Today I want to show you this tumbler polisher by Vevor. I've heard good things about it from other makers, so I was very curious, especially since I needed to upgrade my own tumbler. Vevor has kindly sent me this tool to test and share my review. In this video I'll show you how it's packaged, how to set it up and how it works. And, of course, I'll share my review after using it! :)

This is an excellent tumbler. It used to be called the Orange B tumbler. It's inexpensive. Rio Grande did a front panel redesign with the manufacturer (to a digital face - totally not necessary) and then charged over 8 times as much. This analog version is solid. I have two, and all my students have and love them. I recommend the lowest setting only - it's a very powerful machine. And be careful not overload it even though it has a large barrel. I use at LEAST 2 lbs. of stainless shot or media. Great video Basia!

Thanks for the demo! I bought the same one here in Canada so the outside of it looks a bit different however it's exactly the same in its function. I haven't used it yet but got the steel shot as well as some burnishing compound concentrate so I can add it to the water solution. Going to try it out tonight.

Thank you Basia! Yesterday i was checking this tumbler on vevor because my lortone tumbler often leaks. So the timing of your video about this tumbler is perfect! I think this tumbler is louder, but also much faster and less chance of leakage than the lortone. So i'll be ordering this one soon. Also got the ball vice from vevor (which is great). Love to watch your video's, keep up the good work!
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing

Oh wow, that's perfect timing indeed! Seeing how other makers are happy with this tumbler, I think it will be a good choice. It's a bit loud, I'll need to figure out a DIY noise cancelling box to be able to use it in my space (lots of offices in the same building), but that's the only "flaw" I noticed. Other than that, it's powerful and mighty 😁

Enjoyed this - I’d seen these but wasn’t so sure about them, the plastic I thought would score easily - but then I have gemstones in mine in the rough! Never combined my love of stones on the beach with jewellery making before! Had a tumbler decades ago. I’d picked up so many stones in the summer hubby treated me to a small 3lb tumbler. In the end we went with an affordable one on Amazon from Gitsense which had a day timer as well as speed settings and a pause button - essential for doing rough stones. I only got one full tumble done due to a car accident - some “idiot” rammed me from behind when stopped letting another car turn right long story but how can you miss a Ford kuga with brake lights on in front of you! So life had been turned upside down since mid September and I’m still having issues - sat here potting away with ice packs strapped to my knee - didn’t even know I’d hurt it till I was more mobile!! Least my dog was saved by the kuga having a tow bar fitted. So I never got a second lot started. I plan to pre cut the rough stones and rough shape some before tumbling. I would LOVE to have a space like you do and the brains to sell too!! Im a back room type who works away behind the scenes!! I love watching all your different videos. 😊😊 ❤❤

Ah! Basia! I have this same tumbler but I've found that even on the lowest setting it destroys my jewelry. Bezels get extremely bent and a serrated bezel is destroyed entirely. I tumble between 2-4 hours, any less isn't worth a tumble and any more eats my pieces alive. When I tumble rings that are simple bands only it works great!! I've been wondering if I should invest in a different tumbler. Have you had any similar experiences or am I possibly doing something wrong?
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 7 ай бұрын
Hmm, I wonder what might be causing this. I haven't used this one long enough (with pieces other than ring bands) to observe any damage, but I'll keep an eye on it. Someone mentioned in the comments that maybe the amount of pieces inside could be making this issue worse, but I truly don't know. Maybe a different type of shot could help? 🤔 I'll do some tests and hopefully will be able to let you know when I find out more about this issue 🙏

Ok, I’ve been experiencing a similar problem with this tumbler and my silver jewelry! I use the mixed media stainless steel shot from rio grande with water and a bit of dish soap. But my bezels also are always drastically bent inward like you said, and serrated bezels are destroyed. The edges of flat silver (shapes cut from sheet silver) end up with jagged lips on them kind of like you’d get from using a file on silver edges. And my biggest issue is that that all flat surfaces come out slightly pitted. It’s subtle, but extremely annoying. I’ve been trying to figure out what to change about my process, but it seems most people have no issues. You’re one of the only other people I’ve found who has similar issues with tumbling. What kind of shot do you use and how much? And how much water do you use?

