Just use a standard step down transformer in reverse. If you are only looking to power household items that would work fine (less than 2-3kw). The case of the transformer is metal and would provide adequate shielding if properly grounded on both ends. The only emi would be 60 cycle hum and shouldn’t be an issue since it’s already present from your home unshielded wiring.

I know this is two years old but for those looking for the same answer: If you live in Canada or the states and your outlets are 120v, most fuse panels are two phase and 220v comes into the house. The fuses or breakers tap off between 1 phase and Neutral to give 120v. If you go across the two live phases you get 220v. An electrician would be able to wire to a 220v vfd properly.

If a hook up an industrial on/off switch running in between the outlet, and the VFD power cord connections on the unit, will this work as a master power switch. Why does soldered have less resistance than crimped?
@corvetteguy50 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your support. Solder provides a fluid metal, and when applied to conductors to weld them together spreads over them providing a larger conductive surface then there is when using crimp connectors resulting in lower resistance. Soldering when done properly with flux provides the best electrical connections for precision electronics. This explains why all internal electronics utilize them where practical. CNC controller's manufacturers typically don't provide solder connections as the labor is far greater then when using crimp connections. Thank you, Vince

Thanks for the very helpful video. Quick question: Being in the US on 110V 20A circuits, I ordered a Huang Yang 1.5kW VFD/spindle combo online, but unfortunately the vendor sent me a 2.2kW combo. Being borderline for my circuits, I am hoping I can limit the current using the PD142 function to "fake" the rated current of the spindle and reduce to it 13A to get close to 1.5kW, assuming this is what the 1.5kW/110V VFD model should be set at. Is that the correct approach? Any risk the breakers on which the VFD and spindle are individually connected to will trip?

Ton of insights here - thank you so much for sharing your expertise. I am in the States and intend to use my wall outlet's third prong as my earth ground. I apologize in advance if this is the kind of rambling brain fart that should be addressed with a second cup of coffee, but can you offer a sanity check on the earth ground terminals in the VFD enclosure? One is on the screw terminal block ("screw terminal earth ground" for the sake of something to call it), and two additional screws in the VFD enclosure have earth ground symbols to the lower left and lower right of the screw terminal block ("enclosure earth grounds"?). So far everything matches to what you describe. You mention being able to use all three to ground the input power, spindle cable, and spindle cable drain to avoid pigtailing off the single earth on the screw terminal block. I have not yet powered up the VFD, and with the unit unpowered, I show no continuity between the screw terminal earth ground and either of the additional enclosure earth ground screws. Is that expected, or would you expect to see evidence of a connection between the enclosure earth grounds and the screw terminal ground?

Just to make sure while looking @07:25 with all connected cables visible in and outside the VFD. The *Grounding Terminal* to the right of U V W has two wires connected to it - One being the *Grounding Wire* of the *Spindle Cable* and another spliced to the *Shielding* of the same *Spindle Cable* ? That lonely *Green Wire* that is following the black and white offscreen appears to be the grounding wire of the *220V Power Cable* but it doesn't look like its connected to anything inside the VFD ( hard to see ) - I assume this is where the Grounding Terminals mentioned @05:20 come into play? Just when I expected you to say your RS(T) wire's grounding wire should go there you suddenly start talking about shielding the 220V Cable too - Is THAT Grounding Terminal supposed to, like with the Spindle Cable, accept both the Grounding wire AND the Shielding of the 220V Cable? You kind of only talk about connecting the Spindle Cable on the VFD end but what about the Spindle Side? Does the Shielding mesh make contact with the Plugs Housing? I assume not as otherwise it would create a Grounding Loop with the Spindle Cables Grounding Wire the moment a Spindle gets attached to it.

