BTW…. James Brown invented this music! Not the song, the actual style of music! It did not exist before him.

You’re looking at the complete origin of Hip Hop. It does not exist without these guys! Thats right! Lest we forget (or don’t know)… Hip Hop started in a small neighborhood . Then expanded from its core outwards. It wasn’t called hip hop. It had no name. I’m from the block that it started. The pioneers (who were just kids. Nobody’s) knew my name. We wrote graffiti, snuck on trains and stole spray paint, we were in gangs and partied drank beer and danced at the clubhouse. Then Friday/ Saturday went to the real party to show off our moves. You and your boys walked to the party through heavy gang territory. 20 deep. In the clubhouse and at the party, guess what record was playing? This exact same one! This was rebel music! This song did not play on the radio. Never! You heard it at the party. On the way to the party, if somebody yelled out “SOUL POWER” everyone knew what to say back. Loud! In other gangs neighborhoods. That generation created hip hop later on. Before rappers. Before DJs. BEFORE KOOL HERC! BEFORE BRONX RIVER AND BAMBATTA. KRS made a record about the history of it. “South Bronx!” Not west Bronx. (Herc) Not east Bronx (Bam) But the Southern section of the Bronx. 15/20 square blocks. Past that nobody knew about these young black party gang graffiti writing guys. Hip Hop was born from the energy that this song created. And a few others. It starts off with big horns and James Brown singing and then everything drops out instead of the drums James and Bobby! Pandemonium at the party! It was almost like a religious experience. Surrounding neighborhoods saw what we did and joined in. Nobody young could deny the power of it. It spread like a pandemic. Basically, hip hop was created by about 50 of my friends. Streets were heavily populated back then and nobody stayed home. You might miss something. Nobody believes this today but my brother created that warm up step that break dancers use before they spin out. Him and his man Andre. The had 2 man dance teams back in those days. Them cats was dead nice and had fans. Signed autographs 😂. If you went to one of these parties you never were the same again. James supplied the beats that made it all possible.

Ron Isley has flat out the greatest, smooth as butter, voice (over multiple decades and styles) in rock/soul/r&b history. But this clip shows why the Isley Brothers, as a live act, just didn’t blow everything else off the stage like the James Brown band ! Imagine how many chicks these guys got ! Lol. Including the five in front of them😊

Never heard this version before. But I love how it’s like a jam session. From the opening riff on James Bond. Letting the playing run faster and letting voice loose at the end. Obviously a man very much in love with the music and having a great time with it.
