Vicks is partnering with Mission Australia and Coles to help people experiencing homelessness in Australia.
We, at Vicks, believe that everyone deserves the #TouchOfCare, especially those who have been brought down by life’s hardships. Because a single person who cares can be the support you need to lift yourself up.
This is the true story of how the #TouchOfCare has helped a once homeless girl turn her life around and find the courage to care for others.

I was crying at how beautiful this is. I honestly believe it should have millions of views and be spread all over the internet. No matter whether it is an add or not this spreads such a deep message in such a simple form. Bringing us all to the reasoning that really there are people suffering all over Australia or even the world that suffer like this. But all we see them as, is invisible. No one knows everyone’s stories so we need to be more caring.

As someone who was kicked out of home at the age of 14, and throughout my teens, had myself a hard road to travel down... even though i was moving around constantly - on the streets, from one emergency house to another, couch surfing and wearing down friendship because them and their parents just didn't understand... even after failing courses in school over and over, i still stuck to it in hopes that things may just one day get better. Paying for myself both in high school and TAFE, i would eventually find myself work, i would eventually make new friends, i would eventually get passed being angry at what cards i was handed in life. I'm now 31 years old and I've never had a stable home. I've lived in houses for a few days, to a maximum of 2 years. After the life i've led and have tried to keep on track, i've learnt much, both about myself and the world around me... but i'm no genius, and that's ok. I've been with my partner for almost 2 years now and i'm gradually working things out as time goes on. I'm not dead yet. Drug and alcohol users are given significantly more help than mental health and homeless sufferers. The world is a cruel and unforgiving place, and even though i should hate everyone and everything... i simply don't. No matter how much you cry and scream, nobody will hear you unless you get their attention in a way that doesn't seem hostile or unworthy of their time. Therefore, I try, everyday, to make atleast one person smile. If i'm gonna be around for a while, i may as well try to put some happiness back into the world, because as far as i can tell, everyone seems to be just out for themselves. And that might be the case, but are you a sheep, or...? Yes, what you're reading might not be so soft and fluffy, but atleast i'm being real and not blinding you with propaganda to make you hate your neighbour for the most insignificant crap. People are people. Love them or hate them, the choice is yours... so why not compremise and merely learn to live with them. Intolerance is what f**ked us humans up in the first place... and as time repeats itself, is once again creating a further divide between us all so that the needs of the few can be sorted out by the voices of the many. So, say hi to your neighbour. Have disagreements while creating a productive debate. Peacefully accept and tolerate that people will have opposing views to your own. Use your words and not your fists. Insecruities may suck, and hurt a shitload... but they'll always remind you that you're still human. So be a human - find your flaws and accept them as being apart of you. Embrace those flaws and build your resilience. And no matter how weird you think you might be... keep in mind that some of the wierdest people are usually the most creative. The message in this ad is simple - ears are good for not only not making your head look weird without them, but letting others know that you actually use your ears for more than hearing your own voice. Curious thought - I wonder what the fathers backstory is, why he's so testy, and how he got that way. I wrote all of this for a bloody VICKS commercial revolved around homelessness. Why? Idk :) P.s. - movie recommendation; 'The Lookout'. This has nothing to do with VICKS, but neither did this ad.

DAMN VICKS!!! Ur vapo rub always made me feel comfortable during rainy days when I was sick and seeing this I can relate. After a falling out there’s always someone out there to trust. You just gotta keep moving until the one that cares can change your life with one thing. To care... don’t worry about gaining popularity about the ones that don’t care, stick with the ones that do.

Amazing, Message, For myself, having no support; people presume so much without knowing almost anything.....this is some of what causes mental health. Lots of men are bad, it can be the mother growing up abusive also along with co-workers causing it upon attempting to return to work... The Mutz and I were homeless for a few years, now happy just living in the bush with my dogs, once every month or so go into a small town and try to do one thing for an animal in need.... accept my new life, invisible and forgotten by almost all.. to broken and disappointed with my “new” life to be able to change. All good, such is life.. 🇦🇺🐶🦘👍✌️ Great ad, thank you.. just wish it was really true, that people care... hay puppies always listen :-)

