can do them with no symptoms or mild symptoms that dissipate quickly (within 20 minutes or so). Then add more challenge, such as the ones with eyes closed and standing, then walking. It can be a fine line between doing enough to make progress and doing too much that exacerbates symptoms... tolerance can also vary day by day, so it's usually best to try some exercises, add more as you can and be okay with varying them based on your overall activity level, how you're feeling, sleeping, etc. All the best!

First of all, thank you for your videos. I have a question, during these exercises my ears started popping … what does it mean? TIA
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction Жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Samantha. It most likely indicates that the movements produced pressure changes in your eustachian tubes, which is quite normal. There could be other causes of a popping sensation coming from other parts of your ears... I can't say for sure. If it felt like popping in your ears while flying or driving up/down in elevation, and you have no pain or other symptoms, there's probably nothing out of the ordinary happening. If you have pain, hearing changes, imbalance, dizziness or other symptoms associated with the popping or the exercises, then stop and check with your doctor.

I suggest starting very slowly with the exercises, just a few reps of a few exercises daily. Gradually increase the reps and exercises every few days if you are tolerating them well. Mild increase in symptoms is normal while doing the exercises and immediately after finishing them, but the increase should dissipate within 20 minutes. If the increase in symptoms remains, then do fewer exercises/reps until you're able to recover within 20 minutes.

Rajeshwari Chinni, typically downbeat nystagmus is caused by central vestibular dysfunction, arising from the brain (not VM, BPPV or Meniere's). Another possible cause is toxicity from medications, especially anticonvulsant drugs.

samoo 89, yes, it possible to have vestibular migraine without headache. One of the diagnostic criteria for vestibular migraine is that at least 50% of dizzy episodes involve ≥1 migrainous symptoms (headache, photophobia & phonophobia, OR visual aura). There are other diagnostic criteria as well, so the combination of dizziness and light sensitivity doesn't mean you definitely have vestibular migraine, but it is possible.

But after doing those exercises I feel more swaying when I lying on the bed is it normal
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction Жыл бұрын
@@vernifsiow1486 It is normal to feel a little worse for a short time after doing the exercises but the increase in symptoms should go away within about 20 minutes. If the increased swaying lasts longer, then decrease the intensity of the exercises by doing fewer repetitions, moving slower or doing fewer exercises.

I don't feel too dizzy after doing those exercises I feel a mild dizzy . In fact I can complete it effortlessly. I mean when I lie on the bed I feel more swaying than usual or sitting also feel more floating.i'm not sure should I continue the exercise? Btw my neck is lost the normal curve (but no pain no stiff) is it ok to do those exercises ?

@@vernifsiow1486 I strongly believe in listening to your body. You might have a condition that is aggravated by these movements. I recommend seeing a specialist in your area for evaluation and treatment.

How Often should You do these ?
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction 8 ай бұрын
I suggest starting with once daily. If that is tolerable, add a second session daily. If it's too much, decrease repetitions and try to continue daily.

180 degree and 360 degree exercises should be done with closed eyes or not ?
@MovementFunction
@MovementFunction 9 ай бұрын
Eyes open for safety. There might be additional benefit to doing them with eyes closed because of the additional challenge to the vestibular system, but I would not recommend it because of the risk of falling.

Ch Jayanth, start with once a day and if you can tolerate that well, add a 2nd session per day. Continue daily. Some people start to feel better after just a couple weeks while for others it may take six weeks or longer.

Yap Wein Fook, start with a slow walking pace and a slow head turn. Do only a few repetitions. Gradually increase the number of reps and the speed of movement as you can tolerate it.