Durahl, Thank you for your support. Your correct the power cords ground is attached to the terminal on the far bottom left which I discuss in the video. The cable I'm using to power the system is just to power the unit for illustration only as discussed in the video. A double shielded cable should be used, and the shield ground lead will connect to the same lower left corner terminal that has the earth ground from the spindle cable going to the unit. Your also correct in that you only attach a shield drain ground to one end of then either the VFD end which I prefer, or the chassis/power cord plug base pending its metal for conductivity. This assures no ground loops. Thank you, Vince

Hi! I'm building a new CNC machine, I have MACH 4, ESS, G540 and Huanyang VFD (4kW) with a 2.2kW Spindle. COuld you please explain how to connect all these so the spindle starts and speed to be controlled from MACH 4? Thank you!
@corvetteguy506 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your support. I would proceed with extreme caution using a 4kw VFD with the 2.Kw spindle as it can, and will easily destroy the spindle do to it providing twice the power output of the spindle. Mach4 setup should be very similar to Mach3's in terms of settings. I can provide the G540 Mach3 settings if you contact me through email at Storm2313@gmail.com Thank you, Vince

@@corvetteguy50 Great video Vince and very useful VFD setting sheet. I am not sure that you are correct here though.....just because a controller is capable of supplying 4KW does not mean that the spindle will consume 4KW. The spindle will use its rated power. If anything, it is beneficial to have a higher rated inverter as (i) allows you to upgrade to a higher rated spindle later should you wish to and (ii) less stress on the inverter using a 2KW spindle on a 4KW inverter.
@corvetteguy507 ай бұрын
Thank you for your support. I'm not sure where you heard that in the video as I never said that a spindle would consume the maximum power rating of its selected VFD. Actually the spindle like any other A/C motor will only pull the amount of amps it requires when under load from machining. Optimally and end user should never in best practice run their equipment under maximum stress, so hitting even close to a spindle's matched VFD's amp rating is usually never done which will certainly increase the platforms longevity. Using a larger VFD than your spindle requires makes the end user pay more than they're required to which is fine if their budget supports it for a potential later upgrade, but certainly not required as all their doing is leaving all that extra power not being used by the VFD "on the shelf" Thank you, Vince

Great information. I am setting up my 4848 and just started on the VFD wiring. I spent the last couple evenings watching most of your vids. They have helped immensely! My VFD is in the back of my machine. I could flip the drag chain but I would rather keep the front shelf open for supplies. Would you happen to know where I could possible get one of those ribbon wires? It would be great to run my VFD panel to the front of the machine. My VFD is the HY02D223B. Thanks Roy

Can I get 1 of these to hook up to my stand alone cnc controller where my gcode will turn on the spindle to the rpm I program? Also can I get it to work on 110 volt ac to just plug into a standard outlet?
@corvetteguy505 жыл бұрын
Hey Max, thank you for your support. The unit will work with any HY VFD, and what you described would work if you left the setting at a specific RPM setting while turning the unit on. The unit will work on whatever voltage the VFD utilizes as its simply an extension cable for the digital interface that controls the VFD. Have a great weekend! Vince
@maxcox60195 жыл бұрын
@@corvetteguy50 so it's not possible to have my gcode control the rpm as well as turn it on and off?
@corvetteguy505 жыл бұрын
This interface isn't designed for that. It simply allows for your digital interface from your VFD to remotely located. Thank you, Vince

@@corvetteguy50 so I would use pwm cw and ccw wires off my controller to run it from my gcode?
@corvetteguy505 жыл бұрын
@@maxcox6019 If your system is using a stand alone controller with integrated VFD then you would use your PWM output to manipulate the spindle speed in Mach3. You should contact your controllers manufacturer to validate the system will support it. Thank you, Vince

hi Vince thanks for the response. Watching your video you seam to know what your talking about, and I really don't I've never heard of a vfd till a couple of days ago. I'm 18 years old and just getting started buying some woodworking tools I bought a old Luna w59 3phase combination table saw,jointer, spindle. It has three 2.2kw 3phase motors in it they are all connected to a single control panel and will only be used individual. so I think I only need one vfd since all the motors are the same and will not be use simultaneously. Do you think I should get a 3kw or 4kw vfd huanyany I'm unsure how much extra I need for starting up the motors bit.ly/2AR8anR bit.ly/2VMu1VZ This may seam like obvious answer to you buy ive been struggling to understand it as I have no experience with electronics thank you for any advice and for taking time to read this.

Solomon, thank you for your support, and your correct a single VFD is all you'll require. You'll require a 2.2Kw VFD if that's what the motors are rated for. Thank you, and have a great weekend, Vince

I see from your video a 20 feet or more cable connecting to the digital operator; I need one that long, unstead of the 29 ft one supplied with the unti. Where can I find that 20 ft cable or what is the spec of that cable? Remi laforest.remi@gmail.com
