The Victor Rat Zappers work! I caught my 6th rat today. He was a huge male with an enormous tail. My Rat Zappers also caught 3 squirrels. I have been using peanut butter as bait, but I might try small pieces of chicken for faster results (as suggested by one of your viewers @Captain Caveman).

Tiny mice here are so smart that they will steal the bait by entering from the tiny holes at the rear. If these holes are blocked then the bait will remain untouched and no mouse will be caught. How to catch these rodents?

@@wilsont1010 Try taping some cheese cloth or cut up screen over the small holes, that still allows light in and also the scent of the bait out. This trap is probably good for mice, for rats-at least the ones I run into-it was worthless. Rats are too smart and cautious.

We had a terrible rat infestions about 6 years ago. We bought two of the Victor traps and used them for 5 years even loaning them out to neighbors. We live near downtown with a couple of vacant houses in the hood. The two traps we bought were great, easy to use and empty. And they finally quit on us this year. My husband bought another brand on Amazon and it lasted through only 3 rats and quit. Won't buy any other brand again! BTW I set them out on the covered deck at night and turn it off first thing in morning and so far the squirrels haven't bothered it. Thank you.

ok so I got this model M241/M24TH and I caught 3 mice in three days but then I noticed that they would steal the peanut butter and avoid entering the trap.(And the bait door was securely shut tight). The mice was able to put his head thru the holes at one end of the trap instead of entering from the opposite end. I then noted in your video that there was a slanted board in the roof of the trap to prevent the rat from backing out of the trap and so I placed the peanut butter on that part of the trap thus inviting the mice to enter completely and stepping on the two medal plates. I got a mice within 10 minutes of placing the trap in my kitchen where they have been having a field day ever since my neighbor started having her kitchen remodeled. I am also trying the plaster of paris mix. Someone also told me to try bars of Ex Lax to dehydrate the mice.

I bought 4 of these Victor electronic rat traps when I had some rats get in the garage and home awhile ago. I never caught a single rat with this trap and I tried EVERY kind of bait you can imagine-cream cheese, colby cheese, cheddar cheese, peanut butter, reeses peanut butter cups, dog kibble (they had shown desire for my dog's kibble in the past). The rat(s) would not enter this trap no matter how enticingly it was baited or positioned. And I wore latex gloves when handling the trap or baiting it, so human-scent was not a concern to cause rats to be cautious. I have to believe the rats are looking into that dark opening and feel threatened by something they don't understand-I've been told rats don't like to enter holes where they can't SEE an exit at the other end and those 4 small holes on the bait end just aren't enough? Or possibly the traps puts off an electronic hum that is inaudible to human ears but makes rats nervous? All I know is I purchased four boat anchors that were expensive and did not catch a single rat-they wouldn't even enter it to taste the bait, the bait was not touched. I'd love to talk to someone at Victor about my experience with these traps and see what they have to say, because they were COMPLETELY ineffective in my experience.

@@SmartPennyPincher I'm a seasoned citizen and was raised on a farm. Back then, 55-60 years ago, we'd get rats in the corn cribs on occasion. We'd toss in a few warfarin based bait packages, the rats would consume it overnight and we'd find them dead on the lawn in a day or so. Or we'd set a few traps and always caught plenty. Not today! These rats today are vastly more cunning and intelligent than the ones we had back on the farm! The ones I'm dealing with avoid traps completely, they'll walk right around them and never touch the bait. You can set a dozen or two dozen traps out and they will not touch them. Glue strips-I think I had one rat step in one, but he shook it off pretty easily and left a little hair in it. Live catch cages-don't waste your money. Rats have evolved since the ones we had back when I was a kid, they're not likely to fall for the same methods of control that they used to. It's very discouraging because they can be very destructive and dirty, you absolutely want to get rid of them asap. Victor and the other Rodent Control companies need to understand their stuff is not enticing to rats and is often very ineffective. They need to do some more R&D and come up with better technology-and this time use a sample population of the SMARTEST rodents when they test it. If it's effective on them, it will surely be effective on their less intelligent cousins.

