Dallin Stagg Only if you get bad pairs. I love Innovative’s designs the most, but I get a lot of poopy pairs from them. Same with the System Blue sticks. Half great, half poopy.

This is the sort of gig that would have me wishing for BASS, in the form of a PremierⓇ 398816, dual RemoⓇ PM-2028-MP PowerMaxⓇ II heads, and a pair of Vic FirthⓇ GSTH beaters. The CorpsmasterⓇ snare stick range has some excellent models, signature and otherwise, in full scale production; I use the SRHN Ralph Hardimon nylon-tips myself, and the MS5 picks up where the SSJ Scott Johnson model left off. (One stick I have under consideration for a future purchase is the SMJ Mike Jackson model, which I'd like to test-run on a NOS YamahaⓇ MTS-9214 birchbuilt twin-snare configured with RemoⓇ KS-0524-00 CybermaxⓇ batter and KL-0214-SA Falams IIⓇ resonant, plus PearlⓇ CH-5S batter-hoop hook, LR-40 leg rest and SLG-100 double sling, in the pipe-and-drum-corps environment.)
@BCSchmerker9 жыл бұрын
@117288745598270838831 I wouldn't use nylon tips on calfhides, but most current plastics (e.g., the EvansⓇ/D'AddarioⓇ B14HD on my TamaⓇ/HoshinoⓇ IMS145, and the B08EC2S through B16EC2S (evens) I plan on for new tom batters) tolerate them well; the nylon tips are often used for brighter tone on cymbal bells and bows.

I'm not knocking John Wooten as a player because he's a master in my book, but, anyone else think his technique looks to floppy and loose?
@johnwooton9 жыл бұрын
Yes, Jacob, thanks for noticing. That's a compliment by the way, not a knock.
@agee239 жыл бұрын
+John Wooton thanks for the reply! What's your reasoning for not having that drum corps tight technique?
@johnwooton9 жыл бұрын
+Jacob Agee Reason for not being tight? I like how you call it "Drum Corps Tight". I like to think of myself as "Drum Corps Loose." LOL! Actually none of these guys play tight. Ralph Nader is smooth as butta! You are getting the wrong idea about technique if you think that being tight is something you want to accomplish. You are going in the wrong direction. The trick to speed, endurance, power, good sound, and groove is to be as loose as possible. Only use tension when you need it and only use as much as you need. Too many bad techniques being taught today because people assume you have to be tight to be uniform. You have to be the same to be uniform, not tight. Also, I am a musician, not just a Rudimental drummer. My technique must carry over onto other instruments. If you practice a technique that is non-transferable then your drumming career is over as soon as you age out of drum crops, because there is no place else you can use this technique. Hope this helps.
@agee239 жыл бұрын
+John Wooton lol I didn't mean literally tight I meant that tighter look that you typically see in drum corps!
@johnwooton9 жыл бұрын
+Jacob Agee I don't know what you mean then. Perhaps you should try a different adjective. Tight is tight and I do see drummers in the marching arts playing too "tight" too often. IMHO.
