Celine Dion singing beneath the rings on the Eiffel Tower is hands down the most iconic thing I’ve ever seen in an opening ceremony. What an amazing performance too, especially when you consider her recent health troubles. It was spine tingling. It’ll always be my defining memory of Paris 2024. I can’t imagine how any other city will be able to top it.

The contrast between Paris and the other games is striking. Fencing at the Grand Palais, beach volleyball under the Eiffel Tower, archery at Les Invalides, horse riding at Versailles, never has a city been such a perfect stage for sport. The French atmosphere was there. The stadiums were packed. We Danced, we vibrated. The crowds broke into spontaneous renditions of La Marseillaise on any pretext, including during the night time ascent of the Olympic cauldron into the sky. France arrived at the Games shaken by two unexpected rounds of parliamentary elections that ended in a political stalemate. Surprisingly, the Games were a complete success, in a divided France that managed to unite for the duration of the Games. « La France ne peut être la France sans la grandeur. »

When I started watching, I didn't expect much, but I ended up watching the whole thing! I loved the clever blend of classic French culture and historical references with modern French pop culture. Many parts were very emotional, like the statues of French women who made their mark on history. And for those saying there were no French performers, you're wrong, the majority of the performers were French. Aya Nakamura, Gojira, Marina Viotti, Axelle Saint-Cirel, Juliette Armanet, Philippe Katerine, Rim'K etc... People are hating because of a single scene, and simply because it's "trendy" to hate on anything French...

Exactly there were 20-30 woke minutes that the French themselves condemn, out of 240 minutes and they are going to do a complete bashing because they hate France, this bad buzz was orchestrated by the English and the Russians mainly because they organized London 2012 and that everything that can follow is null in their eyes and the Russians not having been invited because of the geopolitical situation, they managed so that the small dysfunctions take a considerable place.

Sadly, when we see the first few minutes of the closing ceremony, we can only imaging how stunning would have been this opening ceremony with a sunny weather 😢😢 Don't get me wrong, it was fantastic, but Paris really shines at sunset.
@riceball2wakame9353 ай бұрын
Opening ceremonies on sunny days are commonplace and boring. This time, the theme was earth colors, with water, fire, wind, earth, green plants, metal, and grandeur, and the delicate and careful design and setup, dance and performance evoked the feeling of nature. We can surmise that the themes were earth, nature and people, space + modern times. So it seems to have been designed and engineered to work well both on sunny and cloudy days. In fact, this time, rain created a better atmosphere than sunny weather, and many people felt nostalgic.
@riceball2wakame9353 ай бұрын
In an interview, he said that the athletes felt lonely because the last Tokyo Games were held without spectators, the spotlight was on the torch relay and the opening ceremony, and the Olympics were used and abused to promote a cult. Because Japan treated its athletes so badly, it can be assumed that France took inspiration from that and dimmed the lights at the opening and closing ceremonies to put the spotlight on the athletes. In fact, all the events were held on a grand scale under clear skies and in bright venues, and the athletes were smiling and overjoyed.

We have never seen such an amount of rain at the end of July. More 25-30 mm of rain in less than 3 hours 🤯😂 Well, that is history now 😅
@Airlink_SG3 ай бұрын
It's totally true, it will be an eternal regret, there has never been a rainy July 26 in Paris for 15 years !!!!!! And on the weather map of Europe, Paris was the only place where it rained !!!! (it rained on July 27 and then during the day, glorious weather until the end of the Olympics for 2 weeks) I don't know if we realize 🤣The organizers couldn't believe it, it had to fall that day, it's really sad even if sometimes it added a certain dimension like the dance of the chansigneur (hard of hearing) in front of the light show of the Eiffel Tower but 3 quarters of the time it prevented a lot of things, for example, the parade of the Paris firefighters or the BMX show in front of the parade of the athletes (canceled because the ramps were so slippery, we can see it in the images, they are at a standstill)

47:10 This performance gave me chills. The way they depicted the painting "Liberty Guiding the People" made by Eugène Delacroix and all that on the song "À la volonté du peuple" from Les Misérables was incredible. The camera movements, the actors' performance, and the way the Assassin's Creed guy introduced the scene were really cool. They represented French culture really well. I don't know if you noticed but at 47:53, they put the Conciergerie in the background to then make a transition with the next performance of Gojira which took place there (48:55).