@pimpompoom93726
@pimpompoom93726 Жыл бұрын
@@jessicahernandez3110 We finally got rid of our rats, but it wasn't because of any kind of traps. It was the result of several things-sealing the home exterior, sealing all food sources inside the home, we cleaned every square inch of the home with disinfectant to get rid of rat-trail odors, rearranged furniture to confuse and unnerve them-lots of little things like that. And rats only have a short lifespan-about a year in the wild. We've seen no sign they're around for over a month but we're continuing to do things to make the home less rat-friendly. As for these electronic traps, I cleaned them up with Hydrogen Peroxide and found an odd dried discharge in one of them near the bait tray. It looks like dried spittle which a rat MAY have released when he entered the trap and got zapped, so they MAY have enticed one rat in. Regardless, they didn't kill it and if one got zapped he was wise to the traps and never entered again-they learn really fast. As a product upgrade, I recommend VICTOR use clear plastic on the back of their traps so it looks less like a closed tunnel-which rats avoid. They need to look into the trap and see light at the other end. Rats are not like house mice, they're far more cautious and cunning. A mouse will fall for a baited trap 99% of the time, rats maybe only 20-30% of the time and if it fails to kill them the first time, they will NEVER approach that trap again. They repeatedly walked AROUND my baited traps and I used every kind of bait you can think of. They did things that were really bizarre-like I put down one rat poison tray. They wouldn't eat any of the poison pellets, but they dropped pieces of stale bread they had stored away right into the tray like they were mocking me. Unbelievable. People who have not dealt with this rodent have no idea how cunning they are.

Seriously, rodents don't care about the human scent at all. Most of the food they eat smell of humans. They use items that smell of humans to build their nests. The places they infest, near and smelling of humans. What they are is smarter than you think and naturally suspicious of new things in their environments. People have caught on film rats using tools to set off traps to get the bait without danger. That's smart.
@theabrescia1955
@theabrescia1955 3 жыл бұрын
@@warholscircus -Yes, rats are very smart. The manufacturer of the Victor trap writes in their instructions to use a cotton swab to place the bait so that the human scent does not get on the trap. Their research team found that keeping the human scent off the Victor trap works better to catch rodents. Since rats are clever and suspicious, they seem to be less cautious if the trap has no human scent. So far my traps caught 5 rats and 3 squirrels. ( Although, I wasn’t aiming for squirrels). I also purchased some mouse traps from a different manufacturer, and they also recommend using gloves when handling bait and traps, to better catch more mice. Actually, I like mice and rats. They look sweet and make nice pets who recognize the faces of their humans. But too many of them got into the engine compartment of my vehicles, chewing wires, so I reluctantly had to exterminate them. They seem to love peanuts and peanut butter. Found lots of peanut shells under the hood.

I have rats and they enter my new Victor electronic rat trap which discharges its electrical current but does not always kill the rat. The electrical current appears to deliver such a jolt it overturns the Victor box, even when a brick is placed on top. In the morning I sometimes find the box lying on its side or upside down. Often the bait has just been touched by the unsuspecting intruder when the chamber activates its electrical charge. I can only conclude this Victor trap is failing, unless other animals are removing the dead rat from the chamber and eating it during the night. Secondly, cunning rats simply open the bait box from the outside with their claws and steal the bait without putting themselves in danger (my bait compartment lid is definitely closed). I tried providing this information to Victor Pest (the manufacturer) but all I received was a promotion advising me of their latest products.

