VG Myths - Can You Beat Super Mario Bros. Wonder Without Collecting Coins?

Good morning! I have a couple notes to add as an addendum! 1) I forgot to mention there is actually a third OOB method that, as far as I'm aware, is still possible on version 1.0.1: you can teleport your partner on top of floating blocks, and they can jump OOB from there. It's obviously far less versatile than the original OOBs and I don't believe it makes any more seeds obtainable. 2) I've gotten conflicting reports on whether or not a Factory Reset would allow us to use OOB glitches again on a preexisting, 1.0.1 save file. I've both seen claims that a save file made on a patched version cannot be played on a prior version of the game, *and* reports that it can. Even if hypothetically it does work, though, I don't currently have a physical copy of the game and would *really* rather not factory reset my console: I still have unpatched downloaded versions of a few games, such as Tears of the Kingdom (and I've heard there's some wild shenanigans in that game I don't want to lose access to when I get around to a challenge in fifty years). I've been told moving into World 5 from the Special World is nonviable, since the player ends up just sort of stuck in a single spot without the ability to move. Gaining access to OOB again would still allow us access to more seeds from the Special World levels I believe, but I'm sorry, I just really don't want to go through the factory reset unless there's a bigger chance it opens up something really big.

Yeah :/ kind of a depressing end that's only a problem because of the way modern games are treated. It's really sad and like. Impossible to expect someone to see something in the hands of a business updating a game while doing a funny challenge run in something they created. It sucks to see so much effort poured into strats that could possibly beat the whole game only for that strategy to no longer exist one day. Don't wanna be a debbie downer but XP that stinks, but at least we got to see what could be done with those strategies at all

Sorry to burst y'all's bubble, but as she says in the pinned comment, accessing world 5 would not have worked even if the OOB glitches were not patched. The mission failed would remain the same either way. All we can hope is that some crazy new glitch that has yet to be discovered that allows access to world 5 will one day be discovered, in which case I'm sure she'll follow this up and clear the challenge for good.

Miss GameChamp, I feel like your content is some of the best content on KZbin. I mean, not only does it feel like a monumental event every time you release a new video, but you literally haven't come close to missing since VG Myth's earlier days. Now, granted, I feel like you absolutely deserve to take a break so that way you don't literally go insane for our amusement, but at the same time, I wish I had the mental resistance that you have. Out of every single one of your challenge runs, you've only gone crazy doing one of them. You might've gone crazy during other challenge runs, but I wouldn't know. You only took an extended break when your hands were in immense pain, and even then, you took that opportunity to perform one of the most strategic challenges you've ever done. And I literally can't count how many times you've done a challenge that would drive an average joe such as myself to Insanity. Obviously, there's Pokémon without getting hit, but there's also the rockman games without getting hit, Scott Pilgrim VS The World: The Game without stat boosts, several mario games without jumping or collecting coins, etc. I'm convinced that you're either secretly going insane, or that the aforementioned Pokémon challenge made you more resistant to psychological damage, and I choose to believe the latter, because the former sounds horrible. Maybe you should take a break from making these challenge videos for a bit. Take your own advice for once. Sit back, and drink a latte. You've earned that latte after the hell you've put yourself through.

I'm pretty sure down patching still works, by using the Nintendo cloud service and Factory resetting you can get to 1.00 in a game while keeping save data, I don't have Mario wonder, or people to do the multiplayer shenanigans with but it'd be interesting to test out, It's how Ceave uploaded an impossible level in SMM2 and I don't think theres a way to patch it

You can up-patch and keep save data, but not down-patch. Redownloading NSO data makes the game say "You've updated to 1.1.0 on this save data before, do it again so nothing breaks" I'm pretty sure.

​@@natnew32There might still be an unofficial way I'm pretty sure, with a hacked switch I'm pretty sure you could extract your save data and if you have a cartridge version with 1.0.0 on it, and if you're playing on emu nand with 90 DNS on it so your switch doesn't connect to Nintendo's servers, I think you could be able to open the game without ir requesting an update.

In this video, Gamechamp voiced a particular concern about making challenge content on KZbin: "Other people making videos on this challenge first." But you know what? I don't care if somebody's done a particular challenge run before, I wanna see GAMECHAMP do it. I ADORE her writing style, her pacing, her voice, everything. I haven't heard of these other people who have done this run before, every run she does is still a fresh new exciting thing to me. Sure, it's nice of her to credit past discoveries she comes across, but I don't want to see Gamechamp's exhilarating entertainment career fizzle out just because of "competition". As always, you make my day, Gamechamp.

51:30 Ok so Any% wonder speedrunner here, so as gamechamp calls it, the "air walk glitch" also known as an OoB slide, occurs when a player jumps and lands on an area where jumping is not available, it also occurs when swapping from 2P to 1P when P1 is not on a surface where jumping is an option. Hope that clears things up for everyone

That’s certainly quite the challenge run, though I’m surprised it didn’t end up turning into a minimum coin challenge after the mission failed. Makes me wonder if that one Poplin mafia blocking entry into world 5 is the only reason it’s impossible to beat the game coinless, because honestly that’s hilarious if so, Nintendo just deciding to make coinless impossible in the *cheapest* way possible.

What i love about challenge runs like these in general isnt just if they can be done Its the methods and how far out of ones way one needs to go to actually even try to do it ♡ i remember the no jumping in Mario Odyssey having a quote like "it was actually hard to NOT do it at a point because you get so used to it then" or something to that effect
