Bobby Byrd was One lucky guy to marry her until he died. If he was still alive, they would have been married for 43 years this year. James Brown knows how to pick the female singers. From Vicky Anderson, The late Lynn Collins, and the late Marva Whitney.

And she was one smart lady not to fall for James Brown.

@@melyndaduh3501 sure was. She went for the best one and that was Bobby. Rest in peace to him and now Vickie.

She looks like a young Janelle Monae. Similar skin tone and beautiful high cheek bones. Literally, she could do a biopic and play her.

This isn't from 1969, Aretha released Call Me on Jan. 21st, 1970. Vicki & James appeared on The Mike Douglas Show on March 17, 1970, (ep #142) & May 7, 1970 (ep. 179). My guess is that this clip is from the March 17th taping.

You are correct. I also notice Bootsy and Phelps Collins playing in the band. They did not join until 1970.

Love the raspyness of her voice! Sounds as if she may have been a little hoarse but she still sings the mess out of this Aretha classic! Much Respect!!!!

1. Too bad the ending is cut off. 2. It takes a certain kind of band that sounds rugged even in their slow shit. 3. RIP to Vicki Anderson, James Brown, and everybody in the band that has long since passed away.
