This will be a great option for small amounts and sample pcs if you are in a hurry coupled with a food dehydrator. I bought a Frankford Arsenal large wet tumbler a year ago. It holds about 1000 .223 plus pins. If you do large quantities, it's worth it. Thanks for another option!

I purchased a 5 lb bag of 100% pure citric acid on Amazon. Lemi-shine is only about 85%. All you need is enough to fill a .45 ACP case. You'll have enough citric acid powder to last a long time.

If you remove the all-thread lid hold down from your FrankfordArsenal tumbler, you can set a three gallon water jug right in it. The jugs that go onto the water coolers. A towel between them helps control the vibratory action. Brass will vibrate around in a circle at the bottom of the jug. Use a large sieve to strain out brass when done. Cookie sheet works great for drying them with a hot plate and a small fan. Much bigger capacity then what you're doing there.Get both going at the same time even better.

I made a rotay wet tumbler with a windshield wiper motor and one of those thermos jugs. Works great. I will post a video sometime. I also use pins. I have some SS pins I bought...I also bought some SS wire and cliped it into pins...AND us took some zinc plated wire and clipped it into pins...then tumbled them in some diluted muriatic acid. That made a hard black zinc oxide coating on them that keeps them from rusting. I also took some regular bb gun bb's and ran them in the same muriatic acid ...they are too big to get the primer pockets but do a pretty good job of cleaning...Also if you use a little armorall wash n wax car wash in the water (with the lemishine) it keeps the brass from gettin oxidized over time. They stay shiny.

Wet tumbling is definitely the way to go. No more dealing with dry media dust in the air, full of lead and powder residue. The brass looks like new. I sprang for the Frankford Arsenal rotary tumbler with stainless steel pins. It works great, but if you are ok with the primer pockets not getting super clean, there is nothing at all wrong with Elvis' method. I still use my vibratory tumbler regularly - but not for cleaning dirty brass. I use it to take case lube off of newly made 9mm ammo (yes, I know you don't need to lube cases when you have carbide dies; but it make re-sizing the brass SO much smoother that I do it anyway). I use (and re-use) corn cob media and tumble about 300 rounds at a time for about 5 or 10 minutes and it takes all of the lube off.

Good one man, you're always coming up with new ways to use old stuff haha. I never did the dry vibratory tumbling of brass method after hearing about elevated lead levels from the primer dust from indoor gun ranges, I figured the dry tumbler would do the same.... so I dont have one lying around to put to use haha. I usually use a Lee decapping die and deprime everything. Then it all goes to the 2-drum Harbor Freight wet tumbler. Then each drum gets stainless steel pins, a 5cc or 7cc Lee scoop of Lemishine, a cap full of vinegar and fill a half inch within the water line with hot water. The rest to the line is dollar store dish soap. Yes its more than you use, but its the end results that count haha. If you use too much Lemishine, it turns the brass pink - which is actually leeching the zinc out of the brass, which I'd guess is weakening the brass to an extent.The brass comes out shiny new, but the point of that is it makes it alot easier policing semi auto brass. The shine makes it alot easier to find - especially if you shoot close to sundown which is my favorite time to shoot :)

I've vibratory dry tumbled for years (30 or more) but just recently picked up the Frankford arsenal wet tumbler and did about 4000 rounds of 9mm in it in two batches using the frankford aresanal cleaner with a splash of dish soap and the pins and I have never had cleaner brass, I own 2 of the lyman tumblers like you have on the video and I don't think they will ever be used again, the wet tumbling might be a bit spendy to get started at but it is worth every cent and then some, no improvised wet tumbling method or vibratory dry method comes anywhere remotely close to as good and easy as wet tumbling with the right equiptment,,,,just bite the bullet get a good wet tumbler such as the Frankford aresanal and the case drier from the same and their rotary media seperator along with the pin retriever magnet, it's what I finnaly did,,,,spendy (about 400$ all total) yes but I wish the hell I wouldn't have dicked around this long before just doing so.

