I dont like how later model tapes had the tape remain on the VCR head. It erodes the tape faster and also ruins the head. All of them did it...Panasonic as well.

They did this because these decks need less parts! Less parts mean less productioncosts.

@@vvm2004 Ah makes complete sense, less moving parts. Thank you. I have a VR6483, in really good physical condition, but when I turned it on the unit wants move and click, but then it can't and turns itself off. I want to either get a mint VR 6483 from Germany or get belts replaced. Do you know if I can do either? U seem to have a lot of knowledge of VCRs and Philips ones.

@@Shamsithaca I don't know the VR6483. Maybe you can make a video of it. Maybe just with cover removed too. 😉

Ok I will do that over the weekend. I would really appreciate your help on it. the VR 6443 and the VR6483 looks exactly the same (I have both) except the VR6483 is multisystem. Back in the day when I was a kid the 6443 would make a loud double clicking noise when the rewind was finished, as part of normal function, not sure what engineering function it actually served.@@vvm2004

@@Shamsithaca Thanks for the info about the VR6483. I looked into the servicemanual of the VR6443 and the deck corresponds more to the VR6943: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5OVgnWtndGHndU

Zeitschrift Video 07/2003: SONY = SAMSUNG, JVC = LG, PHILIPS = Funai, Thomson = Daewoo.
