Destruction is easy; no one could build like that nowdays

Walked over the viaduct the night B4 it was demolished. It was on the Royal Deeside Line 1 1/2 miles West of Torphins (where my folks live) & the railway was closed under the Beeching report back in the late 60's. What a shame it wasn't preserved (& the railway too 4 that matter) usual UK shortsightedness!

Yes, it is a shame but I guess BR/Rail Network didn't want to pay for the upkeep of a viaduct not being used.

Vandalism, such nice arches.

That God we have the preservation societies that save our heritage. The philystines destroy anything these days. Beautiful Victorian structures, no skill today to build anything as beautiful.

Presumably an old railway viaduct: why was it being demolished to start with? I wonder, given how easily it's coming down, just how safe a condition it was in. When was this done? If nothing else, at least the job was done efficiently!
@neilgauld28175 жыл бұрын
Easy to come down thats a granite rock breaker! The only reason it came down as no one would pay to maintain it in the future ! They were fined £30.000 They almost killed the camera man efficiently

The strength is in the arch, when you remove the centre stones from the arch then it comes crashing down.

So all your life have you lived and are you still living in that area? Did you ever actually see a train go across the viaduct? I also believe they did try to raise money to save the viaduct. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne in England.I have visited Scotland but not the Balnacraig area. If you are Scottish, have you ever been to visit England?

I take it you were born in 1976, so you would have been 13 in 1989. 7 seconds into the video, are you the lad furthest away from the land rover? I guess at 44-45 seconds, you are not the lad with red on his jacket. Also do you have a precise date for this video?
