I purchased this Vst the other day and I'm really pleased with it, I have most of the piano programs on the market including Keyscape/ravenscroft/noire/pianoteq and many more , this to me is extremely well balanced through out the keyboard with regards to sound and velocity, Its a beautiful piano vst and now I want the Modern u.

Let me ask you for you what it’s the best ( or the bests)..I have also noire,pianoteq,pianoverse, etc,but I’m allways something new and I would like to know what is you’re opinion,by the way I don’t have any VSL that are very ,very good but very expensive…well any way thank for you’re opinion about this ….A

@@pinheiroartur3020 I love this Modern D. I also really love VSL bluthner, I tried VSL 280d but wasn't overly impressed. I've had pianoteq since it originally came out but I don't thinks it's comparable to Modern D. I like keyscape for it's variety but it doesn't have all the pedal facilities or resonance which is a shame. I haven't got pianoverse but I'm considering it but don't like idea of pianos in space or on the beach and it makes me feel it's a gimmick vst but I'm hoping I'm wrong.. Noire is decent but my favourite is Modern D and vsl's offerings

I was waiting for a really good go to piano library that could inspire me to get back to learn the piano and I think that this is it!. Ah! and let's not forget that in order to use it you don't have to expend a LOT of money for the sampler...as this uses the free UVI workstation. Special thanks to the presenter, Mr. Charles, as the information that he provided in the video is deep and clear. Brilliant!

Thanks for this review! I have the Ravenscroft 275 and I just added this to the library. I absolutely adore the clarity of the Ravenscroft on my headphones (Beyer dt880), however they lose some of the personalness for me when played through my speakers (Neumann KH80s). This piano doesn't necessarily replace the "personalness" aspect for me, but the warmth and player experience through the speakers is the best from any VST I have tried so far (lots!)

@adrielboteАй бұрын
How was it a change changer? Genuinely asking… 🙏🏽 Ravenscroft275 is my goto as well! What difference do you see in this new library that is better than R275?
@smyrnian_Ай бұрын
@@adrielbote Sure. For me, it's about the level of tonal control to allow me to create a whole bunch of diverse piano sounds. This is many years newer tech than R275 with more parameters and finer detail in everything. Also, they've really gone to so much sampling detail (e.g. separate una corda samples, continuous pedal controls, etc). Having said that, the R275 still holds it's own! I feel the R275 was way ahead of it's time and STILL has a unique unmatched clarity that even this Modern D doesn't quite have. I would still use R275 more for jazz, soul, blues and Modern D would take over for classical, film, and other general work, especially experimental piano sounds. I sure hope VI Labs updates the R275 with some of the Modern D's new parameters.

Excellent video, thank you. The problem I have with velocity curves, is that I don’t know how the actual instrument is supposed to sound, So how do I know where to set the velocity curve? I have a Roland RD 88 which seems to me to have a fairly heavy key bed, but that doesn’t help me know how much I should adjust the curve. I wish they would come with instrument specific curves like keyscape.
@vilabsaudio23 күн бұрын
The Modern D responds closest to the piano that was sampled when used with the default linear velocity curves. Adjusting these curves is done to taste, even with instrument specific curves there can be some subjectivity. Our beta tester @RabihRihana has the RD-88 EX and recommends our 'Light Touch 1' MIDI preset, which we've found also works well with Roland's PHA-50 action.

Yes, at least to my ears. You can watch me play a Debussy prelude and you'll hear the dynamic range. According to the promotional, some keys even have over 50 DB of dynamic range. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4u3mHese7hgq80

Hey there! I’m the guy in the video so I figured I’d chime in with a response since I also own the Ravenscroft … based on sound and my perception, the Modern D has a *massive* dynamic range. Yes it’s larger than the Ravenscroft and truly it sounds/plays/records like a real acoustic 9’ piano.
@davidlai1996Ай бұрын
@@CharlesSzczepanek I also have recorded a few demos, like Charles, and what he says is 100% correct. I'm sure as a classically trained musician, you know how it feels to play an instrument as dynamic as a New York D. And this piano library gives you exactly that, and, as far as I'm concerned, it's now my only piano VST besides the Modern U that's still on my laptop!
@ludenspal704Ай бұрын
@@CharlesSzczepanek not that the Ravenscroft lacks that much, still, this Modern D weighs around 18GB vs 6GB for the Ravenscroft
@CharlesSzczepanekАй бұрын
@@ludenspal704 yeah, the Ravenscroft still outperforms tons of libraries out there, and it’s astonishing that it does it with only 6GB. To my ears, it’s the change in tonal color that the Modern D has that make it sound so real… and changes like that really require a LOT of velocity layers. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Modern D had twice as many as the Ravenscroft… plus the different sympathetic resonances, better release and staccato samples, and 5 mic choices instead of three… I’m actually surprised the library is ONLY 18GB.
@winterheatАй бұрын
Now I agree your Ravenscroft 275 VST was well made, but your UVI Keys: Italian, American, and German had some glitches, so I constantly cannot use them. I think you need to remake some of those and give to the existing users free of charge. By the way, isn't the Modern D basically UVI American or German? You can guess I am not that happy to pay $349 for those and not able to use them, and now have to pay another $200 for the Modern D
@vilabsaudioАй бұрын
If you have those issues with True Keys (not UVI), please contact our support for assistance. Yes we may do a full update for all True Keys Pianos at some point. And no, the Modern D is entirely new in every way including a different new piano. Also, we are VI Labs, not UVI, although we use the UVI Workstation as our sample engine.
