Honestly, for a GYW boot I would prob go Truman/Parkhurst/granstone. The QC is very close for viberg, but it’s probably 50% of the cost. If you’re buying Viberg, go for the full Monty and get the stichdown boot. All the PNW brands take real time to select the best parts of hides. It’s part of the costs you pay for. For example I have seen Wolverine 1000 miles with lots of loose grain. They just make them faster, use automated processes to cut the hides.

My two pairs of stitchdown Parkhursts are beautifully clicked with very pretty creasing. Their value is amazing right now, I would still love to see a more professional comparison between them and Viberg because to my eye they are very equal and the Parkhursts are prettier.

Agreed on going all in. Viberg does do some details above and beyond those other brands, do depends what you value, but yeah, Parkhurst and Grant Stone are hard to beat for QC and value. Truman hide "clicking" is automated, and I get the labor cutting measure, but have heard of and seen pairs I wouldn't be happy with.

Good review, I have the Viberg 2030 in Black French Calf, probably wore maybe 2 dozen times, and find the heel/back stay a bit too tight, but quality is unmatched. Everyone's feet are different, and people need to find the last the works best for their feet. In my case in order.. no. 8 Last Iron Rangers, GS Leo Last, and these 3 are tied..Truman 79 last, Whites MP, and Viberg 2030. Thursdays dead last..I have 23 pairs of boots, and I wear my Red Wings the most.

My pair of Viberg stitchdown service boots in natural CXL has the nicest CXL of any of my boots. Thick, luxurious, very fine break, and no loose grain anywhere. For me this 2030 last fits perfectly. Beautiful boots.

In terms of sizing here in Canada, I never ran into UK standards until I started buying quality leather boots, starting with Viberg. I sold them about ten years ago as the 2030 last was absolutely wrong for my paddles. I since stumbled onto Canada West who have a line called Moorby which is astounding value in a GYW boot. The last used for most of this line is what I’d consider Munson style with a fairly broad forefoot and tighter heel. I love the fit and finish and recommend them.

Very nice thickness on the midsole, wish Alden would pick up on that ;). Good point on cxl, they should use loose grain on harder parts of the boot like heels and toebox that don't flex so much to be it less noticeable.

Honestly I had a pair of Stitch down Vibergs for a small amount of time. In Australia they sold for $900 AUD (650 USD) at the start of the year, only to rocket to $1400 a few months later... Which is insane money. Mine was a veg tan leather from Maryam and yes it did have loose grain. I decided to move it on due to the last not quite fitting quite right. Vibergs 2030 E I feel is not quite a full sized E (which I required). I moved it on and got some MTO Indonesian boots which were a fraction of the cost, better clicking and have insane stitching and construction. I do love the look of the 2030 last, but alas they don't really fit my feet.

What's "worth" the price? Opinions vary. It's all perception. Are Alden worth it? Are 1000 Mile Boots worth it? What about Allen Edmonds and Red Wings? Who gets $100K worth of leather, plastic, and metal when they buy a car? My Florsheim have Horween Chromexcel and sell for about five Jacksons.
