@@TitansTracks Plus, Battle Network is a sort of spin-off of the original Megaman & Megaman X games that were mostly platformers, while Battle Network is a sort of quasi-Strategy RPG. All are worth playing, particular the X series (though X6 & X7 are essentially the worst entries in the series). And then there's Megaman X Command Mission which is a classic turn-based RPG set in the Megaman X universe.

You explained just how great of a finale of the series this was so well. For me, I loved 3 the most. I loved the more simplistic nature but 3 had a more defined movement then the previous 2. Really great remix, getting an aggressive theme to loop effectively is hard to do, so your balance in it is really superb!

Oh dude 3 was the first game I got for GBA. I have great memories of that game. Plus I read somewhere that it's actually the most praised game of the Hexology ( is that a word?). Basically ppl love 3 because it's packed with stuff to find and collect. Glad you liked the remix Eggman, I tried my best to change things up every few measures! 💎
@Equalyze3 жыл бұрын
Dude, I freaking LOVE this remix! I've been listening to it a few times a week since you posted it, and it's become one of my go-to songs when I'm looking for something high-energy and exciting. I'm really digging the blend between grungy hardcore rock, electronic, and chiptune styles. They're all melded together perfectly, and it literally brings the best of all worlds together - you've got the killer drums and distortion guitar, modern synths and retro-bit goodness all in one! And I know it's tough to pair real-sounding instruments with synthetic ones and still have it sound cohesive, but you've accomplished just that! Before anything else, I gotta mention those DRUMS! I know you always put a ton of work into your drums and percussion specifically, and the beats you've created here sound like they're the product of many hours of work. Not only are the beats cool and complex, but there's an assortment of different rhythms and instrumentations here. For instance, in some sections, the rhythm is driven by a fast hi hat pattern, and in others, you have the beat being led by the kick and snare. Oh, and by the way, that snare sounds TIGHT! It hits super hard and has this crazy industrial sound to it, which is really fitting for this kind of remix. And then there are sections where the drums are dropped completely, and they act as nice pattern-breakers to reset the energy and allow the other parts to feature for a bit. But when those drums breaks occur (such as at 3:19), it only makes me want to hear _more_ of them! Oooh, and that tambourine (😁) sneaking into the ends of phrases to add a bit of extra brightness and energy - too good! Also, my single favorite percussive detail has to be that quick drum fill at 2:13, which kinda sounds like a quick barrage of shots - that's just straight-up fire right there, on multiple levels. As I mentioned, the instrumentation here is off-the-wall! Among others, you've got electric guitars, synths up the wazoo, retro chip sounds, and even piano it sounds like. And man, those 8-bit synths are putting in work, with all those quick arpeggios and syncopated rhythms. Just entering in the sheer number of notes alone must have been an endeavor in of itself! It was a really cool idea to have the hardcore rock elements act as supporting parts, to really let the chippy stuff take the spotlight. And I can't get enough of that rhythm in the distortion guitar, especially in certain parts like at 2:08, for instance. I would have loved to see your process with the guitars especially, because that's one of the (many) areas in music where I feel like I have no clue what I'm doing. I just kinda use good ol' guess-and-check to see what sounds halfway decent when trying to come up with supporting rhythm guitar parts. 😅 But yeah, I anticipate having some more time when summer break rolls around, and I hope to be able to catch one of your music streams then! Another detail I especially like here is that transitional sound effect you're using - which kinda sounds like a jet plane taking off - first heard at 0:34. It's super intense, and it really works well for this remix, with the pure speed and energy you have going on throughout the piece. It's an unwieldy sound for sure, but if ever there was a remix to use it in, this one is it! Overally, the flow of this piece is superb, and all of the different sections segue into each other seamlessly. Instrumentally, this is probably my favorite VGM remix of yours to date. And I'm loving the game footage to accompany the music. I always wanted to get the Mega Man Battle Network games as a kid, and really, there was nothing stopping me, but I think the 3x3 grid style of battling - paired with the fact that it seemed so different from the Mega Man X series - seemed off-putting to me at the time. But now, that's a system I think I'd really enjoy, having played a game with a similar layout: Radiant Historia. (such a good game, and with an amazing soundtrack by the way). Seeing your gameplay footage really makes me want to hunt down a copy of the game and give it a try, and I think I'd probably go with the Gregar version - that sounds super bad-@$$! Amazing work, Titan - this is a true blasterpiece! :D
