@@bettywillbrowse I've known abuse victims who have had their abuser call police and claim the victim is trying to kill themselves, and they break down the door for that (even though the person wasn't suicidal). And some if them are taken for 3 days of evaluation and held hostage. It's so common they refer to it as a "special vacation". One woman I know said she returned to her home after those three days to find it empty. He had taken all the furniture, the children, every lamp, her clothes but the door was still broken. The CONTENT of the phone call should matter. I don’t think the fact that this lady was in real trouble and her aunt had already been killed had been relayed to the responding officers. There’s always something important missed as the call goes from the 911 center to dispatch and then to the patrol car. It’s like that game where a bunch of people line up and someone whispers a phrase to the first person and then the phrase is passed down the line. The message is never close to the original. As I wrote in another comment, the police wrote her off as crazy before they got to the front door. They had probable cause. I’m sure the young woman would not have been upset by the broken door or the intrusion. When the captain used the 4th Amendment as an excuse, it made my blood boil.

This is haunting. This family deserved the reaction I had with a great cop in rhode island. Even though it was one of few good interactions he probably saved my life. I was stalked in 2013 and the police officer took it seriously RIGHT away. When he ran the info on the guy he had a extremely violent history of stalking and hurting women. I had moved into his condo unit when he became obsessed with me. That cop went to his home, told him if he ever came near me again he would regret it, put a restraining order out, hung out in the complex, and told all his colleagues to watch out for me and for that guy. He treated me so well. That’s the best interaction I have ever had with a cop, I brought them cookies and thanked him profusely. Thanks to the cop at westerly, RI PD I wasn’t harmed only because he took one handwritten note and my story seriously. I’ve had the opposite interaction with cops as well. But that officer has a big place in my heart and all my respect. PLEASE always take calls or red flags seriously. I thought this guy was innocent until all hours of the night I heard someone trying to break in. He followed me to local bars. I woke up and he left a note for my husband in the door claiming we had had an affair. Thankfully that cop didn’t question me that it was not true and I was scared. THIS FAMILY DESERVED THAT.

“You gotta have some pretty good reasons to go in” says Chris Becker. So a women calling, obviously in distress whispering, isn’t a cry for help or a “pretty good reason?” Literally ridiculous, I hope they find this horrible person who I hate to even call a person since he’s a monster.

Folks if you ever have to deal with GRPD, get an attorney! I cannot imagine what this family went through. My experience with GRPD on my sister’s missing persons case was deplorable. The Sgt who had her case was flippant with me so I complained to GRPD. After a phone with a Capt, I received a scathing email from the Sgt. He had been listening to the call and admonished me for trying to help my sister who has mental health issues, has substance abuse problems and is homeless. I sent his email to the Mayor’s Office and to GRPD internal affairs.

Update: My sister is still missing. After my complaint (about the Sgt.) to the Mayor’s Office, I was contacted by his friend from Internal Affairs. And I was admonished again on the phone for complaining about such a great Officer who is also a pillar of the community. Stood my ground and said “the blue line protects the blue line,” need I say more. Glad an attorney is taking the case.

I heard an Atlanta 911 call very similar to this. The victim was hiding in the closet and whispered just like Keyona. There were FOUR armed men in her house. The Atlanta 911 operator GOT it immediately! She asked if the caller was whispering bc she was in danger. She was real reassuring to the lady, told her stay quiet but say her address when she could. The Atlanta dispatcher had a whole team with no sirens on the way and stayed talking to the terrified woman in her closet. Atlanta dispatcher helped save someones life against MANY odds. THIS halfwit dispatcher is responsible for completely f’n up the call, putting it in officers heads this was probably a BS call…I hate to say this but he really failed Keyona. Don’t want to say “caused her death”bc the killer did that. That dispatcher was just a total buffoon that failed Keyona completely.

Sad to know that they thought she had mental issues because she called whispering for help. You could hear the sketchisim in the officers voice when he was walking up to the door. They have "probable cause" to search your car if they suspect drugs but not probable cause when you call and say a man already killed your aunt and is about to kill you???? Crazy and he is still on the loose??? Wow smh RIP

So basically as long as you’re house is locked up your abuser or killer has the ability to do as they want with you because police aren’t going to kick in the door and come in to rescue you. This is a messed up law. I still think there’s more they could’ve done. I’ve seen swatting videos where pranksters called in saying they killed their families and police went in guns blazing with no questions asked

The cops had probable cause to go in that house if she said that her aunt had already been killed and she was worried for her safety. The responding cops did not get the correct info and urgency from the dispatcher if they arrived on scene with such a casual attitude. Obviously, they did not get dispatched to a possible homicide.

No probable cause? She literally said he killed her aunt and was going to kill her. How is it that her calling in a homicide is not probable cause to go in? Last I checked this is how people online get someone 'swatted', they call and say someone has been killed in the home and the cops come busting into the home.

I get that police can't just barge into a house without cause but with exigent circumstances police can go into a home to see what is going on inside. Just because there was no visible blood or things over turned doesn't mean someone isn't in need of help. The cops could argue that it could've been a prank call and why they didn't enter, to avoid a possible, potentially deadly confrontation with the unsuspecting homeowner but if that would've been the case i'm sure they would've been covered under "exigent circumstances". "We got a call that someone was in imminent danger, saying that someone was already dead, and were afraid for their life, so we kicked in the door." Sounds like in this case the police dropped the ball. Another reason to own a firearm. Even if the cops show up within minutes and they knock and you dont answer because someone has a gun to your head, and they leave, you're screwed.

No one gives a crap if that cop thought the call sounded interesting. No one cares what he thinks about Keyona's mental health. It's not his effing job to go on calls he finds interesting or express his opinion on the health of someone who calls for help. The person saying, "she called saying she was being assaulted" wasn't even accurate. She said her aunt had been killed and that she was next. The prosecutor is a repulsive individual with that smarmy smile on his rich, white, privileged face. These public servants are lazy and treated these women and their families and neighbors in the worst way. Absolutely disgusting. Sadly though, it's not surprising. Police officers are not trained to assist in cases of domestic violence. In my area they repeatedly "lose" hundreds of DV reports. I reached out many times for help and the police were equally arrogant and uncaring. One told me to "call us back after he slits your throat".
