When I was young I didn't understand why they use to beg for money, they have their health right so what was the problem... later I asked my parents about it, then I came to know.. Actually, transgerders enjoyed higher status in our society till the medieval times. Many transgenders were employed as guards for temple complexes and for security of royal women like queens, princesses etc. In Mahabharata, Shikhandi was a transgender, yet she was a great warrior and a "King".... Even the homosexual community enjoyed their rights during the ancient times... all changed when the British came and started ruling our lands and societies.... we started venerating the goras and the hangover of venerating the fair skinned people and snorting at dark skinned people still continues...no doubt, there were hidden boons when British came to rule our country, but we are yet to shed and get rid of the banes that we imbibed during the british raj to these times... times when even the British government have de-criminalised homosexuality long back and pardoned Alan Turing posthumously...

I am from south africa, and I once watched an episode of the indian version of who wants to be a millionaire at my friends house, that is where I saw her and became inspired by her story since my best friend is going through the same issues.

Can't stop my tears. This is the first ad I've seen as a transgender woman. My parents are against that fact and aren't even talking about it so it's making me feel depressed and dysphoric day by day. I have to start my transition anyway. But the thought that I will be still harrassed/judged by people no matter how many laws are passed makes me feel so sad and scared :(

Being a Transgender is such a huge taboo in India that most parents disown their trans child..As if its a sin. We lack voice for LGBT and Women rights till now. Still many capable women that I know of aren't able to get the rights due to some patriachial social rhetoric. Increasing Awareness ,Education and living standards of the citizens is the key to deal with this problem.