Thanks for another well set up video! 1 question, do you still buff your rings with a buffing wheel for a shiny surface or is there no need anymore after drying them?
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 5 ай бұрын
I'm still experimenting with different finishes and sometimes I'm still buffing of course. It's best tp test and see how the pieces look like and which finish fits your design and expectations the best :)

I have had this tumbler for over year now and have no problems with it at all certainly no issues with bezels getting damaged as someone else mentioned perhaps they are putting too many items in at one time which maybe what is causing the issues with damaged items. I use stainless steel shot and dish soap and usually tumble for 1hr which is generally long enough
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 7 ай бұрын
Great tips, thank you 😀 I need to get a stainless steel shot. And yes, I thought that too, that maybe the amount of pieces inside could be an issue here. But I haven't tried it myself yet, so I still need to see for myself 😀 So far, I only tumbled my ring bands, I need to try with other pieces as well.
@colleenwinn1617

I use this tumbler and my pieces always come out with bent/ destroyed bezels and a slightly pitted surface, even though I only ever put 1-3 small pieces in at a time. I only use the lowest setting, and these issue occur every time regardless of how long i run the tumbler. I use the mixed media stainless steel shot from Rio Grande (which other people seem to love) with a bit of water and dish soap and rinse the shot between each use. The pitting might be due to the pins/rods in the mixed media shot, but I know that if I use only round shot then the tight spots on my jewelry won’t be reached. And it seems that others use the mixed media shot with no issues. I cannot figure out why this happens. Do you use round shot only? How many pounds do you use?

@@syfylover1I bought the vevor rolling mill that was around $135. I've been using it for over a year now without issues. I've had to tighten down some bolts every few months but I use it almost daily. With the quality of the rolling mill, you really can't beat a price of under $150.
@torstenneuer1560
@torstenneuer1560 7 ай бұрын
It is indeed a solid and rather good tumbler for the price. I have no problem with the noise level, as I have my tumblers running in a different room and not my studio. The manufacturer also keeps improving on the mechanisms on this machine. This is good. Not that good, however, is, that they keep sending it together with ordinary steel shot instead of stainless. Also it runs much too fast. Tumbling is about burnishing the metal rather than polishing it, so slower speed settings with mixed shape (and heavier) shot normally will give better results - like I get from my Homberg&Brusius double drum tumbler. Still, the VEVOR does some decent work.

UK? You need to register with your local asset office and get a makers mark. ££ Personally I think London offers the best service, having also looked at Birmingham. Then it’s just a case of sending you items in a paying for the service.

I own one of these it is ok you can put a little petroleum jelly on the ring seal it will help it seal better. The shot is steel so it will rust unlike the stainless steel I normally use the top will crack after time also it can be a little too rough on bezels so be wary.

I have a Lortone tumbler and it comes with a rubber cylinder and they have the best seal. This one I think the closure is too fidgety. I would never trade in my Lortone . I use this type of tumbler for after cutting the metal and I use a magnetic tumbler for polishing the jewelry because magnetic tumblers don’t remove material it just polishes the jewelry
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing

I'm interested in the magnetic tumbler as well, it's been recommended to me many times. What model do you have? Is it loud?
@scottbenson8105
@scottbenson8105 7 ай бұрын
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing I just bought an inexpensive $200-300 dollar one on Amazon that has good ratings. They aren’t too terribly loud because they use metal pins instead of the shot that’s used in my Lortone tumbler and most magnetic tumblers come with the metal pins already that are used in it. But most magnetic tumbler’s have a plastic bowl instead of a rubber one like my Lortone so that makes it louder. It all just depends on how much jewelry you are making. This one is good for me right now. I love your videos keep them coming

I have read reviews that say these things leak a lot is that true for you?
@colleenwinn1617
@colleenwinn1617 7 ай бұрын
Mine leaks from the lid because there’s not enough tension on the seal. I remedy this by folding a paper towel in half until it’s fairly thick. I place it between the lever mechanism and the lid and then pull the lever over to seal the lid with the towel still underneath. The towel just shims it up enough so that it creates a tighter seal and doesn’t leak. You could use any piece of cloth or soft object of a similar size for this.
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing
@TheArtOfMetalsmithing 7 ай бұрын
I'm sorry, I haven't been using it long enough to be able to tell. Hopefully it won't leak, but we'll see. Some products may be faulty like that. There is an extra seal in the package, which I think can be changed and stop the leakage
