Man...this video really represents the zeitgeist of the culture going on in Chicago at the time. I was in high school then, and Acid Rap was fresh and everyone was listening to it almost everywhere people met up. Just about every smoke sesh people would be talking about it and/or listening to it. Then Chance played at The Grove stage at Lolla that summer, probably one of the most overpacked shows at that stage ever, with people fainting and shit. Anyways, Chance, Vic, Tokyo Shawn, everyone from Kids These Days, Nico Segal, etc. All these people came up at the same time in the same city, taking part in and contributing to the music scene that existed at the time, and by extension, represented youth culture as it was in Chicago. Chilling, smoking, and drinking on rooftops, back porches or wherever you could with friends, friends of friends, and even people you don't know; all while listening to the music of the artists aforementioned. You can call that a party I guess, but around that time, things were still so chill, Snapchat and Instagram hadn't consumed everyone by that point, and people were just chill, idk how else to put it lol. If you were growing up in Chicago at that time, hopefully you know what I mean. In short, the incredible energy, positivity, and creativity of the music coming out of this scene at that time is in my opinion what gave rise to the fame and recognition that most of the artists mentioned received in the years following this relatively short zeitgeist in Chicago.

You perfectly described that era. Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but it’s so sad to see how their careers changed. They had the hip hop world by the balls, and still managed to let it slip through their grasp by 2016ish. They were pumping out classic music early on, and ended settled for mediocrity and main stream sounds. So sad 😕

that scene helped take out the negative look Chicago had because of the drill scene. It showed the other side of Chicago that outsiders (like my self) can tune in and see that it’s not just kill kill in Chicago there’s a whole indigo culture there just like New York

what is selling out? signing with a label or switching his style? honestly I'd rather have him on Jay-Z team than anyone else. and his new music is more on shit he been thru and police corruption. homie just opened up his mind and realized how fucked up the world is. I think he just gotta vent out all that shit and maybe hopefully he'll make some classic music like this. I don't see him as a sellout though. sometimes when you vent, that's the shit that gets you poppin', that's the, "oh he speaking real shit now!" i'ma remain a fan of Vic man, dude's incredible.

Corey Hill if you listen to enough of their music, you'd see that hey have similarities. I won't go as far to say they sound exactly alike but sometimes they mimic each other. Either way they make good music so who really cares?

“Fell in love when I was 15 I guess you can call it tennis…” took me almost 10 years to catch that BAR💯

@@charliebrownsconscience8775 alright so in tennis when your opponent has 0 they call it “love” and each serve is worth 15 points… the bar is wordplay using tennis terminology

He should have stayed right in this pocket. Good vibes, environment, etc. Now he's a victim of the industry and the demons of Hollywood

+Treezy9866 no its not. He is simply changing his style at the moment. He went through a very hard time in his life and he is showing it through his music. He is the most versatile artist out there, just wait, his music will sound like this again at some point.

True vic fans know him for this style. Sad that the world didn't recognise this. He had to change in order to make it and that suks. But i support him and his change of flow and identity. U gotta do it if u want to eat. Hope he still drops ish like this from time to time though.
