So is he a good mathematician? every video I've watched on Daniel they just mention his ability to memorise phi to thousands of decimal places. that's a great achievement and amazing skill, but has he been able to accomplish anything as a mathematician?

Daniel Tammet should have been able to conduct this conversation in Spanish since he is only talking about himself and has done this type of interview many times. He claims to speak 10 languages, including Spanish, and has sold an online Spanish course for years.

That was the book's (Moonwalking with Einstein) one misstep. I trust the scientific community vs a journalist trying to sell his own book.
@mirzhanirkegulov3966
@mirzhanirkegulov3966 5 жыл бұрын
@@13Knives1 "misstep" lol, did you just lift this word verbatim from Alexandra Horowitz article? There is no “scientific community” around Daniel Tammet specifically, he's not climate change to have a huge database of evidence. The only scientists who took him seriously were Simon Baron-Cohen's team, but even their claims aren't strong (for example, they accept that savants in general can develop their abilities through mnemonic techniques, see, for example, psycnet.apa.org/record/2007-13790-011). But OK, they gave him a few tests, like the one in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia#Diagnosis, Baron-Cohen claims Tammet does have synesthesia. How do you explain then that every other fMRI Tammet took with other researchers didn't show brain activation in the areas associated with synesthesia? The reason these researchers didn't write “Tammet is a fraud” in these papers is because science deals with uncertainties, so of course the author of, say, doi.org/10.1093%2Fcercor%2Fbhr236, would write something like “well it could be X, but it also could be Y, the results are tentative, more study required”. The fact is that literally every feat Tammet showed throughout his life can be easily learned. Mnemonic techniques allow you to learn arbitrarily long numbers (e.g. digits of pi), Japanese kids can multiply 5-digit numbers in a manner of seconds, there is a formula to calculate day of the week for any date in history. I wouldn't be surprised if Tammet used mnemonic techniques to memorize which color he's supposed to associate with which number. The guy's most likely a fraud, just accept it.

In true Vice fashion, they don't bother to be skeptical. He's a fraud. He's using memory techniques that lots of others do better than him. He just created a fake story to make it interesting. He used to try and make a living teaching people these tricks. When he failed as a memory coach, he came up with the fake savant syndrome story. People who compete in memory competitions have known for a while about him being a fake.

I experience 2 varieties of synesthetic combination...one being that of number/color entities and although the number 10, black to me, is a double digit number, all the others - from zero/transparent thru 9, go as follows: 1 = white 2 = blue 3 = yellow 4 = green 5 = red 6 = orange 7 = purple 8 = banana yellow and 9 = burgundy (go figure) I wonder...as opposed to my straightforward number/color association, does Daniel’s multi-faceted perception (color, texture, movement, vibration, emotion, etc.) indicate a higher IQ, or simply otherwise-directed neurons? I also experience an association between the frequencies possessed by musical notes, and their color. This presents with a REIKY-like escape of energy based on the combinations of color/sound which passes through the 8 digits (sans thumbs) of my fingers. However; whereas the color number association is a static thing, there's a random occurrence and an ebb and flow to the amount of energy and resultant euphoria that comes with my music thing. So...I "get" Daniel. I'm envious of the synesthetic 'serendipity' He must feel as he blithely skips his way down the winding path of pi. I hope his possession of synesthesia yields him happiness, and I hope he's able to experience emotion, love, and integrate them into his singularly unusual life!

@Diego Angel Pues francamente NO.
