Beaumont's story breaks my heart. My biggest fear is having something happen to me while my dog is still alive. I have made provisions, but so did Beaumont's mom. Thank you for helping her.
@cperhala88432 жыл бұрын
Beaumont's case reminds me of one of my dogs. She had been taken from her owners due to neglect. The other dogs were PTS right away due to their very poor condition. Somehow my Kenny Girl got put on Petfinder, even though she was considered unadoptable. I called about her and adopted her a couple days later. They had spayed her prior to adoption. She was a Great Pyrenees weighing 45lbs with nearly white gums. When I took her to my vet for suture removal they couldn't believe they spayed her in that condition. Her healthy weight was 65lbs (yah, a bit petite for the breed!). Best.Dog.Ever.

Dr Karri, will you please do a section about FIV, what it is and what long term care looks like? I remember sweet Crimson has FIV and no toothsies, right? Gorgeous baby, I want him to get adopted soon ❤️
@SevCaswell2 жыл бұрын
From what i remember from Marmalade (of Cole and Marmalade on youtube) when he was diagnosed, it doesn't require medications. There is however an increased risk of cancer and dental disease. And provided that the infected cat is not fighting (real proper deep puncture wounds kind of fighting) with their housemates transmission is highly unlikely.
@butchieblock91182 жыл бұрын
@Tanny M, I've been wondering about Crimson. My calico who is 12 plus or minus just had a full dental extraction done. She's on doxycycline prophylactically but dry food and cookies don't get her down whatsoever. And she still tries to bite me on occasion, the joke's on her!!! I'd love to know more about FIV with having other felines in my house....

I have had great results with a Calming Collar for cats that stress lick (over groom). I had one foster for my shelter that licked wounds on himself. I put a Calming Collar on him, and within a month the wounds were healing! I had another that had licked his back half (belly, back and legs) bald. That took a couple of months with the Calming Collar. It also helps sometimes with marking behavior if it is stress related. With a few of the cats I have, I have to occasionally pull out a fresh Calming Collar (they last a month or more) because the behavior returns. The Calming Collar has pheromones (hormones) from mama cat teats, and since the collar is worn, the effect is constantly soothing the cat, unlike the defusers that do NOTHING in my opinion. So you might try one on your stress licking kitty! (Been using them for a couple of decades. I foster, permanently foster, and adopt the cats that have issues.)

Also Texas Giving Day is a nice yearly way to help Abandoned Pet Project raise extra funds! I come to youtube for this cause honestly in 2023 the climate of censor everything not a much else is good. I miss the surgery videos and I hope for more day in the life of a VET I want sooooo many kids to be aware of this field of work and who love animals to find this content. I'm an example of a grown up who only learned in my 30s I'd have loved to go to school for this.
