Sam - for as much as "they" want you to believe otherwise and as much as it serves their purpose for you to lose hope, you are totally correct to have your faith renewed. Our country is full of great folks, young ambitious patriotic people who care about making the world better, not burning it down. My young nephew Max is a hard charging US Army Combat Engineer Sergeant who loves his country and takes his job very seriously. He doesn't make excuses for himself, he takes care of all the guys in his fire team and his dedication to duty also keeps my hope for the youth of America alive. Yes, things are far from perfect but we both know it's not hopeless, brother.

I found your channel last night and it took me down memory lane. What an awesome video! My grandpa ordered a 1977 F-150 Custom 4x4 in the fall of 1976 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He had a camper on it for 30 years before retiring it as his hunting/camping truck. I am now the steward of this truck and will continue to love it and care for it so I can hopefully pass it on to my grandchildren one day.

I still have my dad's old 57 f100 with the air-cooled auto transmission and 292 y block.. Was the first vehicle I drove and took my driving test in the 80s. Drove it to work when a teenager. He parked it in garden for 25 years. After he passed. I went out to fire it up. Brakes were out. It smokes. Think valve guide seals crumbled away. Trans leaks like a sieve. But it drove out of garden to back of garage. Had more fun in that truck than my Dad knew. 😉 Time to pop in a newer 302 or 351 and Trans. Would like to keep the 292 and air-cooled fmx Trans. But they need rebuild. Going on a pallet for next owner after I tip over if they want to put them back in.

A tip taught to me about 50 years ago by an old brake tech: to get the old seal out without damaging it, remove the nut, washer, and outer bearing. Then put ONLY the nut back on the spindle shaft. Now, apply some downward pressure on the rotor or drum and quickly snatch it off the spindle. The downward pressure keeps the nut from going through the inner bearing. The nut will catch the inner bearing which will catch the seal all the way around removing it completely undamaged. I have reused dozens of seals with no problems.

Yup, most states don't have safety inspections. And emissions testing a vehicle only has to meet the standards of its production day. And it's not irresponsible. Back in the 80s studies were done to see if safety inspections had reduced the amount of accidents and all the data showed they hadn't. All it was doing was creating a revenue stream for state governments and taxing citizens. Germany a bit different with access to unrestricted speed (or at least use to be) roads.

@@Cragifiedit’s a shame for us here in the uk , so many police and zero parts stores , you cannot drive any vehicle unless it’s had an inspection (MOT) some are exempt but if you are found with rust it’s classed as unroadworthy. Say you have 4 tyres below 1.6mm of tread you would receive 3 penalty points on your drivers license per tyre , 12 points = a ban from driving anything for a year .

Even here in Europe in the inspections the Cars have to meet the standards of their production date! How they would meet later ones😂?? i dont know what you are referring and my job as mechanic Is also to do said bi-annual inspections! besides, our system requires only the bare minimum to not have deathtraps on the Roads, the inspection Is basic, half and hour every 2 Years, we look lights, tyres, brake test, no "visibile" rust holes and gas test for the catalytic vehicles, nothing absurd, and Is done by an authorized mechanic shop for the state, not by some beaurocrat Bully! usually we are very comprensive of what Is real safety hazard and what Is not! nobody inspect your car here in Italy before they are sure It can pass so you dont have to pay 2 times, we look It, fix It then It would pass the only downside Is the cost of 70 euros(excluding eventual repairs) for it but the state have to make sure people maintain their vehicles or It would be a disaster

Back in June, i flew from my home in Alaska to Denver to pick up a 1973 f250 that had been sitting for at least 10 years and drive it back to Alaska. 2,408 Miles!! All original 390 with c6 automatic tranny. I broke down in Utah, Portland OR, Hope BC and in the middle of nowhere in BC Canada, but it made it home! Oh, and I picked up a 20 ft car hauler trailer in Portland, loaded it with about 7,000 LBs and towed it the rest of the way. After I pulled it in my driveway and parked the trailer, it wouldn't start again until i replaced the starter and adjusted the points and timing. Was an awesome trip with my brother. Learned alot and had tons of fun. it was actually on this trip someone told me about your channel. Great stuff, by the way. Distribution block was $230, power disc conversion kit was $700. Went with the conversion. 3 months later and brakes are still soft but can bleed, but now there’s grinding coming from the drinkers side. Still a working progress. The fact that this truck was able to be revived in this time… Epic.

I love the 70's and early 80's Ford F series trucks. My first truck was an '81 Ford F100 Custom, with a 300ci straight 6 and a 3 speed column shift. Loved that truck. It's still in running condition as well with almost no rust.

Derek, rally great video and brought back memories. My parents purchased a '72 F-250 in the same lime green in 1972 (I was 10) with the 360 and a 4spd. No power steering. Spent countless hours staring over that hood as a kid, took my drivers' test in it on a snowy winter morning. You really helped me with a 'bucket list' item here, as I always wanted to drive that truck again as an adult, and you took care of that for me! The video took me right back. It was the little things that struck me; the distinct sound that the door latch makes when you opened the door, the red brake light on the lower dash illuminating when you turned the key, the sound of the starter, the click that the wiper switch makes. I remember them all. The white headliner, the rubber grommets high on the inside of the cab corners behind your head as you drove. They all just hit me. Thanks for this - great video, really enjoy your work. Tough old truck.

