Just watching this again, I actually went to this event! The lights btw was actually the fire alarm being pulled. This was unfortunately the second time it had been pulled during the event that weekend, hence why hardly anyone evacuated. It was a false alarm the first time and everyone thought it was the same story. Sucks it happened during Top 8.

I'm much more of a Big D fan, but I also know that crowds do make a huge difference, even in sports like football and basketball. Big D did have the home advantage. The lights would affect both players equally so that definitely came off like a john, but when the entire venue is loudly screaming for your opponent to win, I think it affects all players, and probably requires mental training specifically to overcome it.

Just the overt verbal and nonverbal complaining when doing so would not make the crowd stop cheering for the opponent/would not turn the fire alarm off sooner just made him look like he was johning. It would have been much better for him to either win in spite of the challenge or to lose gracefully than to lose while complaining.
