Had Jake used the Zombie skin, this would be a more fitting match-up. Regardless, good game to both players!

18:01 Notice how BOTH Jake and Dom got disconnected (though Jake presses a button really shortly after). This was a Switch issue, not a Pro Controller issue.
@UmbraVivens942 жыл бұрын
no, as soon as the notice is fading in, the "READY!" graphic is already there on Jake's side, watch frame by frame. Jake's cursor starts moving immediately because he was holding that direction. Dom's cursor would've done the same, i doubt his stick was neutral the entire time

Jake is using a gamecube controller and Dom's wireless pro controller disconnected. That is what i got from it
@Galaxia_EX2 жыл бұрын
Regardless of who disconnected (I'm pretty sure I've seen this happen with GC controllers at least once) Dom shouldn't have had to SD unless he _deliberately_ disconnected. He shouldn't be responsible for a random control failure. The rule is that you have to SD if you pause on purpose or something like that that, not if your controller happens to disconnect by itself.
@extonjonas68202 жыл бұрын
@@Galaxia_EX Unless the controller is faulty how would a game cube controller disconnect? Also, how would you know if someone deliberately did something like this or not. It is unfortunate but you can't always tell peoples intentions. I am sure it was honest in this case but then you would have to start drawing distinction everytime which makes things complicated. It comes up so rarely that I think it is definitely safer to go with the simplest approach

@@Galaxia_EX well its a good thing you're not in charge of tournament rules because what you're suggesting is dumb. It's Dom's fault for not charging his pro controller beforehand or better yet connecting his pro controller using USB C

People are going to talk shit on Steve in this comment thread because he isn't an approach heavy character and miss out on Jake doing galaxy-brained integral calculus set ups in the middle of the match. I prefer faster paced characters myself, but damn Jake is interesting to watch
@AlhiXD2 жыл бұрын
It isn't as simple as that. approach-heavy misses the conversation. The conversation is zoners as a subtype of playable character in smash and what benefits they get and how they can trivialize other forms of skill.
@benstone33232 жыл бұрын
@@AlhiXD I mean smash is a relatively match-heavy fighting game. There are rushdown characters which completely invalidate Steve's skillset. I main ZSS and personally don't have many problems with him. There are loads of toolkits which invalidate the skill required to use other toolkits. Welcome to having 80 characters in a game.
@AlhiXD2 жыл бұрын
@@benstone3323 wow a reply. I literally wrote what you wrote and deleted it. What I was going to write is how this game has devolved into a pokemon tournament. Just saying that is enough. But no, I can't write the same thing twice. Zoners are dumb and people that play them just need to be challenged--which is why they need their own game. Tekken meet Soul Calibur.
@benstone33232 жыл бұрын
@@AlhiXD zoners aren't dumb. They have been in Smash Bros. since the very beginning. Most other smash games have had like 3 characters win the vast majority of tournaments, so I actually like Ultimate's balancing. You just need to learn to play against them. Out of the characters most people think are top 5, not a single one is a zoner haha. I don't get enjoyment out of playing them. But some people do. I'm fine with them.
@benstone33232 жыл бұрын
@@AlhiXD I personally LOVE how expressive and varied Steve's tool kit is. I feel like I see something different every time I see a good Steve play.

This was 100% a switch problem in my opinion. This has happened to me (albeit outside of tournament) while my opponent and I are both using a gamecube controller and no other people or controllers were connected to the system. Those saying it wasn't Jake because he moved first - it's because he was holding right for the DI, is using a wired Gamecube controller, and the game automatically registered this as a "buffered input" and his controller was reconnected instantly whereas the pro controller needs a moment to resync. In this situation, it would have been no problem to reset neutral and continue the game. No one was going to be caused to lose a stock by this disconnect aside from by whomever made the call for Dom to throw his stock. tl;dr imo switch booted them both but GC controller reconnected first.

Something feels wrong about this set.
@ados12802 жыл бұрын
What a tragedy for Dom. This is exactly why you should use a wired controller and not a wireless pro controller at majors. Because stuff like that can happen.
@DeemerAV2 жыл бұрын
He's actually using a USB wire with his pro controller, meaning he is literally playing wired. He said it was the wire itself that caused the disconnect, so ironically enough this wouldnt have happened if he was actually wireless
@ados12802 жыл бұрын
@@DeemerAV Is it a naturally wired controller? As in it can't be wireless? Or is it a wireless pro controller that was plugged in?
@AndreasSaag2 жыл бұрын
@@DeemerAV that’s strange because I remember a plugged in pro controller used to have MORE lag compared to not plugged in
@Galaxia_EX2 жыл бұрын
I mean I don't think we should be holding players responsible for a random controller failure? This wasn't Dom's fault, it's not like he disconnected on purpose. I don't think he should've had to SD there.
@ados12802 жыл бұрын
@@Galaxia_EX Unfortunately, those are the rules. If the game gets interrupted through controller failure, or you pause the game, you have to give up a stock. The only exception is if they're on the respawn platform, or waiting to be respawned, so it doesn't technically interrupt anything. And it technically is his fault though, you have to make sure your equipment is working, and pro controllers are known to be much more finicky, especially at large events like this where there can be wireless interference.
