For those who didn't know (like me): MPi-AKS-74NK = Mashinenpistole-Automat Kalaschnikow mit Stutze fur Nachtsichtgerat und ZF Kleine Which means it's East German (MPi) shortened (K) AK-74 with foldable stock (S) and side scope mount (N)
@ГаврилоПринцип-и7ф6 жыл бұрын
Zone Tan It is East German but words "East German" are not in the name of the model. In English It should be called something like this: MP(machine pistol)- AK-74-FS(folding stock) -SM(side/scope mount) -S(short)...or without MP so just *AK-74-FS-SM-S* . It's too complicated just call it East German short AK-74 with folding stock.

"N" means that it has a Dovetail. All those Letters have a meaning in AK Guns. M = Modernized ( AKM ) N = Dovetail Side Mount S = Skeletonized foldable Buttstock U = Short B = Silenced or fitted for Silencers ( Surpressors what ever ) The "K" has to mean something different. maye indeed that its shorter but not as short as short as an "U". For example. AKS-74UB Super Short AK74 U with skeletonized foldable Stock and optimized for Silencer Use. Quiet a nice systemm to distinguish different AKs

This is not a true look at AK! The most reliable machines were made in the USSR (now Russia). Made in the GDR take the second place (there are problems with metal rust and fragile plastic parts). The Germans did very good, but not the best AK ...

@AKAngelKingAK5 жыл бұрын
Both Russia and the DDR had its ups and downs when it came to quality control. Such as the Germans in the beginning of production on their MPiK which they had so many defective parts not passing inspections that they had to start punishing the workers and refusing them their pay because they were so far behind schedule and not even close to producing the number of rifles that they planned to have built at the time... Or such as in Russia during the 90s which their economical problems effected their quality control causing it to drop a significant amount compared to their production during Soviet times. But yes Dimitri is correct though, East Germany used a deep blued finish which looks amazing and much better in my opinion but it was very much prone to rusting esp when compared to Russia which used a special paint over phosphate. And East Germany only used hard wood on their milled AKs and used laminated wood for only the first couple of years on their MPiKM (AKM) which their production increased over time leading the very early MPiKM's with the wood furniture to be extremely rare. So for nearly all off its production up until December 31 1989 and January 1st 1990 when their AK74 production completely ceased including the production of spare parts, it used plastic/polymer furniture. The stock and upper handguard being weaker then the bakelite lowers. And the polymer that they used was not as good as what the Russians were using at the time even through out the 90s. Over all and for the most part more often then not, the fit and finish was better on the East Germans though. But neither was bad enough where it really effected the function of their rifles at all! So the rust issues and the plastic being more prone to cracking and or becoming more brittle over time esp through the changes of climate in particular winter and freezing conditions, means the Russian is technically the better AK. Change the furniture and give it the same finish as the Russian, then the East German would be better quality and fit and finish.

But if the butt of the rifle is a slightly harder, different shape butt, oh no. Kill their pupper. Throw em in jail. Take all their guns. Burn their children. Shoot their innocent pregnant women. Only a few times we shot with it on the firing range. A strong memory here was shooting every 3rd round of tracer ammunition. It was a huge mess to clean the gun afterwards. The folding handle was important for the drill. It just looked much better in connection with white gloved parades.

Soviets made one of those too (AK-105) with their triangular side folding stock, but this EG version is also my favorite. Find yourself one of those rubber bumpers that's designed to go with a Soviet GP-25 grenade launcher. Fits on the butt stock with ether a Velcro strap or belt buckle fastener. Fits perfectly over one of those East German side folding stocks and does wonders to cushion recoil with one of those. Give it a try, and thanks for the awesome videos!

What a treat for the 5.45 shooters. 🤓 I love how it uses the standard length bolt carrier group. It was only a quick glimpse, but it looked like it uses a pretty standard side mount, too. About the only thing I would change-- for practicality's sake only, for field use-- is the folding wire stock, which just doesn't fit me so well. But as a collector classic, that's a pretty boss rifle. Hughes & NFA needs to go, yep....