Les franciliens vivent habituellement dans une zone tempéré, les épisodes de canicule sont plus rare et concentrés à la même période. La climatisation n’est donc pas dans nos habitudes. Many cool moments but the passage on the bridge is my favourite. Eurodance tracks + some iconic French pop like Mylene Farmer to accompany very varied dancers including 2 drag queens a ballet dancer a couple doing folkloric dance a disabled break dancer etc plus all the dancers on the boat... ?!! This was so much fun and energy! And the title of the tableau rightfully said "united in diversity". The fact that many people saw something wrong with it (and I've seen them use words like "perverted") is disheartening and only reflects the darkness of their own heart.

everything is said. Watching the replay, I find that from the "festivity" table, the ceremony shifts into something unreal: nightfall, the rain, this passage with the dancers, not to mention everything that will follow ( the rider, the flame, Celine Dion...). magic! a new milestone in pop culture!

I have rewatched the entire ceremony. Something I hadn’t noticed live was how remarkably smooth the transitions between the different sections were, despite spanning an entire city. For instance, the way they seamlessly moved between the various representations and the athlete presentations was impressive. The main issue, however, was the way the IOC filmed the event overall, as if they were somewhat overwhelmed. I hope that, at some point, they will release a remastered version of the ceremony, incorporating footage that wasn’t included initially and using different camera angles

OBS, which is appointed by the IOC was not ready for the challenge and missed some very important images or performances (how is it possible to miss the Patrouille de France ✈️ over Paris ?) I think that the directors and cameramen in France covering the Tour of France or all the other ceremonies would have done a better job. Hope Thomas Joly will release a Director’s cut including the images of everything that was not on TV.

That Gojira/Marina Viotti performance at Conciergerie was epic. The perfect way to start a French Olympics - embrace the history involving one of France's most famous people (Marie Antoinette) and the very building that she was condemned to death in and pair the unlikely marriage of metal and opera with one of France's best bands: Gojira. Hats off to the geniuses that came up with this idea and to the performers that made it happen.

@@Yep6803Are you aware that out of 250 triathlon and marathon freestyle athletes, there was only one problem ? and it is impossible to make the connection with the Seine since the fact of having been affected by the e-coli bacteria was a pure lie. The Belgian athlete denied it. The English and Russians during these Olympic Games managed to exercise dishonest bashing from start to finish. As luck would have it, they deliberately complained about the food, about everything. The English who are going to give us lessons on food, seriously ??? It has been proven that the success of self-service was such that there was a shortage and the English said anything behind "the athletes are dying of hunger". Go and find pictures of the Olympic village and dare to say that they were in poor conditions. And for the beds, find out about the conditions in Tokyo or Rio. In short, with these Olympic Games, even if there were record sales, atmosphere, audience, magnificent sites, we understood, the English always found things to complain about, having organized London 2012. But you must not forget the British who say "France should never have been hosts" that the revival of the Olympic Games is thanks to France in the 19th century, without Baron Pierre de Coubertin and his team, they would not have seen the light of day again in 1896 in Greece then in 1900 in Paris.

@@Yep6803And you say loss of money but you listen too much to the stupidities on social networks. These are the cheapest Olympics in a very long time. 8 billion spent including 1.5 for the Seine which will be swimmable in the long term for the French, this is only the beginning. How much spent in China? 35 billion and Rio 30 billion which is struggling today to recover.

@@Yep6803 The points of controversy are the 30 minutes woke of the opening ceremony. The triathlon in the Seine while the day before it was raining (the organizers did not want to lose face), for the freestyle marathon on the other hand the weather was nice every day before, I was there and I have never seen the water of the Seine so beautiful in my life. And the Olympic village, everything was not perfect. On these 3 aspects there are things to say, we are the first to admit it in France. Now on an 18-day event, painting a black picture despite 90% of positive things, it is just abuse. It's never been perfect anywhere. We could see it on the networks, all the fake news always came from the English or Australian media or athletes. (London 2012, Brisbane 2032) We understood after a while. Nothing about the visitors delighted in 99.9% of cases, the perfect transport, the perfect organization, the incredibly beautiful sites (never seen before, go compare with London or Rio, we'll laugh), the decibel record in all the arenas, the show offered before and during the competitions like at the swimming pool or for athletics, the 100m, go see on the networks. No on the English side, we only talked about negative things, even the Belgian athlete denied having fallen ill but in England we continued to maintain this information. Record number of tickets sold (9.5 million, record previously held by China with 8.3 million) Even in the mornings for athletics, the stadium was full, something never seen before.

One of the signs of the quality of a work of art is its resistance to being interpreted in a unique way. If the aesthetic experience is the meeting between three parties, namely the work, its author and the public, then a condition of this meeting is a confidence in "this other"s sincerity, at the risk of making the experience impossible. The question then arises of a work of art considered offensive despite the denials of its author. This is the difficulty inherent in any human relationship and at the same time it is what gives it all its meaning: an authentic relationship requires a step into the unknown, an elementary trust in other's word. Do not stop at what separates. Works of art are sometimes the place where divisions are most visible, they can also allow us to practice an authentic encounter.
