As an overweight over 70 woman who has dieted for over 40 yrs with varying success, the 5:2 or even the newer Fast 800 works for me. Bought Dr Michael Mosley’s book, made lot of sense. I fast 16 hrs eat 8 hrs (TRE) and surprisingly hunger is minimal. Great recipes in the Fast 800 book, plenty under 400 calories. I feel great, have lost 1.7kg 1st week, in control and no sugar cravings. Also check out Dr Jason Fung who has excellent videos on intermittent fasting. Easiest way to lose weight & no memberships, fees etc. Thanks for sharing your story Vicky

Vicki - I love it!!! - its exactly the video I needed to see today - as I said in FB I heard (again) about the 5:2 eating plan from my colleague who sadly left today to work somewhere else. Now I find this and you - the gorgeous and ever charming self-has given me the final kick to get started. Love it. I came across a 5:2 books for vegetarian /vegans by Kate Harrison - considering buying it - wondering if you have heard of it?

Hi Vicky, from Canada! :)-Love your down-to-earthiness & just found your channel! Can you do a video on ‘what you ate’ on your feed days? I find there is a lack of example out there and let’s face it...no one wants to waste precious time investing in this program if there is an over-doing on any foods on feed days. I realize no one has to count their calories and that is why I ask. :) TY again!

Hey, sure! I think this is something a few people would like to know. I'll get to it this week. I'm just uploading an intolerance vid today, and then I'll get onto your request.

Why do people eat on the fasting days? I feel like it would be easier to actually fast on only water on the fasting days. Plus, that's how you trigger autophagy, yeah? But everything I've seen on this diet says 500 calories. I think I'd rather just fast?
@MyMontana526 жыл бұрын
I question that, also. I want to do a 48-hr Fast every week until I reach my weight goal. Then, would consider a complete 24-hr fast once a week. I really need an answer on this, as well.
@JessBisme1236 жыл бұрын
@@MyMontana52 I found what you and I were talking about. It's called eat, stop, eat. Brad pilon wrote a book about it. I think if the reduced calorie option works for people, fine. But it's way easier for me not to eat at all than to just eat a little. I didn't eat for 3 days and was fine. I broke the fast with recommended food, and within hours I was STARVING. Had to eat more. So I think eat stop eat may be better for me than 5:2 with reduced calories. But I'm gonna do some more research before deciding.
@VickyTsoleridis5 жыл бұрын
You know - you really could just have water. And you'd probably do really well too. But being completely honest, as a mum with two kids, I need food :) Even if it's just an apple or a cup of coffee or some chia seed pudding. Just something to take the edge off so I don't yell all the time - you get my drift. My husband does the water fast and he sheds faster than I do.
@VickyTsoleridis5 жыл бұрын
@@MyMontana52 I think that is reasonable. If you're strong enough to do it, then sure go for it! admittedly I am not that strong.

such a helpful video, thank you! can i ask, do you eat more on fasting days if you have exercised? or strictly always keep it below 500 despite exercise? thanks
@VickyTsoleridis6 жыл бұрын
Hey Amber - Keep it strictly below 500calories. So my exercise regime won't be as 'intense' as I won't have the energy to survive the day :) However, Some people have up to 800 calories with the same results.

I try to walk an hour a day. Would that be too little calories if I'm eating 500 calories and losing 300 that day ? Maybe i need 800 on the fast days?

We need to know what to eat on the days you are not doing the two days on 5/2 because I know someone who only lost a lb in six weeks on this diet.
@VickyTsoleridis5 жыл бұрын
Sure, on the days I don't 5:2 - it will vary. Because, as a family, we enjoy eating out, I have on 'cheat' day a week, where I don't restrict myself. This day would include pizza/gelato However, a typical day would be Breakfast - a coffee (latte), either scrambled egg on toast, or toast with cashew butter or ricotta and honey; Snack - generally a piece of fruit and a handful of mixed nuts (and that's a generous handful) and a couple of dates Lunch - a sandwich or a hard boiled egg, or left overs from the night before....and there are days where I'll have huevos rancheros (I love beans and eggs....) Dinner - a curry with soba noodles or a piece of lean protein with salad and some carbs might be potatoes/pasta.... As you can see I don't really restrict myself, but I do avoid eating anything past 6.30pm. And I don't snack at all after dinner. I walk regularly, and that's my main form of exercise.

Can people with CDK do this?
@VickyTsoleridis5 жыл бұрын
Hi Elizabeth, good question. And to be honest, I would suggest not to perform any form of fasting with diseases, unless authorised by your health practitioner. There are so many factors involved, whether dialysis is part of your regime, the type of medication you're on and how they are impacted by not eating, your blood count, sugar levels and so much more. I wish I could give you a clearer answer, but in this case, you will need to discuss wth your doc. Sorry I could not be more helpful. xV
