Yes Dennis Atkinson in the multi-coloured Porsche comes from Millthorpe in Cumbria where he has a garage. He started in Minis & moved on to Escorts! Then there is Orjen Wahlund in the VW Beetle who comes from Moste in Sweden who doesn't travel much out of Sweden due to finances. Murray really did his research in the pits/paddock area.

£200k is only half the battle. You need to be able to drive it as well. Contrast the subsequent fortunes of Terje Schie, the buyer of that 205, with those of Matti Alamaki, who swapped from his Delta into a Peugeot for 1988 and swept all before him.

@christianponicki95814 жыл бұрын
That's actually a pretty good deal. IIRC, a wimpy, modern GT3-style car can run $500k-750k, and junior-level prototypes like LMP2/3 have a similar price. For a top-tier rally car of the day, $480k is a damn good price.

Different regulations, with different (lesser) restrictions on engines/turbos etc. Plus of course, rallycross engines were stressed for much shorter periods of time (average 5min race or thereabouts) so could be pushed to more extreme tolerances, I'd say.