@TitansTracks3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks EQ! It's really good to know that you're enjoying this one! Funny you mention that, I actually tried out a variety of instruments and nothing really stuck together. It was only until I used some of those retro-bit synths that things started to sound a bit more cohesive. The whole soundtrack in these games was chiptune. So I'm like hey why not just use that style!? It worked back then, I'm sure it can work now. The drums were probably the most important part of the track for me. The original had crazy drumming as well, but I tried my best to add in a few extra snares and hits, just to keep things interesting. I went with a more industrial sound to compliment the high energy feeling of the track. Plus it always ties back to variation. I try to switch things up little by little just to keep the track fresh. The drum fill!! Dude you completely understood the intention! I wanted to "mimic" the sound of fast firing shots because that's what the battles are like 85% of the time. Plus I took some inspiration from fighting games, with their high energy, fast hitting snare patterns. I'm glad you picked up on that one, it's probably my favourite part of the track. It's so stupidly simple yet it works!! You can thank the original composers for that, when I first heard those arpeggiated notes I was like DAAAMN! Those tiny little blips really work well when you arpeggiate them, they have an almost rising/falling aesthetic to them. Yet there a little out of place so it's not just a flat up/down pattern. I decided to keep them as 8-bit synths, simply because of how well it works. Plus I was surprised at how it sounded with the light piano in the back. I guess in the original you don't really hear all those background instruments playing out. Maybe it's the GBA speaker or maybe it's me, but switching out those quieter parts with different instruments really adds another layer to the music. I mean I can't take all the credit for these compositions. In fact a lot of them are already transcribed by some really talented individuals on the KHinsider / vgmusic sites. The main thing I did, was break up there compositions for each instrument, into smaller 8 bar chunks. It's a bit boring and tedious but it gives me much more control over the overall arrangement of the track. That distortion guitar is actually really easy to do! All you need to do is reduce Attack and Release on it. No Attack so it plays immediately, High Decay so it plays the full sound, High Sustain so it plays at full volume and No Release so it never trails off. This way you can rapidly trigger the notes and they'll just cut each other off and never feedback into each other. It's a bit subjective though, you could also reduce the Decay so it stops short of the full sample. This works really well if you want to use a bunch of notes in rapid succession. With that being said, I think you're going about it the right way. It's all about the "guess-and-check" because at the end of the day it's about what sounds good to you! We all have our own way of making music / remixing. So long as you are enjoying the process of making it, and willing to experiment around, you'll pick up many fun new techniques. I would love to show you sometime on stream how I go about my process... If I ever get back into streaming my music ahahah. Blender has slowly taken over my streams, until I come up with a proper schedule 🤣 That little jetplane sound is starting to creep into a lot of my other stuff as well. I may just drop music and start making airplane sfx 😆 For real though I'm glad you like the overall flow of this one, I'd be lying if I said I didn't work hard on this one. MMBN was a huge part of my childhood, I loved almost everything about the game. The music, the battling, the little card collecting stuff. Yep everything except the story - I seriously hate the main character. The kid's named LAN - Local Area Network! You're telling me this guys dad named his kid after an ethernet cable!? Jokes aside, it's pretty generic, slice of life, friendship solves everything kind of story. I mean I guess it's made for kids and not 28 year old men but I digress! It was one of my favourite tracks from the series so I wanted to make sure it sounded just as hard hitting as the original! Oh dude tell me about it, a lot of people passed on the BN series. It was really different at the time compared to the rest of the series, not to mention the games had a really slow startup. I didn't get into it until 3, and that was mainly because I saw you could change element's / colors. In other words, I didn't really like the card collecting / chip system as a kid. It was really confusing and really I just wanted to shoot stuff. But I can highly recommend the game after playing through it again. There is a lot of stuff to do in these games, extra bosses, new rare chips to collect etc. Plus the chip system is really in depth. You can pull of some pretty sick combos and just wipe the field in an instant. I'm gonna have to look into that Radiant Historia game. If they have a similar layout to these BN games, then I'm sure I'll get into them. Plus if they have a good soundtrack then I'm there! Thanks for the detailed reply as always EQ, It's always fun to read through these and come up with a response that matches the quality. Makes me feel like I'm writing a novel or like I'm some sort of editor in a newspaper! 💎

And I mean, yeah, I could just as easily write these comments on some other social media platform, but my hope is to highlight some of the cool details that you include in your music, so other people reading the comments might pick up on them a bit more. Thanks for the tips in regards to creating that specific guitar sound! I anticipate that my July remix is actually going to feature electric guitar pretty heavily, so the timing couldn't have been better. :) And from what you've explained, Mega Man Battle Network is seeming like a more appealing prospect all the time! I feel like the GBA cartridges will be pretty hard to find now, but maybe there's an anniversary collection available or something. Also, I'm glad I got you intrigued with my mention of Radiant Historia! I don't know how similar it is to the MMBN games, but I will say that it has a really compelling story, in addition to likable characters, and of course amazing battle mechanics. It was originally for Nintendo DS, but I think they remade it for Nintendo Switch recently, with the added subtitle "Perfect Chronology". And hey, like you said, if you can't make it in the remix business, I'm sure there's a market for weapon and aircraft sound effects! Heck, you could create your own VSTitan! 😂 ... No, but in all sincerity, I really hope you continue to make music for as long as it interests you. Your stuff just keeps getting better and better, for real. Stay motivated, my friend! 🔥
