Toby's father really did lose his eye while in the service. Toby wrote this song after the world Trade Centers were hit on 9/11/2001, but only performed the song for the troops while visiting them. He had shrapnel from a mortar go through his arms and legs and the blast rupturing an eardrum. He was airlifted to a MASH unit and then spent a month in a hospital in Osaka.. Most of his medical was received at the VA and they supplied his hearing aids because it was service connected but he had to pay his own dental too. I heard an interview with Toby Keith saying he never intended to record this song, it was just something he played at the USO shows. Thank you for your service! My Grandfather proudly served in the Navy back in WWII. He loved his fellow Seabees and attended reunions every year until he passed away in '91. Miss you, Granddaddy! Thank you to all who serve! Shout outs, from Tennessee

First of all, thank you for serving. Second, I agree that soldiers offer everything of themselves, up to & including their LIVES, and when they’re done serving they should be taken care of!
