In a beautiful retrospect of Olympic moments, Victor Le Masne's "Higher" provided a stunning soundtrack to a collection of memories, fusing French touch and four-to-the-floor drums with anthemic strings reminiscent of 70s film scores. It is also grounded in the nostalgic sound of retro sports TV - a genre unto itself.
The composition is not available yet; the first appearance of the essense of this track was a teaser when Le Masne’s keystone Olympic composition "Parade" was revealed in May as the Olympic torch arrived in Marseille aboard a vast ship.
I along with many others searched for the opening ceremony version (look up Reddit and Twitter). The original version appears online in a few places and there is one on KZbin made from an audio rip that has commentary and announcers voices filtered out.
The version I created is from Australia's Stan Sport broadcast that was in 4K and on 5.1 surround sound. I downloaded the video and extractd the audio. Since announcements and commenattors were on separate tracks, I was able to extract the audio cleanly. The audio does have a very slight crowd noise mixed in, hardly noticeable in the club and radio mixes. It is slightly more present in the original, espcially in quieter moments of the track; that said, it is barely worth mentioning and does not distract from the main music itself. I did amplify the track a bit but added no filters to the original or the radio version. I used Adobe Audition 2023.
I left the original version that accompanies the telecast where the galloping horsewoman launches up the Seine, symbolizing the entire route of the world's delegations, and embodying all the values of Olympism.
I created a short "radio" version of the main horns and the 4 on the floor drume beat as a separate track.
I created another "video" version with the radio mix with the original retrsopect portion of the video. All the jump cuts and edits are from the original video; the only change I made was creating an intro from the years countdown and the Eiffel Tower. I did this as the retrospect highlights did not span the entire length of the song by about 20 seconds so I filled in the small gap. I think it worked. Unfortunately, KZbin made a copyright claim on it and no matter how many video edits to evade the copyright claim the strike was persistant. Fortunately, you can view it on Tik tok with the link below but it is not listed publicly. Consider it our secret.
Lasty, I created a "club" version that extends the radio version by a few minutes. I didn't go all crazy and try to make a remix, I just wanted a longer version of it but I did add a few filter effects just to give it a little more dynamism towards the end.
Edit: After much discussion and fanfare, it appears the corret title to the track is "Higher". As with many themes, "Parade" forms as the basis for this track but is not considered a remix but a separate track unto itself. I have changed the name as needed. Thanks to everyone who helped!
I hope y'all enjoy!
