jp.vice.com/top...
**********

“Started from the bottom” always triggered me. Drake was living the exact life that most teens in the middle and lower class dreamed of. “Nuhh I had to borrow my uncles Acura and he wouldn’t let me keep it out late”. Meanwhile a man from an area riddled with gang violence, where most people will had personally known victims of gun violence, still maintains a more positive message. Generally, except for when it comes to dismantling the biggest crybaby in music.

yeah, if anyone started from the bottom it was Kendrick. He got out of there against all odds, and this video is just a snapshot of the conditions he had to grow up in. Aubrey has no respect for what people actually go through at the bottom, he's blinded by his own ego and only sees what's around him. There are so many people who would love to see what Aubrey had at his lowest.
@balmain-i3e

Bruh this is silly. It's all about perspective. You can be born in the hills and still have obstacles and hurdles because of your perspective. Drake may have not been born in Compton but his perspective from where he was as a child to a single-mom and as an actor scouting for work to where he is now; he sees it as coming from the bottom to the top. It's ALL PERSPECTIVE. We outchea playing oppression Olympics and wearing our poor/humble backgrounds as a badge of honour when in truth no one cares. No one asked our parents to have sex and make babies while living in a shit hole. I was born in the hood too, just letting yall know. This isn't coming from a privileged perspective

I’m not Drake fan but he makes songs like that because hella people really did come from the bottom. So the song performs well because people listen to it as an anthem.

@@KrownRoyal I mean someone that really did come from the bottom could have relayed that message though. It’s just insulting to people that really did struggle imo since Drake came from an upper middle class upbringing in Canada and was a teen tv star.

Kendrick writes the stories of his people from the streets and the oppression pushed upon them. He’s a poet from the streets striving to ignite the spark for this generation and the next. Drake could never understand this life. Only through the pictures painted by Kendrick’s pen like the rest of us.

Yes but this is different. Depending on the state a hood could be lower income housing, some people doing hard drugs, and the local drug dealer but going from that to multiple killings, drive bys, and a plug on basically every corner is completely different. On one end the people living there know what happens but it's very dl, on the other hand it's brazen and violent. Those are enormous differences.

I was listenin to Dot and Drake back when they both first was comin up. Thats highschool time for me. I like Drake and could relate to some personal shit he said but I related to Dot way more cause he went through way more than just heart breaks and not being accepted. He went through that, gangs, dysfunction, family curses, being torn between good and bad , being at a crossroads etc etc. people act like Dot says overly intelligent shit but he really tells hood stories in a way similar to pac but with the more lyrical style of biggie or wayne.
