To me, the best part of this cover is the chord change after "never gonna let you go". In the original, it returns to the major home chord, but this version goes with a minor chord. It adds a brief sense of foreboding to the track, as if there is a momentary sense of doubt, a sense that this "dream" relationship is doomed to fail. It's subtle; it's completely on brand for the Viagra Boys - and it's brilliant.
@ryanmcqueen35762 жыл бұрын

@Ohsnapzdawg23 күн бұрын
A love song about togetherness is what the lyrics would indicate. However, the tone of the original, as well as this song, tell a different story. The lyrics reference an idiom that goes "cut your nose to spite your face", which basically means to harm yourself in order to punish someone else. This was never a love song. I would say that its about the last stages of a failing relationship where both partners are trying desperately to keep it together, but know that it will never work.

I'm blown away by Amy Taylor's country drawl. Who'd have thought that the current queen of hardcore punk had an inner Patsy Cline?

Found this song because I like Sleaford Mods. Watched their song "Nudge It" featuring Amy Taylor. Started checking out Amyl and the Sniffers songs, and then came across this golden nugget! I watched it once a couple weeks ago, and now I've watched it probably 100 times. It's my new favorite song; it starts playing in my head before I open my eyes in the morning!

Such a beauty of a song. Love Viagra Boys and Amyl and the Sniffers. Easily my favorite bands of the last few years. You can play this on repeat forever

I’m not sure when or how I came across this video but I immediately fell in love with it and both Amyl and Viagra boys all in one move.

Love that moody Chris Isaak-esque guitar. It's killer. Mixed with this John Prine, B-52s kitsch, and watermark stock video. I'm in, dude.

Really didn’t expect this - a cover version of John Prine. And a really good one. It has a Viagra Boys sense of hanging on tight for when everything spins out of control, which it does. And I like the not giving a fuck about Getty images. Good lads. Love it.
