Do you have vibrato exercises for positions leading to thumb position and on thumb positions on all strings ?
@DrMarkMorton4 жыл бұрын
You basically do the same thing in the "crook of the neck register" and thumb position register, and on harmonics. I may come out with a video explaining the mechanics of how to do vibrato in each of those registers...

I have found that i cannot go past a "normalish" speed. I'm assuming that the more you practice and train your muscles, your muscles will be eventually be controlled enough to start going faster? Also, I tend to struggle with vib in passages that move between notes and with louder dynamics. (For instance, I struggle with the accented half notes in Ein Heldenleben 9.)

Don't worry about getting above the normalish speed - it is better to master a good, slow to moderate speed vibrato first. My Vibrato - Scales Exercise in Torturous exercises is a good one for practicing continuous vibrato when changing notes.

Great book also great vibrato exercise. One of the best vibratos ever IMHO comes from the violinist David Oistrakh. Bravo Professor

When doing 4th finger vibrato, do you keep all the other fingers down and vibrate, or do you raise the other fingers up and just have the 4th one down and vibrate? Ive been wondering this for a while EDIT: Btw this video is super helpful because Im a bassist but my teacher is a violist who only knows a little bass so this is sooooooooo helpful thank you

I suggest to depress the string with the 4th and 3rd fingers right beside each other, with 1 & 2 lifted slightly away from the string.

Is there any romantic music for the Double bass? (Beethoven, perhaps?)
@DrMarkMorton4 жыл бұрын
Beethoven did not write any solo music for the double bass, however, there are a number of Romantic composers that did. Most notably is Giovanni Bottesini. Check out my CD "Bottesini's Greatest Hits!"
