Dad took me to see Stan Kenton when I was 12. A long-haired, crazy good drummer stood out, in stark contrast to everyone else (all 30 of them !) Stan let my dad direct the band once Erskine cut his hair. Stan was not happy; he thought that a hippie drummer would attract a younger crowd.

His stick is long taper, balance is different than a 5A for example. Which is strange is his stick is like the 5B in thickness, which is very odd for a Jazz player, he has is own technic and approach sure thing.