Forced to agree here 100%. Caught one on sell at midway, got the Lite. Gave thought to just selling my vibe tumblers altogether. The only pita is separating the ss pins from the cases, and drying the cases without the water spots here and there (yes of course it can be done). You have to separate the media either wet or dry I reckon. You'll get stray media here or there and in a primer pocket either way. You don't put any (minor) dust up in the air wet tumbling, and more compact stowage. My FA Lite doesnt "walk" all over the place like my lyman vibe, but it is just as loud in a diff kinda way. I'm a cheapo, but man, night and day difference. Even wet tumbling without the pins the brass is still cleaner than any other method I've seen. You dont need clean brass to reload, but if its important to you, spend the $120.
@looseballs1966
@looseballs1966 2 жыл бұрын
@@herrcobblermachen I got the full size FA and it's great (about 2000 rounds of 9mm at a shot in it),,,as far as water spots go I have not seen a single one in about 8000 rounds of this and that I've run through mine, I use a generous amount of the FA brand brass cleaner (got a 32 ounce bottle of it and should last a LONGGGG time) and a splash of dawn dish soap, 2000 rounds of 9mm and let it tumble for a full 3 hours with pins (the 5 pounds it comes with), when it's done tumbling I pour the whole mess into the FA rotory seperator (the one with the top ) and carefully dump out the dirty water (it has a screen to keep from loosing pins in one of the top corners) then I fill it way up with clean water (there is a fill to mark ) then crank the handles on the tumble drum for a bit, remove the drum of the seperator and set it in the lid and drain the dirty water again rinse the pins well and use the FA recovery magnet to put all the pins back in the tumbler, put the seperator drum full of brass back into the seperator base and more clean water and spin it a bit more, then I took an old bath towel and folded it in half to form a sort of towel bag, I put all the wet brass into my towel bag hold it shut and sort of shake and work the wet brass around in it, that mostly dries the brass (nearly 90% anyhow) then into the FA brass drier machine for 2 full hours on 160 (as high as it goes),,,and even some VERY VERY ugly mulitple time reloaded brass that hadn't been cleaned in a couple loadings is as clean as brand new inside and out, and I have yet to have a pin end up stuck in a primer pocket or flash hole and break a decapper on my Dillon in 3000 rounds I just got done running ( the first of which after switching to wet tumbling) (I use a seperate press with a universal decapper to deprime before cleaning because I like VERY clean brass inside and out, my press setup is to freakin expensive to run dirty crap brass through it0 anyhow long winded but my results are REALLY good and I just felt like putting it out there to maybe help a fellow reloader,,,take care my friend.

Coming from someone who has a lot of experience with tumbling parts. I always prefer a rotary rock type tumbler over vibratory tumblers. Just a personal preference. Use a small fine rock type media, always use water and always use a few drops of Dawn dish washing soap. Mainly because soap is a wetting agent. Just my opinion from years of experience. 😁☕️

First, I clean my range pickup brass in a ultrasonic cleaner with a PH level around 3. Not much below 3 as will start to dissolve the zinc and leave a pink, copper look to them. Might weaken the case, but not sure. Usually due to the variety of cases, I leave them in the ultrasonic cleaner for about 4 hours. My ultrasonic cleaner is polish small and not very powerful, so this works well. Upon air, or oven drying, then they go into a MJR rotary tumbler with Harbor Freight course walnut and NU-Finish car polish. NU-Finish car polish has no ammonia which can make brass brittle! Depends on the overall look of the cases out of the ultrasonic cleaner, I usually tumble for about 4 hours. I have a timer for all of my equipment so I turn it on and forget about it or go to bed and let it work away! My nickel cases, all times are cut by 75% to prevent losing the nickel coating. MJR Tumblers are industrial rock wet tumblers but also work excellently with dry media with the car wax added. Mine holds about 800 45 ACP cases at a time. When done, my cases look brighter and nicer than new!!! Flash holes are pretty clean and I get very little dirt when reloading as I do not pull primers before starting the process. When I do pull primers, the flash holes come very clean and look like the case never has been shot. The NU-Finish car polish gives them a nice wax coating that helps with carbide dies and go through easily even when full length sizing. Rifle and pistol cases come out clean and the wax finish helps prevent them from tarnishing quickly and look like newly manufactured brass a year later. Works well for me and everyone that sees my reloads ask where I bought the new cases. MSgt David R. Smyth, USAF, Ret.

Thanks Elvis ... I've upvoted 100s of times but don't comment enough. Well done, God Bless you. Yeah, I do this too sometimes using the Lyman bucket/bowl. You need to break-away from Patreon ... they're communist.

Maybe you can send us a list of businesses that are not communist! We live in a sad world! We have been given a lot of great things just so that they can threaten to take them away from us if we don’t comply, how sad. I promise to use any money that I receive for things that they all hate!. I’m a little confused but I fight like the devil!!! I could write pages on the subject…. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Out of curiosity, what happens if you use too much lemishine? You didn’t complete your thought and know I gotta know😄

Your brass will turn brown to black depending on how much you use and how long it's in the solution. All acidic solutions remove a thin layer of the surface. Some take away more copper leaving the brown to black and some will remove more nickel leaving your brass a pretty rose color.

Also wanted to let you know. I just took my FA tumbler apart. The bowl is actually sealed already. After they put the nut in the center they must heat seal it in place.

Just buy a Sonic cleaner. I've tried everything to see what cleans the best. Takes 15 mins and pockets are best u ever seen. I'm using the same cleaning supplies you're using. Shake them in a towel an let them dry little more an done.

Yeah, that’s what I do shake them in a towel. Lay them out with a fan, set them in the sun, or just let them dry. I’ll have to look into that…👍👍👍👍

The one thing I hate the most about cleaning brass is primer pockets. If it doesn't clean the primer pocket, it's not for me. Rotary tumblers with stainless steel pins do the trick. I run the cases in Dawn dishwashing soap and lemoshine for about an hour.
