Man...this video really represents the zeitgeist of the culture going on in Chicago at the time. I was in high school then, and Acid Rap was fresh and everyone was listening to it almost everywhere people met up. Just about every smoke sesh people would be talking about it and/or listening to it. Then Chance played at The Grove stage at Lolla that summer, probably one of the most overpacked shows at that stage ever, with people fainting and shit. Anyways, Chance, Vic, Tokyo Shawn, everyone from Kids These Days, Nico Segal, etc. All these people came up at the same time in the same city, taking part in and contributing to the music scene that existed at the time, and by extension, represented youth culture as it was in Chicago. Chilling, smoking, and drinking on rooftops, back porches or wherever you could with friends, friends of friends, and even people you don't know; all while listening to the music of the artists aforementioned. You can call that a party I guess, but around that time, things were still so chill, Snapchat and Instagram hadn't consumed everyone by that point, and people were just chill, idk how else to put it lol. If you were growing up in Chicago at that time, hopefully you know what I mean. In short, the incredible energy, positivity, and creativity of the music coming out of this scene at that time is in my opinion what gave rise to the fame and recognition that most of the artists mentioned received in the years following this relatively short zeitgeist in Chicago.

yes this went all the way to the suburbs. Chicago really just be in its own world.

You perfectly described that era. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but it’s so sad to see how their careers changed. They had the hip hop world by the balls, and still managed to let it slip through their grasp by 2016ish. They were pumping out classic music early on, and ended settled for mediocrity and main stream sounds. So sad 😕
@rudysinz97694 жыл бұрын
that scene helped take out the negative look Chicago had because of the drill scene. It showed the other side of Chicago that outsiders (like my self) can tune in and see that it’s not just kill kill in Chicago there’s a whole indigo culture there just like New York
