As a Chicagoan, I'd say Western is more the backbone of the city. Halsted is more like the jugular. But overall, a cool look at a slice of what is an enormously diverse city. No 22 min documentary can capture the entirety of Chicago, but this is a nice glimpse.

@christopherholloway8999
@christopherholloway8999 9 жыл бұрын
+Emptying my Nine typically (at least in my experience) Chicago natives when talking about corners or general areas say the ordinal street name first. For example: "51st and Blackstone" or "79th and King Drive". I live in the Chatham neighborhood, and I rarely ever hear someone say the name of a street before an ordinal street name, unless there are no ordinal streets, like "Marquette and Vernon"

+Frank Jaegar Chicago is nothing like Detroit. Chicago still thrives, but it is messed up. Chicago has many different neighborhoods. There are a lot of cool places to go pretty much all over the city. You just have to know where to go. Many places in the city are dangerous. If you look like you know where you're going you'll be OK. I do cringe when I see tourists with their guard down. I lived most of my life in Chicago, and I still live in the area. It still amazes me how it thrives in spite of punishing taxes, high crime, corrupt government, etc. It's the people that make it happen.

***** If I don't like it leave? Shallow since I have family and kids here... I'm realistic so I can tell you, I can't IMAGINE living anywhere else, but this city would be PERFECT with: A LOT less government corruption and careless spending, Better school funding and after school programs for minorities(instead of SHUTTING DOWN 110 schools) Take away Cook county Tax, Liqour Tax, Gas Tax and lower taxes to what the SURROUNDING states are, 6.5-7.5. It's funny how this city has it's own economy(corruption) gas prices fluctuate here more then anywhere else in the states AND it's the 7th most expensive city to live in IN THE WORLD! Segregation is HORRIBLE, not socially, economically. This is nowhere near a GOOD city, but honestly to me it's better then Living in Milwaukee!!! Oh and one more thing, I BET YOU'RE WHITE! Albany Park? WHITE! That's why you "Love it here" so much. Privilege is a BITCH, gentrification is a BITCH and systematic racism is a bitch. Oh and I've had this name online before xbox360. Used to play Diablo 2 with it. Please don't go on saying "well go live in india" Or some shit like that, I live HERE I don't need to see other places to know how bad the world is, I feel it everyday. There are places in this city that are damn near second world. NOWHERE in an American city as BIG as Chicago should be second world living. Every side of the city has businesses, indians, chinese, polish, mexicans EXCEPT FOR MOST BLACKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell me that isn't a racial loan issue, PLEASE tell me why most blacks are ghetto and have issues. Only one thing I know comes to mind and that is American History. Rant over.

DEZ n00ts Wow you sound ridiculous. I am not even going to engage in conversation with you. I agree this city has a lot of issues i already said that but i still love this city. And have you ever been to Albany Park? The majority of people that live their are Hispanic, Indian, or Korean. So don't make yourself sound dumb by trying to make this racial or by "guessing" my race based on where i live. Have a good day and enjoy your jaded life by feeling sorry for yourself but not wanting to do anything about it, expect complain.

Native Chicagoan here, and all I've got to say is this is truly one of the greatest cities in the world! I lived in El Paso, TX for 15 months, and I didn't like it. At first it was cool you see the natural beauty of the Franklin Mountains, the desert, etc, but then you find out that although the minimum is $7.25 the cost of living is damn near the same as Chicago well that's when you realize it isn't worth it lol. EP taught me hard work ethic, and how to appreciate my work, but it also made me realize I didn't know what I had until I lost it.

I loved living on N. Lake Shore as a youngster. You could walk from the high rise condo to Halsted for the best hot dogs, pizza and anything you wanted food wise. Chicago's little pockets of communities are like little villages to their own.

They forgot to say that 2 major universities are on Halsted..UIC (the University of Illinois at Chicago) my alma mater and DePaul and no mention of Greek Town or the other great food establishments that are on the Blvd. I remember smelling Jims as our team (women's basketball) would be conditioning for pre-season on the soccer field. This docu has so many incredible memories for me in college. One of my bff;s grew up in the Algaleds Garden's

Wow-you totally left out Greek Town and Englewood! You went thru them to get to Altgeld Gardens, and the up to Save Money Productions, where you flashed the street sign at Halsted/Milwaukee Sts. Not nice.

Ps-63rd/Halsted is NOT a war zone. At the time you filmed, a new Whole Foods and Starbucks were being built. The Greek shops and restaurants didn't even get an honorable mention. #Greektown #Englewood
