Taperlock is a great system, I've used it for a good few years and it comes with a huge variety of fittings. It's not the cheapest system but it is the best.

Oh, I was looking at one of those online the other day, I believe. A thoughtful feature was the Aluminum frame and armature, I believe. The savings in shipping should be substantial and the aluminum should keep it cool. Quality appears excellent as with the included pulley

I need one of those pulleys for my S7. It's pulley is always working loose on me! The power braking on a VFD is great especially if you are cutting threads in metric. You need to watch out the chuck doesn't unscrew itself though!! Obviously a bit late now, but check your junk yard for 3 phase motors. I've found a couple of good ones at mine! There's really nothing that can go wrong with them other than a worn out bearing which is an easy fix.

Hi Steve. Many thanks for the video and it will help greatly with my Myford conversion. I think I have probably made one error in that I ordered a TaperLock pulley the same size as the original on my machine (approx 2") , but now find that with this size the TaperLock pushes the groove much closer to the motor and may give me a problem with alignment. Consequently, could you advise what size pulley you used and has it limited the speed range at all? Thank again.

I hope someone can help. Great video. I’ve purchased the same AT1 model. I’ve connected single phase 230v and UVW wires to motor, having rewired fro star to delta a connection. When I apply power to unit there is no response, no indication on display. I’ve checked and confirmed 230 v at the L-N terminals. I can’t see any external reset buttons etc. I’m presuming I don’t need to make any connections at the 12 point small terminal strip. Maybe I just have a dud unit. Has anyone any advice?

hi steve,after watching your vid i bought both the same motor and vfd but i cant get the motor to run with any torque at all,i can stop the motor with my hand very easy,ive checked all the parameters and they are as they should be ,the only thing i can see that might not be right is the out going voltage, when i test between neutral and an out going phase i get 150v,and 240v between phases, can you tell me if this is right ive searched the net high and low for the answer ,many thanks

Hi Steve! Have You tried to lower the voltage output from the VFD? I have this universal brushless 195V washing machine motor, I want to use on a circulation pump on my plating tank setup. Mr. Jordan, nice video I'm trying to locate a motor it shows (no longer made) I'm from the US I'm assuming any 3-ph 1hp 4-pole motor 1740 rpm should work I have a drill-mill which is what I want to convert. I'm somewhat concerned if I will keep enough torque depending on the pulley? They show the VFD inverter on eBay at $118.00 dollars. Also, I like the dial gauge set-up for the quick change.

The AT1 is for 220V or dual voltage 3ph motors, I made the mistake of getting this model, but I had to return it. I believe I need the AT4 model for connection to 380V motors, in the black casing, as my motor is 415V

Hello Steve, I really enjoy watching all your videos, very informative and so enjoyable, this article got me interested in VFD's, I have a 240Volt single phase ac induction motor on my lathe it is 1/2 HP 1480 RPM and I would love to control the speed with a potentiometer, but I don't know which VFD Controller to buy, could you point me in the right direction please as I am really confused as to which one I should get, there are so many of them. While there are VFD for single phase output, they’re rare. Generally, you need to buy a three phase motor and VFD. Just look for a single phase output VFD with 220-240 volt output. Obviously, at least 1/2 Hp. You can use a bigger one if that’s all you find for single phase output. Make sure the input is 240 volts if that what you’re going to plug it into. Most single phase output VFDs have 120 volt input. But if this is an older motor, say more than 25 years old, you can’t run it at anything other than the nominal frequency without damaging the motor long term. Actually, if the motor is older than 10 years that’s likely true. Good luck.

Hi Karl, I only have basic electronic knowledge so I don't know. I just wired it up and just use it. Everything works brilliantly so I don't really delve into anything unless there is a problem. Steve Jordan From my also limited understanding of this the spiky shape of the current will induce magnetic fields that will cause interference with other equipment. You want to keep the three phase cable as short as possible and possibly shield it. Or use a shielded cable.

Hi I don't know about that. I have wired one of mine up with the auxiliary control so that I can use the start/stop and foward/reverse on the lathe, but that's all I know about them.

Hi That sounds like the motor isn't compatible with the VFD. With both of the ones I have wired up there was no need to alter anything really so I haven't really studied the parameter settings.

Hi I wouldn't know how to do that. I only know very basic electronics. I have wired my Mini Lathe one so the control switches are on the lathe coming from the auxiliary board. I have done a video of that if that's what you mean? It's the same VFD just in a different housing so all is the same as this one Regards Steve