Derek, another excellent video as always. Been watching your channel for years and have been hunting for a car like my dad had in high school for many years. Luck finally shined on me a few weeks ago. Found a '61 Ford Falcon 20 miles from me. Good body, 58k original miles, lots of new parts, just needs work on the Ford O Matic. Your videos have inspired me and now that Falcon is in my garage ready to wrench on! Just need to get my learn on with a FOM!

Honestly Derek I cried a little when you got to Rushmore, what an amazing adventure and how amazing an old Ford can still due what she was built to do. When I was a teenager my family pulled a camper to the black hills with an early 70's F-250 Camper Special, man this trip brought back memories. My first truck was our farm truck, a 1976 F-150 4x4, I really miss those old trucks.

Dude me too. I'm from Canada and did this trip with my family when I was a wee one. I also bought myself a 72 f100 out of a field and booted it all over Canada. I recently let it go and this episode tugged all the nostalgia between the truck and family. Something about old Fords eh

I bought a 65 F-250 that had 16.5 wheels and good luck finding tires for it unless you want some giant mud tire. It also has an 8 lug pattern to make it even more impossible to find wheels for. I ended up buying 18" 8 lug wheels off of a late 90's Dodge Ram to fit on the truck. But the truck is in amazing shape and has a 4 speed and a 460.

This has been my favorite of all the "will it run" videos that you've done in a while. Something about the work you had to do, the camper you put on it and the final destination made it a special episode. I'm shocked that the extra weight of the camper didn't cause the whole truck to collapse or break in half. You are the best, keep it up!!!

I owned a 68 F100 with a 360 ci manual trans. It leaked oil from the rear seal like a sieve and had 155k miles when I bought it in Texas. I also owned a 74 Gran Torino with a 351 ci Windsor. I swapped engines in the truck and learned a few things. Motor mounts and bell housing was required from a Mustang...69 I think. Long story short as I kept and drove this truck as my daily driver for 12 years. Derek pointed out the power steering in this '72. I found a burnt '72 and learned that this year was the first year Ford put power steering in the truck. So guess what I did? Yep I was dipped...but had to replace everything from the gearbox to the steering wheel. What a project but well worth the ease of steering.

I had the EXACT same truck in white. With a 360 and a homemade white camper on it that I bought in IOWA. She was REALLY ROUGH. The motor blew out and I put another 1976 360 from a junkyard in it in my driveway by myself. We took it camping many times and one time I accidentally put ethanol gas in it and it plugged up the entire fuel system. A neighbor camper took me into to town and I bought a bunch of fuel line, a new fuel pump and a case of fuel filters. Done it all right there at the campsight with my wife, two boys and every body else. It was a shitshow but she ran like a champ afterwards. That was only about 25 years ago, guessing. At least. I still have the camper. Propane storage. ALL WINDOWS wide open. I changed all the front end parts, brakes etc and she rode like a limo with the load on.

Derek, this episode was very emotional like for me. Let me explain my grandfather had that same exact truck, identical, same engine same everything I used to help him work on it. That was the vehicle that he used to teach me stuff whenever he was doing repairs I was right there. Literally 3-4 years old up until I was 12 years old. I would always help him work on the truck and every weekend I would sweep it out and wipe the dash and the door cards down. He passed away when I was 13 years old left the truck to me my father brought it home And let it sit in the driveway. One day I came home from school and the truck was gone. My father proceeded to tell me that somebody stole it. I was heartbroken. That was the only thing I had left for my grandfather fast forward 10 years later when I’m 23 I see the truck, it was at an uncle‘s house that we did not associate with rotted into the ground completely destroyed mind you I lived in Florida as a kid that humidity down there just kills a Ford. My uncle proceeded to tell me that my father gave him the truck because he wanted it out of his driveway because he was sick at looking at it, long story short this episode brought back a lot of memories a lot of feelings a lot of emotion thank you thank you for everything that you do and you will never understand how immensely you have inspired me to do what I do and to build my channel as well. We all love you and I know I’m speaking for everyone of us that are subscribed and watch your videos. You and your family and your values are exponentially infinite God bless you my brother.

Thanks for this video, Derek. This spring, I inherited a 72 Lime Green F250 Sport Custom that had been parked 15 years ago; a lot more miles on it but a lot less weight reduction, lol. I knew he'd said something about a bad wheel bearing and rotor. I was surprised by how easily I could get the engine up and running after watching some of your "will it run" videos; she just needed a new fuel pump, fuel line, and a tune-up. But man, the dump truck brakes!! I battled for hours ripping them off a couple months ago, and between that frustration and the cost of the new parts, I put everything on hold, but watching this motivated me to finally place the parts order today. Looking forward to restoring the old grasshopper to her former glory.
I lifted my Turbo Diesel International Scout (INCREDIBLE TRANSFORMATION!)