I suspect I would have an issue with the bate. For some reason the rats here simply don't go near peanut butter or nutella or the like (and I have trail-cam footage showing them walking past blobs of the stuff) - they can only really be enticed by a nice line of cat treats or dry cat food into a trap.
@SmartPennyPincher
@SmartPennyPincher 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. I wonder if they would go for a piece of cat food stuck to peanut butter. If so you might be able to get it to stick in the bait holder.
@ColinMill1
@ColinMill1 3 жыл бұрын
@@SmartPennyPincher Yes, that would be interesting. I have heard of people using hot-melt glue to hold bate to the hooks of conventional traps so that might be worth a try. I am having a bit of a go at making a zapper type trap using an Arduino to do the sensing and to drive the mosfet/transformer combo for the output. I'm gradually improving the triggering by having it monitor the steady leakage between the plates and trigger only on a sudden rise in current due to a mouse or rat bridging them (with a back-up idea to add a passive infra-red sensor that inhibits triggering until something warm is in the trap). Development is on hold as I'm getting some success at last with a simple mechanical cage trap by attaching treats to the trigger hook by fine threads (by drilling a 1mm hole in the treats and tying the threads in a loop just long enough for the treat to sit on the floor of the trap). I'm hoping that if I can't work out which of the treats triggers the trap them just maybe the rat won't figure it out either 8-)=

@@SmartPennyPincher I'm fed up with the 'challenge'. I have one rat left that is a real hard case, he's more cunning than Alcibiades. NOTHING has worked with him, every kind of trap you can name, every kind of bait I can think of, glue strips, live catch cages, bait blocks. This rodent has actually dropped stale bread chunks (God knows where he got it, because we've place all food in the fridge or sealed in plastic tubs) into a rat poison tray without touching so much as a morsel of the poison tablets-he seemed to be mocking me saying 'No, I won't eat your poison, but I'll share my stale bread with YOU!'. I've acquired great respect for him, and if he didn't chew up my floor molding and take up residence behind my dishwasher-and drop turds of course-I'd consider a more elegant way of introducing him to the great outdoors. He lost a few of his comrades to my Baking Soda mix, but he's too smart to fall for it himself-he walks right past the bowls of mix. This has become personal, it's me or him. Mano a Rato.

I caught one rat the first night. The bait was still in there. Next day, no rat. Checked the bait and it was gone. I think the rat put his paw through the holes on the back and got it. I had a metal canister just a little bigger than the trap. Slid the bait end inside the can so the rat couldn't mess with the back of the trap. Caught another one the next night.

I think Victor suggest bating the trap with peanut butter. but instead of using your finger, use a spoon or other object to place the bait in the bait cup. This way it will not leave any human scent to alarm the rat or mouse ?? also I use a disinfecting wipe to clean the metal plates to also remove and human scent and to keep the interior sanitary after a rat kill. ANother staisfied customer here. I will temper my remarks by adding some advice to trhiose who are not happy with this trap: This is a cheap product. It is on the level of any number of inexpensive toys and other products that use battery current contacts to work. Make sure that you hear the faint buzz that tells you the unit is armed. The first two days I didn't catch anything, but the peanut butter was gone. I had set the trap in a noisy environment and didn't notice that the buzz did NOT occur. It is not loud. So, I slid off the covver and moved the three contact prongs a little bit to make sure they had spring tension, then reassembled the unit. Bingo - a mouse everyday so far.

I have little doubt it works on mice, most every kind of trap does. But rats are not mice, they are far more cunning and cautious. I baited mine properly and saw the light-heard the buzz. Nothing entered the trap or touched the bait, NADA. Very disappointed, but I'll try bacon on somebody else's recommendation.

Some people say that rats will avoid the trap if they detect a human smell. And by wearing gloves, our human smell will not get onto the trap and bait and it might lure rats into the traps sooner. I got a rat in 3 days, I think it was because I used gloves before touching the trap and bait, so the rats were not scared to go into the trap because they couldn’t smell me. It is worth a try.

There is a flat bar on the top of the trap that is slanted towards the bait. This makes it easy for a rat to move forward but resists movement in reverse. You can certainly shake them out by not taking off the top, but it's easier to remove it. As far as the holes, I have not seen very much stealing of the bait.
