I’m not a game developer, but I am a writer and I’ve been trying to write my first novel and no matter how much prep you do, it always feels like jumping into a terrifying void. It’s comforting to know that sentiment is shared across many creative fields.

@@ViciousLegacyGameAUS I'm a software developer and also want to write a novel. I spent a lot of time creating a website that allows me to write and create "entities" that I can attach information to and allows me to rename very quickly or pin to the side as I write since I don't want to come up with names for characters or places and have to find/replace every time I change my mind haha. I should've spent that time on actually writing. Great work! I also wanted to create a game using unity and seeing this I can fully appreciate how hard it is to accomplish what you just did! I spent more than a week trying to just create a standard 3rd person controller...

Making a game and document the progress from the very start?? Awesome endeavour! Really hoping you manage to keep moving forward and taking your viewers on a journey with you with these dev logs. I adore how you included the silly artifacts, they're often fond memories we can look back on that make us chuckle and remind us of what we faced and conquered. I'm not doing game dev professionally, but watching this reminds me of when I dabbled in proc gen, taking deep dives into games like Minecraft and even Dwarf Fortress. The math sometimes hurts though! I can see a larger-than-life battle mechanic in here, where your actions affect parts of the world directly, e.g. clear or spread something like a plague, requiring generations worth of effort to advance in such a goal. Perhaps not limit yourself to just video games, and taking inspirations from board games such as Kingdom Death Monster or maybe even some things from Frosthaven. In any case, liked and subscribed, would love to track your progress and see this grow :)

As one of the many commenters that is having issues with self motivation, I'd like to also add that this has 'inspired' me to start devlogging my own adventures in development! I've already been working on a small game for a Discord community I've been with for nearly a decade, and this really gets the seat hot for me in terms of getting back ontop of it. I, alike most, find it hard to make time for this, but when you mentioned that this has taken you 3 MONTHS of progressing to get this far, I can applaud you, as I'd have given up completely if I had only made as much as you have in the grand scheme of the game idea (you have done plenty of work, but I function off visual progress and we both know it's not always visual work). That said, I'll attempt at devlogging myself better within the Discord community, and possibly via YT, to try and get my ass in gear towards this game! Thanks plenty, excited to see where you go next.

I know it might be a hassle, but something fascinating you could do with the system where you die but the world moves on, is save what islands were loaded where.
