I read The Time Machine this weekend as a palate cleanser after a big book. I liked it better than I did The Invisible Man. It is thought provoking. I am going to read The War of the Worlds for the serialized prompt. I too will be reading Jane Eyre for the religion prompt and some Sherlock Holmes for the Conan Doyle prompt. But first, I need to finish The Shining that I started on September 1. I made the mistake of trying to read it and David Copperfield at the same time. I didn’t realize that Dickens would beat out King for my interest by a landslide. I brushed it aside to focus on one book at a time.

I can say that I love Jane Eyre and Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, but all the others just feel like a slog. If you are considering listening to Jane, there is an excellent unabridged audiobook read by Juliet Stevenson. Good luck with your Victober picks!