Jim Bob I have been homeless, our whole family were, my sons and myself, one of my sons even had a full time job. I'm not sure what you mean look at the figures, maybe up in the ivory towers the figures look 'small' but when you are the one who is homeless it feels significant
@emuwasi
@emuwasi 5 жыл бұрын
Julia Francis 75% of homeless are men. when was the last time you saw an ad for helping homeless men? As per the 2017 personal safety survey men and women suffer interpartner violence and similar rates, yet only 1/3 reported cases are male victims though our government and society only care about female victims. 5/6 suicide victims are men, yet we aren't allowed to treat mental health as the gendered issue it is. This ad continues the same narative that is throughout the media that men bad, women victim. How many men's shelters are there? how many women's shelters? Erin Pizzey is worth a look at. She was instrumental in setting up one of the first women's shelters in the UK. 67% of women surveyed had been violent towards their partner and a woman's history of IPV is as valid a predictor of her likelihood of future IPV as her partners history was. Being homeless is terrible, though, like almost every other facit of life as a woman there is assistance, as a man you'd better drag yourself up by your bootlaces. This ad talks about constantly being told your worthless - that's what we constantly tell our boys and men (especially the hideous government ads saying it starts with disrespect). This ad is in the same vein as the gillette ad but they're trying a slightly different tack to achieve the same goal. Anyway, thank you for taking the time to reply and I hope you and your family are doing far better than the period you described. Have a good day.
@JuliaFrancisEmilyLouise
@JuliaFrancisEmilyLouise 5 жыл бұрын
You are clearly very passionate about this issue, maybe you work in this area. Just to be clear, I did not mention gender at all. In the city I used to live in while my family were homeless there were shelters for men but none for women. I'm not sure why you are attacking me, a disabled person with a disabled son with the whole family being homeless, seems rather cruel. We moved city five months ago to access housing but sadly the reason we can get a house here is because no one wants to live here as there are no jobs. Western society is falling apart. Please talk to your local member about your concerns, as the Abbott government removed all funding for womens' shelters and most have closed, you might like to bring that up. This feels like victim blaming, my life is tragic enough
@emuwasi
@emuwasi 5 жыл бұрын
Julia Francis, I've been trying to work out how to reply for two months. The only thing I've come up with that I don't think can be reframed as an attack, yet still possibly get my point across is as follows. Near me there is a shopping center that has a neon sign that says "we believe in girls". When was the last time you saw a positive message like that about boys in such a public setting? Hope you are having a good day and are able to point out a great example.

Tl/Dr; if you are EVER in the position to help someone then PLEASE DO IT!!! Pay it forward style. This reminds me of the ReMoved mini series especially with that ending. WE ALL CAN HELP OTHERS!!! Some differently than others but we CAN ALL DO SOME THING!!! Even if that's giving someone a listening ear, buying them a coffee, sitting with them. Every little bit counts. And while you may not think it's enough, if that act of kindness gives someone even the tiniest spark of hope it WILL Help them. Sometimes, a kind word from someone or a kind gesture can give you enough to keep you going until you are able to seek help. Like when I was at my worst and someone would choose to sit with me, get me a hot chocolate, some smokes and most importantly listen. It made me, for that moment at least, believe "maybe the whole world is NOT completely fucked... Maybe someone DOES care... Maybe I AM worth something..." That hope is what many have given me over the years with their basic kindness, respect, compassion, empathy etc. They helped me a LOT in that moment. And that's why, when a few months ago a young girl in her pyjamas, with hospital bands on her wrists, arm bandaged and belongings in a plastic "Patient belongings" bag got onto the tram near the hospital and bawled her eyes out on the phone to people begging for help to get money for her meds that I got some money and rolled a smoke and gave them to her. Because that girl was me, maybe she's gone through different stuff to get to where she was then, but in that moment I saw the desperate pleading for the pain to just stop in her eyes and I couldn't turn away. I HAD to help in the small way that I could. I just hope that it was enough to get her through the night so she could get the help she needs and deserves. We ALL dexerve that basic respect. There's always something that we can do to help. Maybe we can't magically fix it, but we CAN do what little is possible in that moment. Please, PLEASE Just do what you can, as that small act of genuine kindness WILL create a positive ripple into the world & universe. And ALWAYS tell the person you help if they offer to pay you back that instead of paying you back, they pay it forward whenever, wherever & however they can in the future. One day they will see someome and know 'this is the person I am meant to help' and then they can tell that person to pay it forward too.
