People seem to forget that Wawrinka won 3 grand slam titles... They tend to mention only Murray as the guy who managed to keep up with the big 3, I am still shocked about this honestly.
@hugo95477 ай бұрын
That’s because Wawrinka won just one masters event compared to Murray’s 14, Murray also reached numerous slam finals compared to Wawrinka’s four. Murray was world number one, and won the Tour Finals and two Olympic gold singles - crucially, Murray won against them for years and years, especially in the smaller events, Wawrinka was a late bloomer who won three slams and a masters in three years
@archierch04637 ай бұрын

Stan was telling Andy it's his last RG and it was a pleasure to have shared all these years in the tour with him, alongside something else I couldn't catch. Stan is the most underrated legendary player of our generation. Even though he won 3 GS in his career, the "Big 3" took the spotlight during his whole career, yet he manage to win big big tournaments against them. He has [in my opinion] by far, the most elegant and deadly shot I have ever seen in this spot. His backhand is otherworldly and it's an incredible feeling to watch him still doing it like this [he's almost 40...] over and over again. I will miss him and probably remember him forever. I'm sure I will have those times of nostalgia and search for videos of his best shots in the future. Lastly, even though I understand it's a ranking thing, I find it ridiculous that 1st round has such a match-up with 2 legendary players who won Grand Slams. It's total disrespect in my opinion, and I don't agree with "all players should be treated equally" because not all players are equal. These 2 are legendary players who won GS's. They deserve a "special treatment" at least on the 1st round draw. Maybe one day we will see Novak and Rafa lose a lot in ranking and match up on 1st round of RG? How ridiculous would that be? Anyways, I feel I somehow owe a thank you for Stan even though he doesn't even know me and just doing what he loves. Great guy and incredible tennis player. That backhand will be remembered for decades 🤲
@Rory6267 ай бұрын
Anyone who thinks top players don't get special treatment hasn't seen any of Novak's draws for the last 3 years 😅
@andystevenson83837 ай бұрын
Unfortunately these players would both need to be seeded to avoid each other. Legends or not, it would be a farse to grant them special treatment. Besides, these kinds of match ups are great for TV ratings for the 1st round rather than seeing Murray lose to a 19 year old French wild card. Novak vs Rafa would have been amazing in the first round as Rafa wasn't going to win a match here this year based on his form and injuries.

He is totally out of thew game at 37, he was already out before he ever thought to be out of it. The time of these today’s veterans - Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Marat Safin, etc., - was for me the best time of tennis in the history. I know, it’s pure subjective, but battles they have fought are unforgettable. You can play tennis by counting fifteens, but you can play tennis when all physical, mental powers and skills are challenged behind each one ball played.
